[山东潍坊2020高二期中]Finding a suitable name for a baby is a big deal in China. When picking out a Chinese name, parents usually select two or three characters that have a carefully thought-out meaning, but when deciding on an English name, many of them struggle. That’s where Jessup and her company, Special Name, come in. In the last few years, Jessup has helped name 677,900 Chinese babies, and earned over $400,000 in the process, more than enough to pay her college fees.
Jessup came up with the idea for Special Name in 2015, after accompanying her father on a business trip to China. One of her dad’s business partners, a Mrs Wang, asked her to help choose an English name for her daughter. Jessup felt honoured and quickly realised the importance of choosing a proper name in Chinese culture.
The woman wanted people to be surprised by the things her daughter could achieve, so Jessup suggested the name “Eliza” after the character Eliza Doolittle from the play Pygmalion. Mrs Wang seemed delighted with Jessup’s choice. “If Mrs Wang needed this service, maybe other parents would as well,” Jessup thought.
After returning to the UK, Jessup borrowed 1,500 from her parents and paid a web designer to build a website. She then spent her free time filling up a database with around 4,000 English names, associating them with five major personality characteristics, like honesty and optimism.
In the beginning, Jessup offered the service for free to promote the website, but later, she started charging fees. The business is almost completely self-sufficient, requiring only a small team in China that manages technical operations. She updates the database each month, allowing her to focus full-time on studies.

[福建莆田七中2021高二月考]Culture shock has many stages. Each stage can only appear at certain times. Culture begins with the “honeymoon”. This is the period of time when we first arrive in which everything about the new culture is strange and exciting. This honeymoon stage can last for quite a long time. Afterwards, the second stage presents itself. A person may encounter some difficult times in daily life. This period of culture adjustment(调整)can be very difficult and lead to the new arrival rejecting the new culture. This “rejection stage” can be quite dangerous because the visitor may develop unhealthy habits, such as smoking and drinking too much.
The third stage is characterised by gaining some understanding of the new culture. A new feeling of pleasure and sense of humour may be experienced.
And you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place. Things are still difficult, but you are now a survivor! This is called the "adjustment stage". The fourth stage can be called "at ease at last". Now you feel quite comfortable in your new environment. You can deal with most problems.
You may still have problems with the language, but you know you are strong enough to deal with them. If you meet someone from your country who has just arrived, you can be the expert on life in the new culture and help them to deal with their culture shock.
The fifth stage is the stage that is called the "re-entry shock." This occurs when a return to the country of origin is made. One may find that things are no longer the same. For example, some of the newly learnt customs are not in use in the old culture.

Tips for College Freshmen
You may have grown up living with lots of siblings,or this may be your first time sharing your living space with someone else. 1 However,it can also be a great part of your college experience.
Follow these five tips to make sure you and your roommate keep things pleasant and supportive throughout the year(or even years).
1. Address problems when they’re little.
Is your roommate always forgetting his stuff for the shower and taking yours? Are your clothes being borrowed faster than you can wash them?Addressing things that bother you while they’re still little can help your roommate be aware of something he may not know. And addressing little things is much easier than addressing them after they’ve become big.
2. 2
This may seem simple, but it’s probably one of the biggest reasons why roommates experience disagreements or arguments. Don’t think he’ll mind if you borrow his shoes for a quick soccer game For all you know, you just stepped over an uncrossable line. Don’t borrow, use, or take anything without getting permission first.
3. Be friendly, without expecting to be best friends.
Don’t go into your roommate relationship thinking that you are going to be best friends for the time when you’re at school. It may happen, but expecting it sets both of you up for trouble. You should be friendly with your roommate. 3 . Be open to new things.
Your roommate may be from someplace you've never heard of. 4 Be open-to new ideas and experiences, especially as they relate to what your roommate brings into your life. That's why you go to college in the first place, right
5. Stay open to changes.
You should expect to learn, grow and change during your time at school. And the same should happen to your roommate, if all goes well. In the beginning, everything seems exciting and interesting.
5 Anyway, be comfortable addressing things that unexpectedly come up, setting new rules, and being flexible to your changing environment.
A. Respect your roommate's stuff.
B. Never touch anything of your roommate's.
C. Having a roommate inevitably has its challenges.
D. Meanwhile, make sure you have your own social circles.
E. It can be easier than you think to solve your problems ideally.
F. He may have a religion or lifestyle that is completely different from your own.
G. As the semester progresses, things will be different and even hard for both of you.
