The Analysis of Teaching Materials
This teaching content is Lesson7, Unit2 of Hebei Education Press Primary English Book. It’s the beginning of the second unit: My Country and English Speaking Countries. It paves the way for the next lesson. This lesson mainly talk about the map of China and the language, the capital city, the flag and the famous places of China. The teaching content is nearly to students’ life and it can cultivate the ability to use language. It can also motivate the emotion of patriotism.
The Analysis of Students
The students in grade 5 are very active, curious and interested in new things. They have some basic English background knowledge and know a few about China. So I’ll attach importance to communicate with students and provide them the chances of using language.

Step1: Warming-up& Leading in

(Design Purpose: Arouse students’ interest and draw their attention. Use the puzzle game to lead in the new topic.)
Step2: Presentation
1. Basic information about China
a) What’s this on blackboard (map)
Who is he (show the picture of Li Ming.)
Where does he live
Ask one student: Where do you live
Summary: We live in China.
(Design Purpose: To learn the map of China and know that we live in China by using Li Ming.)
b) Listen to the tape and answer the questions.

What’s the capital city of China
(Design Purpose: To learn the language and the capital city of China and practice their learning skills )
c) What’s this (Show the flag of China.)
What color is it What does it have
Summary: This is the flag of China. It’s red. It has five yellow stars.
(Design Purpose: To learn the flag of China by using the object.)
2. The famous places
a) Play the video about China.
b) Introduce Tienanmen Square, the Palace Museum and the Great Wall.
(Design Purpose: To learn the important sites of China and feel the beauty of China.The video can draw students’ attention.)
Step3: Consolidation& Improvement
1. Match the pictures and the name of the famous places on blackboard.
2. Complete the quiz on papers.
3. Introduce other famous things in China.
(Design Purpose: The matching activity is aim to remember the name of the famous places. The quiz is to consolidate the knowledge of this lesson. The introduction of other famous things in China is the improvement of the knowledge and to prepare for the next part.)
Step4: Group Work---- Little Tour Guide
Introduce China to foreigners
Talk in groups and show in class.
(Design Purpose: Students introduce China by themselves through using the knowledge of the lesson, it can enhance their ability of language application and cooperative leaning.)
Step5: Summary
Make a conclusion of the lesson based on the blackboard design.

Step6: Homework
1. Search for other famous places about China through the internet.
2. Try to introduce them in English.
