Aeron McQuillin, 18, Bailey Campbell, 17, and Billy Tarbett, 15, were on their way to a supermarket in Fonthill, Ontario, when they spotted a woman on the side of the road with smoke coming out of her car. They quickly found the problem and determined the car was too dangerous to drive.
The driver couldn’t afford a tow truck (拖车). So, Billy suggested that they push the car. The woman lives more than five miles away. Dan Morrison, who also stopped to help, told CNN the driver’s jaw dropped on hearing the teens’ offer. Bailey told CNN they just wouldn’t want to be stuck like that, so they insisted.
The three bought bottles of water and a speaker so they could “jam out” and started their journey. Morrison drove behind them with his hazard lights (双闪灯) on for safety. Baily said they faced several problems. The first was a big hill 300 yards from the start. Halfway through, they took a break and the battery died. They had to charge it just to get back into neutral (空挡位置).
After more than two and a half hours of pushing, they finally delivered the car back home. Bailey described the motorist as both thankful and amazed. They exchanged hugs, and everyone went home for some much-needed rest. The teens never got the woman’s full name.
Morrison took a couple of pictures of the teens, hoping to turn them into hometown heroes on social media. His Facebook post went viral, with positive comments coming in from as far away as Australia.

Along with soccer, basketball is a global sport. As you read this. young people somewhere in the world are happily passing, dribbling(运球) and shooting. It’s enormous fun and a joyful way to spend time with others.
Basketball is a game for everyone. Unlike golf or tennis. it doesn't require great wealth or a lot of space to play. After all, not many people have a golf course-sized backyard. and tennis equipment is expensive. Basketball, by contrast, just needs a wall with a hoop and a ball.
So after its invention by Canadian-American physical educator James Naismith in 1891, the sport took off within US citizens, who quickly became attracted to the game because it suited their circumstances. Today, 127 years later, basketball remains one of the most popular sports in the US, and the National Basketball Association (NBA)has an increasing appeal for fans around the world.
The success of basketball as global phenomenon is undoubtedly related to the way African-Americans play the game.” The basketball court reflected some of the major cultural shifts in America, such as from forbidding African-Americans to play basketball to allowing them to play in the NBA, "the LIVESTRONG website noted.
From the 1950s onwards, segregation rules, which had prohibited African-Americans from playing basketball in NBA games, were no longer used in the US. In 1950, when Earl Lloyd started to play for the Washington Capitols, things began to change. Since then, most of the greats of the game have been African-Americans, like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
It's not difficult to see that there's a strong link between political liberation and basketball. Something of this is expressed in a quote from the US author John Edgar Wideman. He makes a connection between basketball and hope:" When it's' played the way it's supposed to be played. basketball happens in the air; flying, floating, raised above the floor, letting the oppressed(受压制的) people of this earth imagine themselves in their dreams.”

Moms try so hard to make sure that their children are healthy. And this means that they try and avoid foods that have too much sugar or artificial ingredients (人工添加剂). Sugary drinks can be one of the main items that moms avoid, and that is because they are bad for their children’s teeth and health.
A new study, however, is showing that a sugary drink in the morning may not be so bad after all, at least not for girls. According to Medical Xpress, consuming sugary drinks before class has been shown to improve math scores, but only in girls. It has little impact on boys.
This was shown through a study that was published in the journal Health Economics. It found that sugary drinks had a direct impact on the behavior and math scores of children in preschool. It seems a little early to be offering the children sugary drinks, but let’s find out what they discovered.
To complete the study, researchers looked at more than 450 children, and the children in the study were given a sugary drink or an artificially sweetened (人工加糖的) drink and then they collected data before and after they had drunk it. When it came to boys and their behavior, they found that one sugary drink did seem to have a “relaxing” effect on them at first, but it didn’t last long and then they were more restless. The sugary drink did not result in any difference in a girl’s behavior. They then looked at math scores, and it showed that consuming a sugary drink had a negative impact on boys’ math scores, but it had a positive impact on the math scores of the girls.
“There are still a lot of schools that sell and hand out sugary drinks to students, and while this may seem to benefit girls, it could be making things more difficult for young boys,” says one of the researchers.
32.What is moms’ attitude to children’s drinking sugary drinks
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful. C.Unconcerned. D.Unfavorable.
33.What effect do sugary drinks have on children according to the study
A.They make girls relaxed. B.They help girls stay healthy.
C.They benefit girls in math. D.They supply boys with more inspiration.
34.What can we infer from the researcher’s words
A.Schools should be careful about selling sugary drinks to students.
B.Sugary drinks have attracted more school girls than school boys.
C.School girls should drink more sugary drinks before class.
D.School boys should drink more sugary drinks than school girls.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.School girls may be much better at math than school boys
B.Sugary drinks prove to be harmful to our health
C.School children are consuming too many sugary drinks
D.Sugary drinks may help improve girls’ math scores

Aunt Evie had a dollhouse. It had many toys there. Every Friday afternoon, I went to Aunt Evie’s home with my parents. The adults would sit around a table in the dining room, eating pie and talking, while I played in the dollhouse for hours.
Sometimes I would pick up these lovely toys and place them in different positions. It was really fun. One time I asked Aunt Evie where she got the toys so that I could buy some, too. To my disappointment, Aunt Evie said that most of them were specially handmade gifts from her friends and couldn’t be bought anywhere. One such toy was a little bear, which was my favorite. It was so beautiful that I wanted to own it badly. “If I take it, Aunt Evie may not notice it. ” I said to myself.
Therefore, on a Friday afternoon, I attempted to take the little bear away from Aunt Evie’s dollhouse. I had to wait until nobody was watching me, ‘and it took me hours to get the courage to put the little bear in my pocket. Once I got the little bear, I couldn’t wait to go home. I had to hide it somewhere at home, so that no one would know I took it. That night after I went home with my parents, I couldn’t go to sleep. “What a bad person I am! I stole something from my loved Aunt Evie.” I thought. When I woke up the next morning, I felt awful, but I couldn’t tell my parents, let alone return the little bear to Aunt Evie. I was embarrassed about my behavior. At some point, I started to hate the little bear and myself. And I knew if I didn’t do something, I wouldn’t get away from those bad feelings.

67.Paragraph I:
So I decided to tell my mom what I had done. After I told her all the story, I couldn’t hold back my tears. “I can’t live with myself and what I’ve done, ” I said. My mom shook her head in disappointment. “There’s only one way to make this right. You have to return the little bear and apologize to Aunt Evie, ” she said. Seized with fright, I stood frozen to the spot, thinking Aunt Evie would hate me. Eventually, with my mom’s encouragement, I got up the courage to head for Aunt Evie’s home.
Paragraph 2:
My hand was shaking when I rang the doorbell of Aunt Evie’s house. She unlocked the door, smiled and looked as if she already knew everything. I presented her with the little bear and made my apologies. “I admire your courage to return the bear. I would like to give it to you as a gift for your honesty. You’re always my favorite niece. ”Aunt Evie said. On hearing that, I felt a wave of relief. Mom’s words rang in my ears, “Honesty is the best policy!”

Another thing to remember: there will be a food festival between November 5th and 10th, where you can enjoy all kinds of food from about every country. Some of the food is a little expensive, but the good news is that it’s free to get in. It’s worth going just to look. Talking of money, you can get money off all kinds of things in Westford, if you are a student. Take your passport along to the office so that they can issue you with a student discount card.
