(2020 全国 I 卷)Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触)with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would bum about 800 calories (卡路里)per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would bum walking, although fewer than running, which would probably bum about 1,000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.
4. Why are race walkers conditioned athletes
A. They must run long distances.
B. They are qualified for the marathon.
C. They have to follow special rules.
D. They are good at swinging their legs.
5. What advantage does race walking have over running
A. It’s more popular at the Olympics.
B. It’s less challenging physically.
C. It’s more effective in body building.
D. It’s less likely to cause knee injuries.
6. What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking
A. Getting experts’ opinions.
B. Having a medical checkup.
C. Hiring an experienced coach.
D. Doing regular exercises.
7. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking
A. Skeptical.
B. Objective.
C. Tolerant.
D. Conservative.

(2018 全国 II卷)Many of us love July because it’s the month when nature’s berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels from British Columbia’s fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.
Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质), iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein). Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃),they are so delicious who cares However, they are rich in vitamin C.
When combined with berries or slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice cream” . For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer.
If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “soft-serve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children’s party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.
8. What does the author seem to like about cherries
A. They contain protein.
B. They are high in vitamin A.
C. They have a pleasant taste.
D. They are rich in antioxidants.
9. Why is fresh lemon juice used in freezing bananas
A. To make them smell better.
B. To keep their colour.
C. To speed up their ripening.
D. To improve their nutrition.
10. What is “a juicer” in the last paragraph
A. A dessert.
B. A drink.
C. A container.
D. A machine.
11. From which is the text probably taken
A. A biology textbook.
B. A health magazine.
C. A research paper.
D. A travel brochure.
D
(2020 新高考全国 I 卷)According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions can influence our food intake. And contrary to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions (份), it’s the beanpoles with big appetites you really need to avoid.
To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a lab to ostensibly (表面上)participate in a study about movie viewership. Before the film began, each woman was asked to help herself to a snack. An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first. In her natural state, the actor weighed 105 pounds. But in half the cases she wore a specially designed fat suit which increased her weight to 180 pounds.
Both the fat and thin versions of the actor took a large amount of food. The participants followed suit, taking more food than they normally would have. However, they took significantly more when the actor was thin.
For the second test, in one case the thin actor took two pieces of candy from the snack bowls. In the other case, she took 30 pieces. The results were similar to the first test: the participants followed suit but took significantly more candy when the thin actor took 30 pieces.
The tests show that the social environment is extremely influential when we’re making decisions. If this fellow participant is going to eat more, so will I. Call it the “I’ll have what she’s having” effect. However, we’ll adjust the influence. If an overweight person is having a large portion, I’ll hold back a bit because I see the results of his eating habits. But if a thin person eats a lot,I’ll follow suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can’t I
12. What is the recent study mainly about
A. Food safety.
B. Movie viewership.
C. Consumer demand.
D. Eating behavior.
13. What does the underlined word “beanpoles” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. Big eaters.
B. Overweight persons.
C. Picky eaters.
D. Tall thin persons.
14. Why did the researchers hire the actor
A. To see how she would affect the participants.
B. To test if the participants could recognize her.
C. To find out what she would do in the two tests.
D. To study why she could keep her weight down.
15. On what basis do we “adjust the influence” according to the last paragraph
A. How hungry we are.
B. How slim we want to be.
C. How we perceive others.
D. How we feel about the food.

16 ,if you’re out of your comfort zone or if you’re wandering into somebody’s house for the first time. So the main thing is just to show up and be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers.
People love to talk about themselves. If you can start the conversation with a question other than “What do you do for a living ”, you’ll be able to get a lot more interesting conversation out of whomever it is you’re talking to. 17 , it can bring in “I have this old, broken-down vehicle” or “I rode the bus with these crazy people who were laughing at silly jokes in the back.” It just opens up conversation.
18 If you can’t take their wine away, you should certainly try to take away their soapbox (讲台). If you’re the host, you can ask them to help you in the kitchen with something and just remove them from the situation. 19 .
And what about that other dinner-party killer: awkward silence If you9re faced with an awkward silence at a dinner party, the only thing that always gets everyone talking again is to give the host a compliment (赞扬). 20 . Just quickly turn around and say, “This cake is extremely delicious and you have to tell me all about it.”

