Passage 1
When I first went to Britain, a lot of things seemed strange to me. For example, people drove on the left side of the road and many people carried an umbrella all the time. There were also many other things that I found really surprising.
The first thing I noticed was how polite British people were. When I got on the bus, the driver would greet me; when people got off the bus, they would say“thank you” to the driver; when I went into a shop, I would be greeted by a smiling salesman.
The family I stayed with were very nice, but their house was full of strange things. Firstly, there were carpets everywhere, even in the bathroom. Also the bathroom was full of surprises. The first time I tried to wash my hands I burned myself. The cold and hot water came out from different taps. Then, when I tried to dry my hair, I couldn’t find a socket(插座) for my hairdryer. Maybe that wasn’t such a big surprise. More surprising was the fact that British people didn’t take their shoes off when they went into a house. Can you imagine
I guess that for British people all of these things are normal. It’s only when you visit a foreign country that you will realize that what you think is normal or not. Normality depends on where you are.

Passage 2
Happiness is the only true measure (衡量) of personal success. Making other people happy is the highest expression of success. If you can make others happy, you’ll be successful. But it’s almost impossible to make others happy if you’re not happy yourself. Here are some pieces of advice that can help increase the amount of happiness in your life.
Start each day with expectation. When you rise from bed, make your first thought: “Something wonderful is going to happen today.” Guess what! You’re possibly right.
Take time to plan and deal with something first. The most common cause of stress is the feeling that you’ve got too much work to do. Pick one thing that will move you closer to your goal in life. Then do it first.
Give a gift to everyone you meet. I’m not talking about a real present. Your gift can be your smile, a word of thanks or encouragement, a gesture of politeness, or even a friendly nod.
Turn off “background” TV. Many families leave their TVs on as “background noise” while they’re doing other things. The purpose of TV shopping(电视购物) is to make you dissatisfied with your life so that you’ll buy more things.
End each day with gratitude(感恩). Just before you go to bed, write down at least one wonderful thing that happened. It might be something as small as making a child laugh or something as huge as a million-dollar deal. Whatever it is, be grateful for that day because it will never come again.
1.If you are not happy, . ( )
A.other people won’t be happy, either
B.you can make others happy
C.you can’t make others happy, either
D.you can give others gifts
2.The underlined word “it” refers to . ( )
A.the easiest thing
B.the most difficult thing
C.the thing saving the most time
D.the wonderful thing
3.What does the passage mainly tell us ( )
A.How to end each day with gratitude.
B.How to make others happy.
C.How to get a happy life.
D.How to go away from TV.
Ⅲ.任务型阅读(6分)
CCTV reported that every year Chinese people throw away a lot of food which can feed 200 million people for a year.
Do we have too much food Of course not. According to the UN World Food Programme, there were over 980 million hungry people all over the world in 2019. About six million children die of hunger every year.
So think about it. We should say no to people who waste food every day. An old saying goes,“Every grain on the plate comes from hard work.” It tells us everybody must save food.
Luckily, a number of people have realized the importance of saving food. Li Hong, a waitress in a restaurant in Jiangsu, once lost her job because she took some leftover(剩余的) food home for her son. But many people were by her side and criticized the waste of food.
What should we do in our daily life to stop wasting food We can do many things to prevent it from happening. Here are some tips:
Don’t order too much food in a restaurant. Only order as much as you can eat. If you can’t eat all the food you order, take the rest of it home.
