Alice Munro of Canada has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. It was announced by Peter Englund, who is the secretary of the Swedish Academy. Munro was born on July 10, 1931 and she recently has announced that her most recent collection, Dear Life, will be her last. This is her 14th short story collection. She is a short story writer and has received many awards, such as the Man Booker International Prize in 2009.
Munro is the 13th woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature and is the second Canadian to win the honor. Saul Bellow, a Canadian-born American writer, was the first to do so in 1976. Peter Englund described Munro as “a master of the contemporary short story”. She’s even been described as “Canada’s Chekhov” because of her ability to get to the root of human spirit in her works.
In the announcement, Peter Englund said that they usually inform award receivers by calling them. Munro was unable to be reached, so they ended up leaving voicemail on her phone, telling her of her winning the award. Munro had been away visiting her daughter and it was her daughter who woke her up and let her know that she had won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
“I knew I was in the running, but I never thought I would win,” said Munro in a telephone interview. Munro will also receive prize money which amounts to $1.2 million.
“For many years I thought that stories were just practice, till I got time to write,” said Munro in an interview. “Then I found that was all I could do, and I finished that.”

For the first 8 years of my daughter’s life, I was a single mom, with no help or support from family. To make matters worse, I had left my long-time friends behind so they said I was completely alone.
You can do anything in this world that you make up your mind to do. If you have children, you will homeschool (家中教学) them once you’ve learned a little about homeschooling and child psychology—all can be obtained within 1/2 hour of reading.
And you don’t need to follow the tough road I traveled. I worked all night after spending time with my child all day. I averaged 4 hours of sleep a night for those years.
You may wonder if it was worth it. My answer was that I wouldn’t have had it any other way. On the homeschooling side, life is much different. Homeschooled children are still tightly bonded with their parents, and have learned to make smart decisions on their own.
You likely can rely on friends and family. You likely have a spouse (配偶) who will support you. You likely don’t have to learn the hard lessons I did when I was raising my homeschooled child because there is much more help available to homeschoolers now.
So, get busy, have fun and enjoy those children this summer—without feeling tired!

Swimming is one of the healthiest sports that you can do. But you’d better find a swimming pool or stay close to the coast when you want to swim. Watch out for some of the most dangerous sea creatures in the world.
The box jellyfish is not only the most dangerous creature in the ocean, but also one of the most dangerous animals in the world. It doesn’t have a poisonous bite or sharp teeth. However, the box jellyfish is more responsible for human deaths on the continent of Australia than snakes, sharks, and saltwater crocodiles put together.
The stonefish is a strange-looking fish. Though it has a small size (up to 12 inches), it is considered as the most poisonous fish in the world. Its small body can keep it perfectly hidden between rocks underwater, adding to its danger. It’s their sharp poisonous fins (鳍) that you have to be worried about. They are sharp enough to stick through a shoe, so watch out for your steps.
Thanks to the movie Jaws, we know shark family is dangerous. Commonly known as a sea tiger, the tiger shark can grow to be over 5 meters long. It eats fish, seals, birds, dolphins and even other smaller sharks. So it can basically eat humans, too.
The lionfish is found in the Caribbean. Maybe they are the most beautiful sea creatures in the ocean. But don’t get close to them. While a bite from a lionfish is not deadly, the fish can provide a very painful attack with some powerful poison.
44. What do we know about the box jellyfish?
A. It’s deadly mainly because of its poisonous bite.
B. It is considered as a dangerous and deadly animal in Australia.
C. It has sharp teeth to attack other sea creatures.
D. It is considered as the most dangerous animal in the world.
45. Which of the following statements about the stonefish is NOT true?
A. Its fins are sharp enough to stick into your feet.
B. They are dangerous mainly because of their bites.
C. It is regarded as the most poisonous fish in the world.
D. It is a small fish which hides between rocks underwater.
46. We can infer that the movie Jaws is probably about .
A. the danger of sharks in the sea
B. different kinds of sea creatures in the world
C. the features of the tiger shark
D. the most dangerous sea creature in the world

Going back to school is an awful idea for most people. Whether it means getting your first degree or continuing your education for promotion, it usually means a large amount of time, money and energy you may not have. Why not think about going back to school online?
Set Your Own Schedule
Going back to school using the Internet allows you one major advantage: managing your time. Most online classes allow you the flexibility to take the course and learn the material at your own pace. Don’t misunderstand—school is still a considerable amount of hard work no matter where you get your education, but taking classes online provides convenience for you. Morning or night, weekdays or weekends, college education you need is available at your personal convenience.
Be Near Your Friends And Family
If you’re one of those parents looking to going back to school and obtain a degree, you obviously know how difficult it is to not only manage your time, but also take care of your family. When you’re getting a degree online, you work and learn from wherever is most comfortable for you!
Save Money
A lot of adults who look to going back to school will already have an established residence (居所) and a very accurate budget. They’ll go grocery shopping for the family every weekend, and there’s no use for things like a college “meal plan”. Going to school online means no room and board (膳食) fees, no extra money spent on public traffic vehicles, and no extra costs of lab fees!
As we get older, continuing our education can be a troublesome idea. But with the Internet, online education has become much more convenient for those seeking to get good education.
47. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. Reasons for You to Go Back to School Online
B. Tips on How to Return to School
C. How to Balance School and Family
D. Daily Things to Be Done at School
48. Why do some people want to go back to school?
A. Because they have a lot of money and time.
B. Because they expect to enjoy school days.
C. Because they hope for a rise in their position.
D. Because they think work is awful.
49. It is convenient to have classes online because .
A. college education you need is easy to reach
B. you can obtain a degree within a shorter time
C. it can provide you with more material
D. you can decide when you start your study
50. How can you save money by taking classes online?
A. You can choose the nearest university.
B. You can do the shopping while studying.
C. You needn’t pay for accommodation and food.
D. You needn’t spend extra money on textbooks.

How to get lots of self-confidence
Becoming more confident in yourself is easier than you think. 51 For a variety of reasons we can all lose confidence in ourselves. This article gives you some tips on how to get lots of confidence in yourself.
Start by setting aside at least an hour a day in a quiet place where you can keep a journal. 52 Write down some specific questions about your life and then try to answer them.
Find a support group. 53 Make sure to tell them that you are working on gaining more confidence in yourself and you would appreciate their help, support, and encouragement.
54 This may seem incredibly hard at first, but it does get easier as time goes on. Center your new activity on something you like to do. For example—do you like to cook? Try to prepare a small dinner or brunch for a few friends and show off your cooking skills. Always keep a record of how you feel after each new activity. Did it make you tired? Was it enjoyable? Could you do it again in six months and feel more confident?
Beat negative thinking. Try not to focus only on the negative side of a situation, and don’t put yourself down. 55 Since some problems are inevitable, being able to deal with disappointment is important. Remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments.
A. Try doing one new thing each week.
B. Instead, forgive yourself for mistakes.
C. Consider your strengths and successes.
D. You can just use a cheap notebook to write it on.
E. However, like other things, it does take some time.
F. Instead, get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly and enjoy a healthy diet.
G. This could be your immediate family, friends, or a group of Internet friends.

One possible version:
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m writing to make a complaint about the poor quality of the dish and the terrible service in your restaurant.
Last Saturday, Li Ming and I went to eat in your restaurant. We ordered a fish, but when it was served, we found it tasted terrible. So, we asked the waitress to change it for another, but she refused to do it so rudely, which made us very annoyed. So I require that the waitress apologize to us. In addition, we would like a full refund.
I would be very grateful if you could deal with this problemas soon as possible, and I really hope that this wouldn’t happen again.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
