Even now, almost a year after their astonishing act of group heroism, the dozens of people who risked their lives to save two boys from drowning in Panama City Beach, are still remembered.
The story began on 8 July,2017.Members of the Ursrey family, eight in total, were enjoying an evening together at the beach. As the sun sank lower on the horizon(地平线),the two boys-Noah,11 and Stephen,8-took their skateboards and walked into the waves without the grown-ups noticing. When the boys were about 70 yards from shore, they realised that the ocean pulled them out to sea. After trying and failing to paddle(膛水)back, they started waving and screaming for help. But the lifeguards had clocked out for the evening.
The boys had been struggling for several minutes when Brittany and Tabatha Monroe,a married couple from Georgia, wandered by. They didn't see the boys at first, but they heard them.
They jumped into the water and easily reached the brothers, who were still in fairly shallow water. The woman reassured the frightened boys and seized their skate boards, telling them they would be safe and then discovered that they, too, were now in a world of trouble.
They couldn't get back to shore and could barely and only occasionally hit the sandy bottom with their feet. After a few minutes,it was clear to the woman that they were all trapped in a terrible whirlpool.
Then scores of tourists were walking to them, hand in hand, forming a line. Soon the first person held the woman's hand. In turn, her husband and the two boys joined her. The long line moved slowly until they were back to the safety of the beach.
The rescuers call it the Human Chain. But it was the deeply “human” aspect of the rescuers' cooperation(合作)that made it so astonishing and successful.

[江西南昌十中2021高二期中]Dr Faisal Zawawi,an otolaryngologist and member of the McGill Auditory Sciences Laboratory, notes that when a person is exposed to loud noises,it can cause short-term hearing loss, but under normal circumstances the body typically is able to repair the loss of hearing within 72 hours. However,Zawawi warns that if symptoms are not reversed(好转)in the first 72 hours, the damage could become permanent. Due to findings in previous studies about it,Zawawi says that the team of researchers has suspected that something may stop this repair process. Therefore, the team set out to determine if caffeine could be a contributing cause of hearing loss. According to the Medical Daily, the researchers tested what they suspected on female guinea pigs(FGP,雌性豚鼠).
To perform the test,24 female guinea pigs were split into three equal groups with each group exposed in different levels of caffeine and loud noises. The researchers found that the female guinea pigs that were only affected by sound had their full hearing recovered by day. However, the female guinea pigs that were affected by both caffeine and loud noises never fully regained their hearing. Therefore, the researchers concluded that caffeine is a likely contributing cause of permanent hearing loss.
"This research confirms that while a cup of coffee may seem appealing after a long night at a loud concert, drinking caffeine produces more risks than benefits when it comes to a person's hearing. Although further research is required to understand the effects on humans, the results are promising," says Zawawi. If the research proves successful, the removal of caffeine from your diet following noise exposure could prevent permanent hearing loss as the body will be more able to repair itself naturally.
1. What caused the team to do the research
A. Caffeine-loving people suffering hearing loss.
B. The results about hearing loss found before.
C. The findings that FGPs are sensitive to noise.
D. The fact that many people drink coffee.
2. What is Zawawi's view about temporary hearing loss
A. Drinking coffee daily results in it.
B. The continuous noise exposure surely causes it.
C. The temporary hearing loss will become permanent after 3 days.
D. Generally people can recover from it in 3 days.
3. What can we learn about hearing from the text
A. Coffee can lead to quick hearing loss.
B. Loud noises cause people to lose it forever.
C. Coffee can stop it from recovering.
D. Hearing loss after noise exposure is normal.
4. How does Zawawi assess the research
A. It's controversial.
B. It's unnecessary.
C. It's not predictable.
D. It's almost successful.

[江西九江五校2021高二期中]A concussion(脑震荡)happens when the brain is shaken, often in a car crash or a fall or a strike to the head in sports. Concussions can be mild, but doctors may order a CT scan to look for a more serious injury. CT provides a detailed image of the brain. But a recent study warned that 1 .
A national team led by two doctors at the University of California,Davis, studied hospital records of thousands of children with head injuries. They found that in many cases, 2 .
The researchers have developed rules to predict if a head injury is serious enough for a scan. For children under two, doctors would advise them against it if there are normal mental activities,no swelling in the back of the head,no feeling of a broken bone in the skull and 3 .Doctors should also consider how the child was injured and whether the parents say the child is acting normally.
For patients from two to eighteen, 4 .
Earlier this year, the British Journal of Sports Medicine published new guidelines for concussions in children and teens. International experts said 5 . The brain also needs a "rest", they say, by restricting activities like video games, texting and watching TV. The experts say young people often take longer than adults to recover from a concussion.
A. no bleeding from the wounds
B. no loss of consciousness for more than five seconds
C. lying in bed with any movement should be the best way
D. they should not return to sports or school until fully recovered
E. more children than necessary are being exposed to radiation this way
F. the guidelines are similar-except there should be no loss of consciousness
G. the risk of developing cancer from the radiation outweighed the risk of a serious brain injury
