Language points
1. —Why do you want to see them
—Because they’re interesting. (教材P25 1c)
why是疑问副词,意为“为什么”,用来询问原因、理由,一般由“Why +—般疑问句”构成特殊疑问句。why引导的特殊疑问句,一般用Because……来回答。because是连词,作“因为”讲,其后要接一个句子来描述原因、理由。because of 接的是名词、名词短语、代词等
eg:—Why do you like Chinese 你为什么喜欢语文?
—Because it's very interesting. 因为它很有趣。
He lost his job because of his age. 由于年龄关系他失去了工作。
I didn't buy the shirt because it was too expensive.
我没有买这件衬衫,因为它太贵了。
【易错警示】在英语中,because(因为)和so(所以)不能同时出现在一个句子里。
我不想买这件毛衣,因为它太贵了。
( × ) Because the sweater is too expensive, so I don’t want
to buy it.
( √ ) I don’t want to buy the sweater because it is too
expensive.

2. kind of interesting 有点儿有趣 (教材P26 2a)
kind of常用来修饰形容词或副词,相当于a little或a bit。
eg:I watched a movie. It’s kind of boring.
我看了一场电影,它有点儿无聊。
【拓展】kind 作名词,意为“种类”。常构成短语:
a kind of:一种
all kinds of:各种各样的
different kinds of:不同种类的
3. Where are they from (教材P26 2b)
eg:He is from Beijing.=He comes from Beijing. 他来自北京。
They don't come from China. 他们不是来自中国。
Do they come from China 他们来自中国吗?
I am from Beijing. 我来自北京。
He isn't from England. 他不是来自英国。
Is he from England 他来自英国吗?
Li Ming comes from Shandong. 李明来自山东。
be from意为“从……来,来自……”,其同意短语为come from。be from的be为系动词,句式的变化是由be来完成的,而且be有人称和数的变化。come from的come为实义动词,句式的变化须借助助动词do /does /did来完成,且谓语动词come受主语的影响
4. He can walk on two legs. (教材P26 2d)
在西方国家,人们多有饲养宠物的习惯,尤以养猫、狗居多。 他们往往将宠物视为家中成员,因此不用代词it指代宠物,而根据宠物性别用she或he。当泛指或不能确定性别时,英语中人们一般用she来指代小猫,用he指代小狗。
walk, stand 等动词后可接“介词+身份部位”,用以描述行为姿态。walk on…… 意为“用某种方式行走”,其中on为“由……支撑着”的含义。如:walk on one’s hands 用手倒立行走; stand on one’s hands 倒立。
5. Why don’t you like the cat (教材P26 2d)
Why don't you…… 意为“你为什么不呢 ”,用于向对方询问原因,其后接动词原形。Why don't you…… 还可用于向对方提出建议,相当于“Why not…… ”,其后接动词原形。此时的答语应为“Good idea!” 或“That’s sounds great.”等。
eg:—Why don’t they buy a new house 他们为什么不买一座新房子呢?
—Because they don’t have enough money. 因为他们没有足够的钱。
—Why don’t you get her a scarf 为什么不给她买条围巾呢?
—Good idea! 好主意!

6. She sleeps all day, and her name is Lazy. (教材P26 2d)
(1) sleep在句中作动词,意为“ 睡觉 ”,指睡眠的持续状态。
eg:Some students can’t sleep well the day before a math exam.
一些学生在数学考试前一天睡不好觉。
(2) sleep也可作不可数名词, 意为“睡觉”。
eg:I need to get some sleep. 我需要睡一会儿。
7. They’re my favorite animals. (教材P25 1a图片)
favorite作形容词,意为“最喜爱的,特别喜爱的”,可与like……best互换。What's one’s favorite…… =What……does/do sb. like best
eg:They’re my favorite animals. 它们是我最喜欢的动物。

【拓展】★ favorite还可用作名词,意为“最喜欢的人或事物”,既可以指人,也可以指物。favorite还可写作favourite。美式英语多用favorite,英式英语多用favourite
