I.语言点精讲
1. Who gives their opinions about the problem
opinion是名词,意为“意见;想法;看法”,多与介词 of, on 或about连用,既可用作可数名词,也可用作不可数名词;常用于短语:in one's opinion.... 意为“在某人看来”。
如:I can't agree with your opinion in this respect. 在这方面,我不赞同你的意见。
What's your opinion about this trip 你对这次旅行有什么看法?
2.Maybe I could cut out a few of their activities,but I believe these activities are important for my children’s future.
cut out是动词短语,意为“删除;删去”,
cut sth out相当于stop doing。
如:I cut out the paragraph in this article.我删除了这篇文章的一个段落。
In some families,competiton starts very young and continues until the kids get older.
continue to do sth是持续做完一件事再做别的事; continue doing sth是指做一件事中断后再继续做这件事。
如:After finishing my homework ,I continue to help my mother with housework.
写完作业后帮妈妈做家务。
After finishing my homework ,I continue helping my mother with housework.
(原来在帮妈妈做家务)写完作业后继续帮妈妈做家务。
And they are always comparing them with other children. 他们总是将他们和其他的孩子比较。
(1)compare是动词,意为“比较”。
如:I compared the copy with the original, but there was not much difference. 我比较了复印件和原件,但是差别不是很大。
(2)compare...with...意为“比较;对比”。
如:Compare this new TV set with the old one, you will see which is better.将这台新电视机与旧电视机一比,你就会看出哪一台更好一些。
And they are always comparing them with other children.
be always doing sth. 意为“总是做某事”
always与进行时连用时,常表达说话人的某
种情绪,如赞扬、不满、责备等。
他老是向父母要钱。He was always asking his parents for money.
She is always playing her mobile phone. 她总是玩手机。
【特别提醒】be always doing sth. 不强调动作正在进行。
Maybe I could cut out a few of their activities,but …
此处cut out 是一个短语动词,表示“删除;剪下”或是“剪下;停止;戒除;突然熄火”等。代词作宾语时,只能放在cut与out之间。再如:
Don’t cut your parents out of your lives. 不要把父母从你的生活中赶出去。
If you cut out the drinking, you’d feel much healthier. 如果你戒酒,就会觉得身体好很多。
The comma is unnecessary. Please cut it out.

People shouldn’t push their kids so hard.人们不该对自己的孩子逼得太紧。
动词push 有“推;推动”的意思,
如:Don’t push this door, you have to pull it open.别推这扇门,你得把它拉开才行。
push在此作动词,意为“鞭策;督促”。
push sb. to do sth. 意为“督促某人做某事。
本单元中,push 表示“ 使(某人)努力;鞭策;督促”,其后宾语可以是别人或自己。
The math teacher really pushes his students. That’s why they don’t like him that much. 那位数学老师确实对学生鞭策过多了,这就是他们不那么喜欢他的原因。
She thanks her parents for pushing her to study.
push 还可意为“推动”,其反义词是pull“拉”。
Dr. Alice Green says all these activities can cause a lot of stress for children.
cause v. 造成;引起
cause作及物动词,常用结构:
cause sb. sth.=cause sth. for sb. 给某人带来某事(多指麻烦)
cause sb. to do sth. 导致某人做某事
She is always causing her parents trouble.
= She is always causing trouble for her parents.

Handshakes, kisses, hugging…people all over the world greet each other in different ways. Because of the outbreak of COVID-19, people are changing how they greet each other to stop the virus from spreading(传播). They have come up with some good ways to say hello.
France
French people love to kiss on the cheek, even between people who have only just met. As kissing and handshaking may spread the virus, a French expert says simply looking into a person's eyes is good enough as a greeting.
Australia
