三.阅读理解(30分)
A
It is really a happy thing to look back on the days I spent with Jennie. We met in night school. After Jennie and I had completed the required courses, we started teaching in the same school. For a time we were just casual friends, but one day, when I was telling Jennie about my problem son, we discovered we were kindred (同类的) spirits. "He’s a difficult little character," I explained. Jennie looked thoughtful. "Maybe you’re only seeing him with your eyes." She was silent for a moment and then added softly, "It is only with the heart that one sees rightly." I stared at her. "You’re quoting (引用) that! It’s from The Little Prince, Saint-Exupery’s book for children, one of my favorites. You know it, too?" Jennie nodded. "I love it. I’ve read it so often. I’ve practically memorized it." ???? Now, when I think of Jennie, I recall that book because Jennie —more than anyone I know —possessed the gift of seeing with the heart. ???? From that moment of a treasured book shared, our friendship grew steadily. It wasn’t that I didn’t have an excellent relationship with my husband and son, but my mother had died shortly after my marriage, and I had neither sisters nor daughters. I realize, now, how I needed someone to share those little, seemingly unimportant things that add so much to life —things that must be shared to be fully appreciated. ???? And it was Jennie who helped me with my fourth-grade problem child. One day I was at my wit’s end. "What he needs is a good beating!" I exploded. ???? "He’s probably had plenty of those," Jennie said. "Maybe he just needs sincere praise for anything he does right, and a hug or two each day." I followed this suggestion, and eventually, because of Jennie, I discovered a lovable little boy. ???? Looking back, I have to admit that she taught me so much. The days I spent with her has become one of my happiest memories. 61. What does the underlined part mean in the fourth paragraph?

"If you put one seed in the ground and rain comes, it will grow to produce many seeds." ???? Samaké, one of 2,000 residents, lives in a small village, Sounkala, in one of the world’s poorest countries. The organization has built about 300 schools in Mali, Malawi, Nepal, Senegal, Nicaragua and Haiti. Its goal is to get young Americans in mostly urban areas to get involved in education. At the same time it can bring literacy to children and adults in poor villages in the developing world. ???? ?With all the responsibilities we face in our daily lives, it’s often hard to get a good night’s rest. The problem really lies in the stress that many of us experience. Stress robs you of the rest that you need by putting you in a constant state of pressure and worry. There are, of course, numerous methods that can help you relax, but only a few of them give you a good night’s sleep. One of them is soothing (舒缓的)music for sleep. ???? Sleep music is not just for promoting relaxation, it also can be used for various situations. Want to have a relaxing evening by yourself? Practice yoga in a comfortable environment? Think over something important? Then put on your favorite sleep music. Sleep music is not only suited for adults, but has also been known to be beneficial for children. Soothing music helps your children go to sleep more easily. ???? Massage therapists (按摩治疗师)can also benefit from using soothing music for sleep in their clinics. This allows clients to benefit more from the session. For example, massage therapists can provide the relaxation of the body through their techniques, and the music helps clients ease their minds, helping them to relax deeper and feel more refreshed after the session. ???? You’ll never run out as there are numerous artists and companies that make sleep music. Choosing the right music is important as well. Like most music that you can find and buy in stores, sleep music has different styles, sounds, and themes. There are those that are specifically targeted for relaxation, while some are intended to help you go to sleep. ???? The great thing about sleep music is that it will be something you’ll be using for months, even years to come. If you want a deeper relaxation and better sleep, give some soothing music for sleep a try.

???? [1] It’s pretty obvious that most people use calm music. It simply is the best tool to use when you’ve had a hard day at work and all you want to do is sit back and relax. You should know though, that there are some other great uses for your collection of slow tracks.
Pregnancy(怀孕) ???? [2] Science has proven that musical tones affect the brain waves. Since fetal (胎儿的)brain development begins as early as the fifth week, it might be a great idea to try to get your baby in a relaxed state early on. Some mothers do this by putting earphones over their bellies (肚子). ???? High Stress Tasks ???? [3] Gentle tunes can help you deal well with stressful work by relieving tension and anxiety. The tendency (倾向)of relaxing sounds to slow you down may really be good for you even if you are trying to push yourself to meet a deadline. This is because slowing down means you have a better chance at working more carefully and preventing big mistakes. ???? Medical Appointments ???? [4] Going to see the doctor or the dentist can be somewhat scary experiences. You might therefore want to _________. Many doctors actually already provide this. If yours doesn’t you might want to bring your own sounds stored in a device so you can have a more personal experience of listening to them with earphones. ???? [5] Obviously, calm music has moved beyond its traditional purpose. There are now a couple of other great reasons for you to keep playing those laid back tracks. Find out if it can help you out the next time you go to see your doctor or the next time your boss puts you in overdrive (疲劳过度). ???? 76. What’s the best title for the text? (within 10 words) ???? ____________________________________________ ???? 77. What does the underlined expression mean in the first paragraph? (within 8 words)

Text 10
A six-year-old boy has been found alive after spending four days and five nights in an icebox that was buried under tons of ruins in Thursday’s big earthquake.
The boy,Tom,was found early yesterday in the village of Sem as rescuers were working to pull his father out of the ruins of their home.
Hearing a faint cry of“Get me out,get me out…”,rescuers dug down another 1.5 m and found the boy in the icebox. He was in a good condition, suffering only four or five slight wounds.
Tom’s eight brothers and sisters died in the earthquake, which officials say may have killed as many as 50,000 people.
By Sunday, foreign doctors were leaving the earthquake areas as hope of finding any more survivors had faded.
