Step I学习理解
活动一:感知与注意
1.Brainstorm
Show some pictures about some famous colleges or universities and ask students to express whether they want to study abroad and why.
2.Ask students to talk about their favourite colleges or universities and imagine what their campus life will be.
3.Let students read the title and try to predict what the two letters are mainly about.
【设计意图】通过图片和问题,引导学生探讨自己最喜欢的高校并畅想大学生活,使学生提前进入话题,为接下来的文章阅读做好准备。
活动二:获取与梳理

1.Read the two letters and underline each writer's main points. Then mark the reasons for their opinions. Pay attention to the structures or sentences the writers use when giving reasons.

活动四:分析与判断

活动五:内化与应用
1.Write a letter to express your own opinions about studying abroad.
Ask students to discuss the following questions groups.
·What are some other advantages or disadvantages of studying abroad that were not mentioned in the letters?
·Which parent would you probably side with?Why?List your reasons.
Suggested answers
·One disadvantage of studying abroad is that not all students are suited to it. Some students will never gain the needed language ability or may not get the most from an unfamiliar teaching approach. One advantage of studying abroad is the opportunity to meet new lifelong friends from different cultural backgrounds.
·I would probably side with Zhang Yi because I think Wang Li's perspective is too narrow. Yes, there are possible disadvantages with studying abroad, but Chinese students are smart and strong enough to overcome these. Meanwhile, the rewards for studying abroad are much greater than any of the disadvantages.

Nowadays, many students go abroad to study.
Some deem it is a good thing, but others disagree. as for me, I prefer to study abroad.
Here are the disadvantages of studying abroad. Firstly, students will be confronted with so many psychological problems. They often feel lonely and helpless in a new environment. Furthermore, the tuition is very high, which is a very heavy financial burden to the average people.
But there are also many advantages of studying abroad. It broadens students' knowledge and horizons and meanwhile cultivates their independence and personalities. Since the reform and opening-up to the outside world, China has strengthened cooperation with many countries. As a result, the scientific and technological level has been improved very rapidly.
And studying abroad can provide a good language environment to students and make it easy to pick up a foreign language which is employed to communicate with each other. It can remove language barrier and make international cooperation much easier All in all, the advantages of studying abroad outweigh the disadvantages greatly. Studying abroad we can learn a lot.
