Step I 学习理解
活动一:英语释义
1.Ask students to write down the word that matches each definition.

【设计意图】现阶段,我国高中英语课堂上大多数还是采用中文释义的方式进行词汇教学,这使得学生在学习词汇的过程中严重受母语干扰,致使学习效率不高且在使用过程中频频犯错。将英文释义应用于词汇教学中,有助于提高学生对词汇内涵的理解,也有助于提高学生对英语句意的理解,帮助学生形成英语语感和语言意识,提高学生英语思维能力。
活动二:学习常见后缀
Introduce some common suffixes to students.
(1)-ion、-sion、-tion、-ation、-ition表示状态、结果、动作等,如:action、solution、conclusion、destruction、expression、correction。
(2)-ment表示物品和物质名称等,如:instrument、equipment、attachment。
(3)-able、-ible有“能……的,可以……的”等含义,如:movable、drinkable、changeable、visible。
(4)-ize、ise表示“变成;使……化”等含义,如:
modernize、mechanize、democratize。
【设计意图】让学生学习相关的词根知识,有助于学生正确应用单词的形式。
Step Ⅱ 应用实践
活动三:内化与运用
1.Guess and fill.
Ask students to read the sentences in Activity 2 on Page 4 and guess the meaning of the underlined words and then fill in the blanks with words that have the same roots.

1.Ask students to work in pairs and discuss how people can achieve success,using words and expressions they have learnt in this unit.
2.Check their answers:Teacher can collect as many answers as possible and write the answers on the blackboard.
