Choosing the right career becomes one of the most important decisions of an individual's life.
It used to be that one followed in the footsteps of their father or grandfather or took over the family business when it came to making a career choice. These days, a career path can start anywhere and then veer off into something totally different.

He spent 10 hours a day on the roller coaster. Rodriguez tried to keep himself busy during the rides on the big roller coaster in a southwestern town in Germany. “I read the newspapers...I listen to music on my walkman, I have my cellphone, so I try to talk to people and message people during the day,” he said. Although the 42-year-old man said he felt sick on the first few days, he said he soon got over the problem. “My face hurts sharply and I have a little backache, but I am good.” The “Expedition GeForce” is one of the world’s biggest roller coasters. Who would have thought that millions of people would buy a product containing living insects?A businessman named Milton Levine did. He created the Uncle Milton Ant Farm more than half a century ago. Today, grandchildren of the first ant colony owners are watching ants working hard on the farm.Milton Levine was not trained in the study of insects, also known as entomology. But he knew a lot about ants, and he designed an appealing way to share his knowledge.
Mr. Levine began his career as a maker of unusual toys after World War Ⅱ. He had returned to his birthplace in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after serving in the United States military. He got the idea for his future career from a business newsletter, which suggested that the best chances for jobs at the time were in toys. He decided to make toys. They understood that American society was about to change. The huge population increase known as the Baby Boom was beginning. There would be a huge demand for children's toys.
One day, he saw ants parading around a swimming pool. The sight made Mr. Levine remember how much he had liked watching ants as a boy on his uncle's farm. Those thoughts gave him the idea for the Uncle Milton Ant Farm.
Milton Levine developed a narrow, green plastic container. The top looked like a farm, showing a farmhouse, a barn, a bridge and a windmill (风车). Under those images was a divider that separated the ants' underground and above-ground areas.Under that was the sand where people could watch the ants digging passageways.
The first Uncle Milton Ant Farms were an immediate success. They were sold in 1956.Two years later, two million of the educational toys had been sold.
Through the years the toys continued to attract ant-watchers. People buy Uncle Milton Ant Farms from stores and order from websites. During his life, Mr. Levine saw the sale of more than twenty million of his ant colonies.
The Uncle Milton Ant Farm tells far more than how to care for the ants. For example, people receiving an Uncle Milton Ant Farm learn that the little insects are strong. Some can carry loads fifty times heavier than they are. A writer remembers owning an Uncle Milton Ant Farm when he was about five years old.He says he became very good at numbers by counting the ants.
39.Which of the following words can best describe Milton Levine?

The 100-kilogram blue solar car invented by 10 students at Southwest University's College of Engineering and Technology in Chongqing has a top with four solar panels that charge the battery that powers the auto. Its speed is between 30~40 kilometers per hour and when fully powered the car can be driven as far as 50 kilometers.“The car is easy to drive. A person without any driving experiences could learn to use it in several minutes. It fits for campus and the golf course,”said He Daijie, the leader of the invention team and a senior at the college. Or if one prefers it can be turned into moped scooter (电动助力车), he said.
Four students at Shenyang University of Technology in Liaoning Province invented a door light powered by electrical energy produced by opening and closing a door. When people open or close a door, the door produces mechanical energy that could be turned into electrical energy. After numerous tests for several months, the students fixed a joint lever above the door that connects the door and a speeding gear case to drive a generator attached to the door and send energy to storage cells. The storage cells provide electrical energy for the light.
A college student's dorm door is opened and closed about 60~100 times a day, which could produce 160~280 milliamps of electrical energy. It takes 160 milliamps to keep a light working for at least 10 hours, said Xia Yingbiao, one of the invention team members and a mechanical designer and manufacturing and automation junior. If these lights were used with the invention at the entrances in Shenyang schools, about 700,000 kilowatt hours a year would be saved, the team said. The university is applying patents for the invention.
43. Where is the first invention mainly designed to use?
A.On the traffic roads. B.In parks and gardens.
C.On campus and the golf course. D.In kindergartens.
44.The car is charged ________.
A.with solar panels at the solar station B.with solar panels on its top
C.through the wires at public places D.through the wires at home
45.Where does the power of door light come from?
A.Electricity through wires.
B.Mechanical energy by opening and closing the door.
C.Sun panels on the building top.
D.Batteries charged before being used.
46.From the two inventions, we can see that ________.
A.students could design for the future
B.inventions are not so difficult
C.these inventions are valuable but not practical
D.inventions can't lack knowledge and money

