文本分析:本节课属于项目式学习。通过教材范例总结“读书报告”涵盖的基本要素,做读书报告的框架,让学生利用已有的名人自传或传记类书籍,或利用网络资源寻找到要阅读的名人自传或传记,归纳、总结得出自己的读书报告的框架,做成PPT或海报,然后将PPT或海报转换成读书报告,最后让学生在小组内做报告,推选优秀的读书报告在全班分享。

教学过程
Step Ⅰ 学习理解
活动一:感知与注意
Ask students to work in groups of four and discuss these questions.
·Have you ever read a biography or an autobiography of a great person? Would you recommend this book? Why or why not?
·Which great person would you like to read more about?
·Where can you find recommendations for good biographies or autobiographies?
【设计意图】在课前,通过小组合作,让学生讨论他们曾经读过的名人传记,谈论他们喜欢的名人,并且向小组成员推荐自己喜欢的传记,这个过程能够激发学生对本课主题的认识。
活动二:获取框架
Ask students to read the examples of the three book reports. Find out the outline of making a book report.
Suggested answers: The name of the book:Cao Xueqin Biography The author:Li jianshu The time:2009 The version:Chinese edition The content:the introduction of Cao Xueqin and his masterpiece The Dream of the Red Mansions. 【设计意图】通过阅读三本书的读书报告,学生总结出人物传记类读书报告的内容要点和结构,形成对人物传记类读书报告新的认识,为接下来撰写读书报告奠定基础。
Step Ⅱ 应用实践
活动三:呈现报告
1.Each student prepares a book report.
Ask students to read the books they find,and have them decide one book to report. Ask students to keep these points in mind:
·Use the examples above to help you.
·Write about how the book makes you feel or think about that person.
·Write about your overall feelings about the book and its quality.
·Give your opinion:Should others read this book as well? Why or why not?
2.Make an outline for the presentation.
Choose a picture for the book report and make the PPT or a poster for the presentation with the outline of the book report just like the examples we did for Cao Xueqin Biography,The Story of My Life and Steve Jobs. Prepare the PPT in the following aspects:the name of the book,the author of the book,the time the book was first published,the content of the book,the quality of the book,the assessments of the people,etc.
Suggested answer: The name of the book:Qian Xuesen—A Famous Chinese Scientist The author:Qi Shuying The time:2008 The version:Chinese edition The content:the story of Qian Xuesen’s early life,education,efforts he made to return to China and the contributions he made to China The quality:an inspiring story The assessments of Qian Xuesen:the Father of Chinese Scientific Manufacturing or King of Rocketry
【设计意图】通过阅读课本上提供的三份读书报告,给学生提供一个写作框架,然后学生可以选择已购书籍,或在互联网上获取自己喜欢的伟人传记或伟人自传的电子文本,通过阅读获取相关信息并做出自己的读书报告的框架,并用PPT的形式呈现。通过这个活动,不仅可以培养信息获取、归纳整合的能力,还可以鼓励学生进行积极有效的阅读,培养学生健康的审美情趣,形成善于思辨的思维品质。
Step Ⅲ 迁移创新
活动四:制作读书报告
1.Make up a group.
Choose 3 ~ 4 classmates to make up a new group. Know the basic information of the book reports of your group members,and prepare some questions for their book reports.
2.Learn the example.
Go through the examples on Page 11 with students and make sure they understand the way to make an outline for a book report.
3.With the outline you have already made for your own books to make book reports like the examples given in the textbook.
Suggested answer: An example of making a book report about Qian Xuesen—A Famous Chinese Scientist. Qian Xuesen—A Famous Chinese Scientist by Qi Shuying,2008(Chinese edition) The book tells a story about Qian Xuesen. He is a world famous scientist and patriot and he is known as the Father of Chinese Scientific Manufacturing or King of Rocketry. He was born in a rich family and worked hard in school and went to the US for further study. Later he overcame a lot of difficulties to return China and made great contributions to the development of Chinese scientific development. It is an inspiring story,so I recommend it to you.
【设计意思】让学生通过把根据在阅读中获取相关信息做出的PPT或海报用连贯的、简练的语言组织起来,然后完成读书报告。课前将做好的海报张贴在教室的墙面上,供其他学生分享,或者也可以将PPT传到国家基础教育资源网自己的空间上,与好友分享。然后,面向自己小组的同学做报告,推选优秀的读书报告全班分享。查找资料,阅读,获取读书报告信息,制作PPT和海报,再组织语言在自己的小组内展示报告,推选优秀的读书报告全班分享,这本身就是语言学习和创造的过程。通过这个活动,不仅可以引发学生的思考和对本单元话题的兴趣,而且可以激发学生用英语表达的愿望和信心,促进他们更好地学习。