(2021 山东濰坊高二期末)It was just the three of us—my parents and me. My dad was a truck driver, and when I was little, he was gone most of the time, delivering wire and other supplies around the Midwest. So my mom was almost like a single mother.
We lived in a small house in Brighton, Colorado, in a neighborhood of 1970s old houses. We had a big yard with plenty of room for our five dogs and two cats to run around.
We moved there on my third birthday. My first memory is our neighbor Arlene handing me strawberries (草莓)from her garden through a hole in the chain-link fence. She and her husband, Bill, lived next door.
Arlene spent a lot of time working in the garden, and I was always talking to her from our yard. I was a chatterbox (喋喋不休的人).I think what drew me to Arlene and Bill is that they never got tired of listening to me. I also think Arlene saw a lot of herself in me—we were both lonely, anxious—and that may be why she always took the time to listen to me. Bill too. It was a wonderful connection.
One day, my parents asked Bill and Arlene whether they’d watch me while they were out. This worked well for everyone, so it became a somewhat frequent occurrence. Arlene and Bill didn’t have kids. They had a spare room in their house, which became “my” room. I had boxes of toys and books in that room. Arlene and I would do crafts together. Bill taught me how to ride a bike and later how to drive the lawn tractor (割草机).He was always fixing something in his yard and always smelled like oil. I would wander over to chatter to him, and he would always stop and listen to me, just like Arlene did. Time flew and I was five years old before I knew it.
One night, my parents were watching TV when I had an idea. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Will you be my grandparents ”1 asked. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
根据第一项自行车旅行中的“Reserve your spot before availability and the cherry blossoms——disappear!”
根据第三项自行车旅行中的“Knowledgeable guides will entertain you with the most interesting stories about Presidents,Congress, memorials, and parks.”
根据最后两句 “Tour includes bike, helmet, and bottled water. All riders are equipped with reflective vests and safety lights.”
由题干中的“conditioned athletes”定位到第二段,根据该段第三句 “But the sport’s rules require that a race walker,s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times.”
根据最后一段第一句“As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner,s knee, are uncommon among race walkers.”
根据最后一段第三句“In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. consult a coach意为“咨询教练”,与A项“获 取专家的意见”为同义表达,故选A项。
由第二段中的“As for cherries, they are so delicious who cares [至于楼桃,它们味道甜美,(至于其他方面)谁会在乎呢 ]” 可知,C项陈述与之吻合。
由 “If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown.”
最后一段中画线词处的语境提到“喂食”(feed in), “吐出”(out comes),“放进机器的顶部”(into the top of the machine),从这些信息词判断画线词指的是一种机器,因此选D。
根据第一段第一句“According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions can influence our food intake.”
根据第一段第二句“And contrary to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions, it’s the beanpoles with big appetites you really need to avoid.”
根据第二段第一句“To test the effect of social influence on...” 及第四句 “An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first.”
根据最后一段最后两句“But if a thin person eats a lot, I’ll follow suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can’t I ” 可知,如果一个瘦的人吃得多,“我”也会这么做。
So the main thing is just to show up
空格后的it指的就是C项中的the question。
很明显,F项中的who has had too much to drink (喝得太多的人)及won’t stop talking (讲个不停的人)这两类人与空后的take their wine away (拿走他们的酒)和take away their soapbox (撤掉他们的讲台)对应,故选F项。
由下段开头的“And what about...”
该项中的He or she指的就是空格前句中的 the host。
I worked in a baking factory可知,作者是在一家供培工厂打工,而Hough Bakeries就是上文提到的工厂,所以这家工厂应该是生产(make)小兔子蛋糕。

remove...from... save...from...使……免于;keep/stop... from...
根据下文的the cakes pile up和high-pressure可判断,这项工作要比听起来难(harder)。
calm down (使)平静,(使)镇静;stay on留下来继续(工作、学习等);move on继续前行。

根据句中的比较级more effective可知,这里是把 running 与 walking, cycling, swimming 进行比较,故填 than。
41. that/which考查定语从句的关系词。
45. running/it考查名词或代词。 give sth. a try尝试一下某事。

From this activity, we have realized that building up our body is of great importance, and we have also learned more about “persistence leads to success”.
One possible version:
One night,my parents were watching TV when I had an idea. “What if I adopt Bill and Arlene as my grandparents ” My mother paused for a moment and asked me why I had such an idea. I said they were very kind to me and taught me a lot of things. Most importantly, they were willing to listen to me chattering. I liked them. My parents thought it was a brilliant idea and suggested that I ask them the next day.
“Will you be my grandparents ”1 asked. On hearing my words, they laughed. “They didn’t take what I said seriously ” I wondered. I was about to express my feelings when my parents came. They conveyed their gratitude to the couple for taking care of me,adding that I really wanted them to be my grandparents. Overwhelmingly surprised and moved, they hugged me firmly, tears of happiness streaming down their cheeks. From then on, we became a warm family.