As nanny (保姆), cook, cleaner, shopper, driver, and gardener, she has one of the most demanding jobs in Britain today. And paying someone else to do the chores (家务活) which take the average housewife 71 hours a week would cost ?349.
At over ?18,000 a year that’s more than the earnings of 70 percent of the population, including train drivers, firemen, prison officers, and social worker. Looking after a baby less than a year old takes a housewife into a even higher pay league. According to a study, she earns ?457 a week – at nearly ?24,000 a year, the same as teachers, engineers, and chemists.
Researchers put a price on each chore, then tried to find out how long the average person takes doing them. They found housewives spend an average 70.7 hours a week on housework – with looking after the children (17.9hours) and cooking and cleaning (12.9 hours each) the most time-consuming (费时).
A wife with a part-time job still works and average of 59 hours a week at home. Those in full-time employment put in longer hours at home than in the workplace. The good news is that these hours sharply as children get older. While the average mother with child under one puts in 90 hours weekly, the figure drops to 80 hours from one to four and to 66 hours from five to ten.
Mother-of-four Karen Williams from London said, “Paying the housewives may not be practical, but the government should recognize the value of housework, perhaps through the tax. Running a house takes a lot of time and most husbands don’t understand this. For example, my husband only puts a shelf up now and again. He never cleans the kitchen – that’s the real test.”
47. Who earns most according to the text?
A. A social worker. B. A fireman.
C. A gardener. D. A teacher.
48. We learn from the text that looking after children ______.
A. takes more time than doing any other housework
B. means more duties than being a teacher
C. requires the mother to be well-educated
D. prevents the mother from working outside
49. according to the text, a housewife with a baby less than one year old may work _____.
A. 66 hours a week B. 71 hours a week
C. 80 hours a week D. 90 hours a week
50. By mentioning her husband, Karen Williams wants to show that ______.
A. housework is no easy job
B. her husband has no time to clean the kitchen
C. a housewife needs to be paid for cleaning
D. the kitchen is hard to clean

Women make better drivers than men for many reasons. Why is that? Wouldn't you think that competing at who has better driving abilities is pointless? If you ask me, I'd like to say, men know that women are better drivers but do not have the courage to admit the truth.
Unlike men, women stop for directions when they have no idea where they are going. Women don't drive around for hours pointlessly wasting a tank of gas only to find themselves heading in the wrong direction. Have you ever been in a car with a man who is lost? He tells you to shut up when you begin to open your mouth. And every five minutes or so he takes a turn going forty-five miles per hour only to find out he's made another wrong turn.
Speeding is what men do best on the road. Traffic is not a race. There is a reason why men get more speeding tickets than women. Not because women trick to get out of tickets but only because they don't speed. Women don't risk putting their own lives and the lives of others in danger. In other words ,they have more responsibility for life.
My largest issue with male drivers is how a majority of them drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hand doing only God knows what. The seat is backed as far as possible. They're totally lost in loud music beyond a necessary level. You don't ever see women driving like that.
I feel that the above evidence more than proves my points that women are queens of the road. Oh ,men, if you want to continue criticizing women for being bad drivers, bring it on. We know you lack confidence, or else you wouldn't be wasting your valuable time making jokes about the ones you may choose to spend the rest of your days with.
56. Who does the author think are the better drivers? (no more than 1 word)
57. When will women drivers stop to ask for help? (no more than 9 words)
58. Why do men get more speeding tickets? (no more than 3 words)
59. What quality do women drivers have when it comes to safety? (no more than 3 words)

One possible version:
Dear John,
I am extremely sorry to tell you that I am unable to go to your party this Sunday. It is very kind of you to invite me to your house and I really look forward to
going to your party and sharing your happy experiences abroad. Much to my regret, I
will be absent from your party owing to the fact that the College Entrance Exam is
just around the corner, for which I am now really busy preparing. What’s worse, I
have caught a bad cold lately and I am really not myself.
Anyway, we will have many more chances to get together. Shall we make it after the Exam? I am truly sorry. I hope you will forgive me and accept my sincere apology.
I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
