Stephen Hawking was born in Oxford,England on 8th January,1942.He went to school in St Albans—a small city near London.Although he did well,he was never top of his class. After leaving school,Hawking went first to Oxford University where he studied physics, then he went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology(宇宙学).As he himself admitted he wasn’t very serious about studying. He was a very lazy student, and did very little work. However,he still achieved extremely good marks.

I will always remember my mother’s last few days in this world.
On February 14th,2000,my class went on a field trip to the beach.I had so much fun. When we returned to school,my teacher told me to go to the headmaster’s office. When I got into the office,I saw a police officer.Suddenly I realized something was wrong. The police officer told me what had happened and we went to pick my sister up.After that,we went to the hospital and waited.Time went slowly. Finally,we got to see our mother. It was terrible.
On the next day,the headmaster came and told my two teachers what had happened.I was taking a rest that day.I knew it had something to do with my mother.I kept thinking that she either died or had gotten better. How I wished that she had gotten better! When my teacher took me outside,my sister ran up to me.She started crying,“She’s gone.Teresa, mommy’s gone. She’s dead.” I couldn’t believe it.We jumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there. The silence was terrible.I knew I had to say goodbye.
Today when I look back,I still miss my mother very much, but I know that I will live.My mother was a strong mother, who had the biggest heart. My mother was an angel walking on the earth.I will always remember her as living. When someone is asked who their hero is,they usually say someone famous, like Michael Jordan or Britney Spears. When someone asks me who my hero is,I tell them,my mother. My mother lives every day. That is what makes her a true hero.

Arthur Miller (1915-2005) is universally recognized as one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century.Miller’s father had moved to the USA from Austria-Hungary,drawn like so many others by the “Great American Dream”.However,he experienced severe financial hardship when his family business was ruined in the Great Depression of the early 1930s.
Miller’s most famous play,Death of a Salesman,is a powerful attack on the American system, with its aggressive way of doing business and its insistence on money and social status as indicators of worth. In Willy Loman, the hero of the play,we see a man who has got into trouble with this system.Willy is “burnt out” and in the cruel world of business there is no room for sentiment:if he can’t do the work, then he is no good to his employer, the Wagner Company, and he must go.Willy is painfully aware of this, and at a loss as to what to do with his lack of success. He refuses to face the fact that he has failed and kills himself in the end.
When it was first staged in 1949,the play was greeted with enthusiastic reviews, and it won the Tony Award for Best Play, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was the first play to win all three of these major awards.
Miller died of heart failure at his home in Roxbury,Connecticut,on the evening of February 10,2005,the 56th anniversary of the first performance of Death of a Salesman on Broadway.

One of the simplest and the most effective forms of communication involves nothing more than the movement of facial muscles. What am I talking about?Smiling!Everyone understands what a smile means, and everyone also understands what a frown means. In fact, these two basic facial expressions can be recognized across countries, across the world and across the globe, regardless of the language spoken or the culture lived in.
Hugs are so beautiful! When you give someone a hug or someone comes up and gives you a hug, this simple act of a hug can “speak” volumes about how much you care for the other person, how much love you want to share with the other person, how much you have missed the other person. This hug has so much to say,and yet there never has to be any words spoken.
And,who needs to say the words “yes” or “no” when a movement of the head says the same thing. These basic examples show just how powerful body language can be.Just knowing how to read and use body language effectively, makes it really easy to see why it is not always a bad thing to be lost for words.
Body language in the world of love is a very common thing and sometimes the only thing. And,most of the time, body language is the very first words “spoken” before any words are.The old saying is “love at first sight”,not “love at first word”.Across a crowded room, their eyes meet and linger,he winks at her,and she raises an eyebrow. The connection is made without any words needed. These displays of body language say it all.In fact, sometimes they can say more than words can.
68.The author thinks it isn’t a bad thing to be lost for words because ________.

C.Wonderful. D.Powerful.
71.Which of the following statements is NOT true?

B.Smiling means the same thing all over the world.
C.Words are not necessary in the world of romance.
D.“Yes” or “no” are usually replaced by body language.
E
I hear many parents say that their teenagers are too independent.I wish it were so.At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are all taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents.Instead of striking out bravely on their own, most of them are trying to seize at one another’s hands for safety.
They say they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But the reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it.They have come out of their cocoon(蚕茧) into a larger cocoon.
It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way.Industry has firmly opened up a teenager market. These days every teenager can learn from newspapers and TV what a teenager should have and be.And many of today’s parents have come to award (奖励) high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to great difficulty for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path.
But the difficulty is worth getting over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t care to share at once with your classmates.Well,go to it.Find yourself.Be yourself.Popularity will come—with the people who respect you for who you are. That’s the only kind of popularity that really counts.
72.The writer’s purpose in writing this text is to tell ________.
A.readers how to be popular in the world
B.teenagers how to learn to decide things for themselves

Many people think dreams are full of messages that may not be clear to us common people. But if we think about what is going on in our lives, we can usually come up with an answer. Let’s look at some of the most common dreams. What do these dreams mean?
Falling
You’re falling, falling, falling...and then you wake up. This dream is said to mean you are afraid of something or worried about something. There may be something in your life that is out of control and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Another explanation is that you may fail in something. Maybe you’re not doing well in school or work.
Taking an exam (or forgetting that you have one)
You suddenly realize you have to take an exam at that very moment. You might be running here and there to find your classroom. Experts say this dream may mean you’re being tested about something or maybe you are facing a challenge.
Flying
Dreaming that you are flying means you are on top of things. You are in control of the things that matter to you. It may also mean you have confidence in yourself and think no one and nothing can beat you.
Trying to run, but going nowhere
You’re trying to run, but either your legs won’t move or you simply aren’t going anywhere. Some experts think this dream means you’re trying to do too many things at once and can’t catch up or move forward.
In fact, unlike these dreams, there are also many strange dreams that experts may not be able to explain.
