Analysis of Students:
Students of Senior One may find it difficult to find out the four hard choices and draw conclusions. So with the help of team work, students may eventually have a better understanding of the four hard choices and reach their conclusions.
Analysis of Teaching Materials:
The teaching materials are a biography, which tells us about Lin Qiaozhi’s life in a chronological sequence, focusing on the choices she faced in life. All the choices made by Lin Qiaozhi reflect her firm faith, good heart, high professional responsibility and devoted spirit.
Teaching Aims:
Cultural awareness: Learn about Lin’s life choices. Get students to learn from great people, knowing their similar qualities that make them great.
Thinking quality: Encourage students to have their own judgment and reach their own conclusion.
Language ability: Get students to learn some words and expressions.
Learning ability: Develop students’ reading abilities.
Teaching Important and Difficult Points:
1.Help students to have a better understanding of Lin’s life choices.
2.Enable students to have their own judgments and reach their own conclusion.
Teaching Methods:
Explanation, discussion, cooperative learning, autonomic learning.
Teaching Aids: PPT, blackboard and multimedia equipment
Teaching Procedures:
Activity 1 Guessing game
Show the students four pictures of famous people and ask them to match the pictures with the introductions below.
Guide the students to think about the similarities among them.
Lead in another great person of this reading passage-Dr. Lin Qiaozhi.
Activity 2 Analyzing the structure of the passage
Predict the main idea of the passage according to the title and pictures.
Give 3 minutes to students to finish the following three questions, including the purpose of the passage, how to develop the passage and how to divide the passage.
Complete the main idea of each part by finding out the words which appear most frequently.
Activity 3 Learning more information about Lin’s life
Get students to fill in the blanks to know more about Lin’s life
Ask some students to answer the questions.
Activity 4 Learning about Lin’s hard choices
Get the students to fill in the form to learn about the four hard choices, including the choices Lin chose, the difficulties Lin faced and the results of the choices.
Get students to discuss their answers with teammates.
Ask three students to stick their answers to the blackboard and check the answers.
Ask three students to retell Lin’s hard choices in a sentence.
Activity 5 Drawing conclusions
Help students to sum up Lin Qiaozhi’s life choices and draw a conclusion.

2.(Optional)What would Lin Qiaozhi's life have been if she had made another choice Please rewrite her life in a short paragraph.
