They are the sort of friends who are so close they trust each other with their lives. If one falls, the other is there to catch him.
They are Wellman, whose legs were permanently injured nine years ago in a rockclimbing accident, and Corbett,an experienced rock climber.Together, they climed up Half Dome, the famous 2,000foot rock in the Yosemite National Park, through one of the most difficult routes( 路线).
During the climb,Corbett took the lead, hit in the metal spikes(尖状物)that guided the ropes and climbed up.Then, after Wellman pulled himself up the rope.Corbett went down to remove the spikes and climbed up again. This process was repeated time and again, inch by inch, for 13 days.
Wellman's job was not easy either. He got himself up the rope through upper body strength alone. In all,Wellman figured that he had done 5,000 pullups up the rope on the climb.
However, when the two men first met, they never talked about climbing.“He knew that was how I got injured.” Wellman said.Until one day Wellman decided that he wanted to climb again and they started training.
Their climb of Half Dome was not all smooth. At one point, pieces of rock gave way,and Corbett dropped down quickly.Wellman locked their rope in place, stopping the fall at 20 feet. His quick action probably saved his friend's life.

Many years ago, when I was fresh out of school and working in Denver, I was driving to my parents' home in Missouri for Christmas.I stopped at a gas station about 50 miles from Oklahoma City, where I was planning to stop and visit a friend. While I was standing in line at the cash register(收款台) ,I said hello to an older couple who were also paying for gas.
I took_off,_but had gone only a few miles when black smoke poured from the back of my car.I stopped and wondered what I should do.A car pulled up behind me.It was the couple who I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend's.We chatted on the way into the city, and when I get out of the car, the husband gave me his business card.
I wrote him and his wife a thankyou note for helping me.Soon afterward, I received a Christmas present from them.Their note that came with it said that helping me had made their holidays meaningful.

“Just how friendly is Friendly Ford?” I asked and explained my trouble. They quickly drove a pickup truck to my car and started it.They would accept no payment;so when I got home;I wrote them a note to say thanks, I received a letter back from one of the salesmen. Having finished her homework,Ma Li wants some music for relaxation. As usual, she starts her computer and goes to baidu.com to download music files. But this time she is surprised when an announcement about protecting songs' copyright bursts onto the screen. The age of free music and movie downloads may have come to an end as Web companies like Baidu are accused of pirating copyright.Lawsuits have been filed against four websites offering free downloads. In September 2005,a Beijing court ordered Baidu to pay recording company Shanghai Push compensation for their losses.Baidu was also told to block the links to the pirated music on the website. This caused a heated discussion on Interact file sharing.

An ancient Egyptian mummy thought to be that of Pharaoh Ramses 1 has returned home after more than 140 years in North American museums. The body was carried off the plane in Cairo in a box draped in Egypt's flag.

I have safely arrived on the boat Pangaea. It's surprising that all of us get the chance to be the captain of it!This is the boat that Mike Horn once sailed to the South Pole(南极).
We stopped in Bluff, and set off to meet the Maoris(毛利人).
I thought at first that the Maoris were wild men living together and wearing animal fur.But they live just as we do,both with their clothes and food.
We came to a small wooden house with different patterns. Before entering,we were told to line up,men following women as an old woman stood in front of the house singing. You can tell that they haven't left all their traditions behind.
The old lady gave us an introduction to New Zealand, the Maoris and so on.
Then came the most interesting part, sharing the Maoris' songs and dances.Boys learnt how to dance the Haka and for girls it's the Uka.While the Maoris performed the songs,I enjoyed rocking my body and opening and closing my eyes from time to time.
What was more surprising was that after the show,an old Maori lady came to tell me that she had two granddaughters whose faces looked just like mine!
Yes,the first Maoris sailed to New Zealand from Asia, which might have a close relationship with Chinese people! No wonder I was so moved by the dances and songs the Maoris have!It is so heartwarming to touch a culture that is so far away, but which you can be related to so closely.
I won the onceinalifetime chance after seeing a piece of short world news in 21st Century Teens last October. In January,I joined a 10day training camp. Now I am on a 15day trip to the Southern Island of New Zealand with eight teenagers from around the world.

Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later.Sit where you can see and hear well.Take notes to help you remember what the teacher says.
Go over your notes as soon as you can after class.Review important points mentioned in class as well as points you remain uncertain about. If you review your notes and textbooks regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer.Regular review leads to improved performance on test.
The aim of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't worry too much about a single test.Tests provide grades, but they also let you know what you need to spend more time studying.
