Much meaning can be conveyed, clearly, with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
Do you have such kind of experience In a bus you may look at a stranger, but not too long. And if he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.
The same is true in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down, to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry towards others’ staring at you that way. Eyes do speak, right
Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to move his gaze, his intentions are obvious, that is, he wishes to attract her attention, to make her understand that he admires her.
However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in a conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what he is speaking, and to tell him that he is attentive.
If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to dominate you, you will feel uncomfortable. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. Quite the contrary.
In fact, continuous eye contact is confined to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show affection that words cannot express.
Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationships between two people and the specific situations.
1. Which of the following behaviour is proper according to the passage
A. To the opposite sex, stare at him or her.
B. To a stranger, avoid looking at him or her.
C. In a conversation, look at the listener all the time.
D. Make eye contact depending on the relationships and different situations.
2. If two persons exchange eye contact gently for a long time, what is probably their relationship
A. Boss and employee.
B. Lovers.
C. Teacher and student.
D. Strangers.
3. What’s the best title of the passage
A. Don’t Stare at Others
B. Body Language Is Important
C. Eves Can Speak
D. Eye Contact Benefits You

Every day, in hundreds of ordinary situations, actions speak far louder than words. We talk with our mouth. but we communicate with our facial expressions, our tone of voice and our whole body.
1 When we can read what others are saying unconsciously, we can deal with things at work and at home before they become problems.
By understanding how to use body language, you can communicate more effectively. Here is how:
▲ 2 Throughout the day, notice details about the way you speak, gesture and move. When standing, keep your shoulders straight, your body open and your weight balanced on both feet.

▲ Use eye contact. Eye contact is very important in forming an impression of someone. You should have the ability to keep direct eye contact if you want to be taken seriously. But some people feel uncomfortable when it is too strong. 4

I awoke in the night to find my husband,Marty, gently rocking our baby son,Noah. I stood for a moment in the doorway, watching this amazing man with whom I was so blessed to share my life, lovingly stroking Noah’s fat pink cheeks in an effort to comfort him. I felt in my heart that something was seriously wrong with Noah. This was one of several nights Noah had been up,burning with a high fever.
Tears filled my eyes as I watched Marty move Noah’s little cheek up against his own chest,so that Noah could feel the vibrations of his voice. Noah is deaf. Learning to comfort him has brought on a whole new way of thinking for us. We relied on our voices, audio toys, and music to comfort our other children. But with Noah,we need to use touch, sight, the feel of our voices, and most importantly, the use of sign language to communicate emotions and a sense of comfort to him. Marty made the sign for“I love you”with his hand and I saw a tear roll down his cheek as he placed Noah’s tiny, weak hand on top of his.
We had taken Noah to the doctor more times than I could remember. It had been a week and a half and Noah’s fever remained very high and very dangerous, despite everything the doctor or we had tried. I knew in my soul the way only a mother can know, that Noah was in trouble.
I gently touched Marty’s shoulder and we looked into each other’s eyes with the same fear that Noah wasn’t getting any better. I offered to take over, but he shook his head. When morning finally came, we called the doctor and were told to bring him in again. We already knew that he would probably put Noah in hospital. So, we made arrangements for the other children, packed bags for all three of us, and tearfully drove to the doctor’s office once again. Our hearts filled with dread, we waited in a small room, different from the usual examining room we had been used to.

Yet they both still have the mind of children.
I like this one better than the older ones可知,这是最新(newest)的名称。故选C项。
My sons do have special needs可知,作者的儿子们的确有特殊的需求,这说明此表达更准确一些,故 accurate符合语境。
故选A项。
give up意为“放弃”;give in意为“投降;屈服”;give off意为“发出(气味等)”。
11. A 根据第二段第三句中的 they also have special gifts可知,此处指他有能力(ability)去笑和享受生活。故 ability正确。
I could have ever learnt可知,此处表示作者对比学到的东西和从孩子身上看到的东西,是孩子教会(taught)了作者更多关于如何去生活和如何去爱。故选D项。
14. A 根据空后的 with kindness and love可知,此处指用善良和爱对待(treat)彼此。
We are all children of the same world.

The result is that we won the game.
What he wants is a book.
keep doing…
7. on/upon 句意为:…… depend on/upon为固定搭配,意为“依赖;取决于”,故填on/upon。

Our doctor finally came in, saying that Noah had to be admitted to hospital right now. I was seized by fear and couldn’t stop crying. Marty reassured me that he felt in his heart that Noah would be okay. Noah was admitted and we were taken to his room right away. It was a torturous day, filled with horrible tests that made my son’s tiny little voice echo through the halls as he screamed over and over. Marty and I prayed together for Noah. With tears streaming down his face, Marty humbly asked the doctor to heal our son. My heart was filled with comfort and gratitude.
On the third morning, a resident doctor came over to tell us that Noah just had a severe cold. Noah would recover soon! Marty and I grinned at each other through our tears. By noon, Noah was already standing up in the hospital cot, bouncing like he was on a trampoline. Finally, early in the night, our own doctor came in and told us that it would be fine to take Noah home in three days. We couldn’t pack fast enough!
