Module 3 Journey to space
任务型练习
一、阅读短文,回答所提出的问题。
Earth is our home.It has air that we can breathe. It has water for us to drink. It has plants and animals that we can eat.Earth is neither too hot nor too cold for us.It has everything we need to live.
We are on earth, but we can see things that are not on earth.Early in the morning,we can see the sun come up.All day,the sun seems to move across the sky.Late in the day,we can see the sun go down. But the sun is not really moving around us.We are the ones who are moving.Every morning,we turn toward the sun.Every night,we turn away from it.Every year,we go around it.Earth is our spaceship. All of us in the ship are riding around the sun.
At night,we can often see the moon and stars. From earth stars look like little points of light. But stars are really big.A star is a great mass of burning gas.It gives off(发出)light and heat. Our sun is a star.
There are eight planets moving around our sun.Earth is the third planet from the sun. Some of the planets have moons.A moon goes around a planet just as a planet goes around a star.Earth has only one moon. Some planets have more.

Last December my mother and I flew to London. The first thing we did was to go on a bus tour. This is the best way to tour London and learn all about the history of this city. By the time the tour was over, it was dark and we experienced London by night. The Christmas lights were just fantastic. And I was very surprised to find that so many people made their way home through the heavy traffic on bicycles! I was looking forward to spending the next day in Oxford Street with all its wonderful shops. And what a fantastic experience that was! We bought a London underground ticket and could go everywhere very quickly.
We spent all morning shopping and enjoying the Christmas activities inside the shops and out in the street. Then it was back to the hotel with all our shopping bags and out again to visit the city. First we went to a wax (蜡像) museum called Madame Tussauds, which was full of wax figures of famous people. My mother and I took a lot of photos there. Then we took the underground to Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard (卫兵交接). Unluckily, we could not see well because there were so many visitors waiting to take photos.

What is the sky ①This question is very difficult to answer. The sky is a space where there is nothing except the sun,the earth, the moon and all the stars.
Scientists can look at them through telescopes(望远镜) and,in this way, they can find out a great deal (许多,大量).They know many facts about the moon. For example, they know how big and how far away it is.②The moon is about 384,000 kilometers away from the earth.A plane cannot fly to the moon because there is no air.But a rocket can.
“How can a rocket fly ” If you want to know, get a balloon and then blow it up,until it is quite big.Do not tie up the neck of the balloon.Let it go!The balloon will fly off through the air very quickly. The air inside the balloon tries to get out through the neck of it,which pushes(推动)the balloon through the air.It does not need wings(翅膀)like a plane.③ .Of course, the rocket is made of(由……制成) metal(金属).The metal must not be heavy but it must be very strong. There is a gas(气体) inside the rocket which is made very hot. When it rushes out of the rocket, the rocket is pushed up into the air.

We sometimes can see the moon clearly. But when it is a cloudy night we cannot always see it clearly. We don’t always see the whole moon because(A)月球围着地球转.The moon seems to change its shape because as the moon moves,we see different parts of the moon lit(照亮)by the sun.(B)Usually we see a full moon once a month. When there is a big, round, full moon, the night sky is sometimes brighter. At other time we only see half of the moon or a quarter of the moon.Sometimes the moon is completely dark because the moon is halfway(中间的)between the sun and the earth. The dark side of the moon is facing the earth and the sun is shining on the other side. When this happens,it is called a new moon and like a full moon. This only happens about once a month.
