As a means of dealing with loneliness and social isolation (孤立) in English towns, local police forces have begun providing specific public benches that can be used for making friends and having conversations.
The “Chat Benches”, which are now located in two different parks and outdoor areas in Somerset, are recognized by a little sign reading: “Sit here if you don’t mind someone stopping to say hello!”
The Avon and Somerset Police Department Facebook page recently published photos of their two new “Chat Benches” in Burnham and Taunton with an encouraging note for readers to stop by and use them for socialization (社交). “The sign simply helps to break the silence between strangers who find themselves sharing a common place,” says the police department. “We can all play a part. Simply stopping to say ‘hello’ to someone at the ‘Chat Bench’ could make life a little better for many people.”
According to a survey of the department, 17% of old people are only in contact with family, friends and neighbors less than once a week. This rises to about 9 million British people who suffer from loneliness and isolation each year.
The police force started the Chat Bench earlier this month to go with World Elder Abuse (虐待) Awareness Day. Though the officers say that there are many different forms of elder abuse which need our concern (关心), they hope that the Chat Bench will help to deal with senior loneliness in their communities. “The Chat Bench is a fantastic new thing and I hope people of all ages start many more conversations in the future,” says Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens.

Art therapy(疗法)is a kind of treatment that integrates mental health and human services by using the active
art-making,creative process, applied psychological(心理学的)theory, and human experience. Its goal is to help
people explore self-expression and, in doing so, find new ways to gain personal understanding and develop new
self-management skills.
"Art therapy didn't start to become a formal programme until the 1940s in the US," says Dr.Cassady ,a senior clinical psychologist."The creation or appreciation of art is used to help people explore emotions, develop self-awareness, deal with stress, boost self-esteem, and work on social skills.”
The founder of Niyo Arts Gallery that holds art therapy activities shares how art therapy helps people."A person is mentally ill because of being deviated(偏离) from what he has lived or has gone through. So, when they get time
to relax and interact with art which is also spiritual,it helps them a lot psychologically. When they paint, their creativ--ity interprets what they think and they can heal through that.".
Art therapy can be employed as a non-verbal alternative to treat a wide range of mental disorders and psychological distress(痛苦), some of which include ageing-related issues, anxiety, stress cancer, depression, eating disorders,
emotional difficulties, family or relationship problems and post-traumatic stress disorder(创伤后应激障碍)etc.
People do not need to have artistic ability or special talent to participate in art therapy, and people of all ages,
including children and adults, can benefit from it. Some research suggests that just the presence of art can play a part in boosting mental health.
People often wonder how an art therapy activity differs from an art class.According to Dr. Cassady,an art class
is focused on teaching techniques or creating a specific finished product, while art therapy is more about letting
clients focus on their inner experience when they are encouraged to create art that expresses their inner world more
than making something that is an expression of the outer world, which stimulates(刺激)the release of dopamine(多
巴胺),a chemical that is released when people do something pleasurable that basically makes them feel happier,
promoting healing and mental well-being.“Research-based evidence shows that increased levels of this feel-good
chemical can be very helpful if you are battling anxiety or depression,"Dr.Cassady says.

According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed ( 安装) has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be installed near them.
Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible, so they haven't given much thought to what they put under them. Often, they'll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.
“Solar projects need to be good neighbors,” says Jordan Macknick, the head of the Innovative Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment(InSPIRE) project. “They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy.” InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators(传粉昆虫).
Habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the
past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural economy. Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses, schools, cities—and now there are guidelines for solar farms.
Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction. “These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that's going on in the landscape,” says Macknick.
32.What do solar developers often ignore
A.The decline in the demand for solar energy. B.The negative impact of installing solar panels.
C.The rising labor cost of building solar farms. D.The most recent advances in solar technology.
33.What does InSPIRE aim to do
A.Improve the productivity of local farms. B.Invent new methods for controlling weeds.
C.Make solar projects environmentally friendly. D.Promote the use of solar energy in rural areas.
34.What is the purpose of the laws mentioned in paragraph 4
A. To conserve pollinators. B. To restrict solar development.
C. To diversify the economy. D. To ensure the supply of energy.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Pollinators: To Leave or to Stay B. Solar Energy: Hope for the Future
C. InSPIRE: A Leader in Agriculture D. Solar Farms: A New Development

Good Books Can Affect Our Life
It is universally acknowledged that books are of vital importance, without which our life would be lonely, monotonous and colorless. Books are to life what water is to fish.
There are a wide variety of books, ranging from science, art, culture to history, among which culture is always my favorite with its novelty and uniqueness. Books on culture have found their way into every aspect of my life. To begin with, book reading enriches my extracurricular life and gives me a sense of fulfillment. Furthermore, I can accumulate abundant knowledge about various cultures without going out. Finally, roaming in the ocean of knowledge and making a comparison between different cultures can broaden my horizons, thus instructing me to view things from different perspectives.
As Francis Bacon once said, reading makes a full man. A good book can affect our life in one way or another. To live an enjoyable and meaningful life, let's read more good books!

【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段的“The “Chat Benches”, which are now located in two different parks and outdoor areas in Somerset, are recognized by a little sign reading: “Sit here if you don’t mind someone stopping to say hello!”(这种“聊天长凳”现在位于萨默塞特郡的两个不同的公园和户外区域,上面的一个小牌子上写着:“如果你不介意有人停下来打招呼,请坐在这里!”)”和第三段中“The sign simply helps to break the silence between strangers who find themselves sharing a common place”(这个标志只是帮助打破了陌生人之间的沉默,他们发现自己住在一个共同的地方)可知,聊天凳有鼓励陌生人开始交谈的标志。故选D。
25题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段的“According to a survey of the department, 17% of old people are only in contact with family, friends and neighbors less than once a week. This rises to about 9 million British people who suffer from loneliness and isolation each year.”(据该部门的一项调查显示,17%的老年人每周与家人、朋友和邻居联系不到一次。每年约有900万英国人遭受孤独和孤立。)可知,越来越多的英国老人感到孤独和孤立。故选D。
