Many workers have had no choice but to adapt to working from home in recent months since offices shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠疫情). And the noisy situation and endless housework may result in a terrible emotion. A new option is waiting for you. That is WFH: work from a hotel.
Hotel Figuero
A special program titled Work Perks aims to reposition some of 94-year-old Hotel Figuero’s 268 rooms as day-use offices.
According to Managing Director Connie Wang, the set-up launched in June and is a great opportunity to get out of their houses with high-speed Wi-Fi, unlimited printing privileges and free parking. The 350-square-foot rooms sell for $ 139 per day, with an option to extend to an overnight stay for an additional $ 30.
The Wythe
A boutique hotel in Brooklyn. The hotel recently announced a partnership with co-working office space company Industrious through which it is recycling 13 second-story guest rooms to serve as offices for up to four people.
The Sawyer
The Sawyer, in Sacramento, California, is offering pool cabanas (更衣室) for use as outdoor offices, complete with fast Wi-Fi, free parking and catered lunch for $ 150 per day.
Each of the rooms has a small outdoor platform, and dogs are welcome. Pricing starts at $ 200 and goes up to $ 275, depending on how many people use the space.
Hotels By Day
Yannis Moati founded Hotels By Day back in 2015. That company has grown to include more than 1,500 hotels, and has seen a significant increase in the number of inquiries for day-use bookings lately.
Moati said the current situation will force hotels to upgrade themselves to stay alive, and he predicted that offering rooms for day-use only is one of the directions they will go.

Chen Xingrong, 16, was born with autism (自闭症). “We did not understand why such a thing would happen to us,” says Chen’s father Chen Xunhu. He quit his job at a computer company and devoted his full attention to helping his son. In 2012, Chen Xunhu learned that swimming could help people with autism improve their articulation (发音) and physical growth, so he spent months teaching his son to swim.
“The efforts made no difference in the first three months,” he recalls. To his surprise, after another three months, he discovered that his son had developed the ability to control his breath under water, which significantly boosted his confidence. “I used to plan all his exercises for him, but now it is all up to him,” says the father. “He decides how many exercises he wants to do, and we respect his choices.” In spite of all the hardships in life, Chen Xingrong managed to become an outstanding swimmer, thanks to constant training and the support of his parents. Last year, he won five medals, including a gold, at the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the eighth National Special Olympic Games.
In 2010, an autism-themed film, titled Ocean Heaven, hit the big screen in China. It describes how a dying father attempts to teach his son the necessary life skills to live without him. “My wife and I watched the film in the theater,” he says. “We wept uncontrollably because we could resonate with the film’s characters.”
Since then, as well as swimming, helping his son learn basic life skills is also an important aim for the father. Thanks to his efforts, Chen Xingrong has learned to buy food in the market in their neighborhood. He also does voluntary jobs at supermarkets and fast-food restaurants, such as arranging shelves and cleaning dining tables. “He is part of the community, and I hope he will live a normal life in the future. There is nothing that we want more than that,” says Chen Xunhu.
24.Why did Chen Xingrong’s father arrange swimming exercises for him
A.To realise his potential of swimming. B.To develop his ability to breathe.
C.To become a well-known athlete. D.To overcome his autism-related problems.
25.What made Chen Xingrong’s success
A.His father’s professional instruction. B.His determination and his parents’ love.
C.His physical disability and hardship in life. D.His own special gift for swimming,
26.What does the underlined word “resonate” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Work together. B.Get along. C.Fall in love. D.Share common feelings.
27.What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A.Chen Xingrong has devoted to volunteer jobs. B.Chen Xingrong is trying to earn much money.
C.Chen Xingrong is learning to adapt to society, D.Chen Xingrong has quitted his swimming career.

Electric cars are supposed to help the world go green and stop hurting the planet. Engineers at Brown University and the University of Maryland are taking that goal to another other level, with a new idea for batteries made from trees, according to new findings published in Nature.
Lithium-ion batteries (锂电池) have become the new form of rechargeable batteries thanks to their extraordinarily long charge. You’re probably reading this story from a device powered by such a battery. Most electric cars like ones made by Tesla use lithium-ion batteries.
These batteries use a liquid solution that conducts lithium ions from the battery’s cathode and anode (阴极和阳极), but the liquid is not what helps ensure electrical power goes from the battery to the device it’s powering. The problem is that this liquid is made of harmful materials that are sometimes unstable. They sometimes have explosive results. A solid conducting structure would prevent this from happening, but it could be likely to crack and break, making the battery useless.
An ideal material for solid state lithium-ion batteries would be thin and flexible to resist structural stresses, and it is wood from a tree. The team in charge of the new research developed a mixed material made of copper (铜) and fibers coming from wood. They tested it out as a model for conducting ions back and forth in a lithium-ion battery, and found it works 10 to 100 times better than other solid-state conductors-a record high.
The new findings are just based on basic model tests, and a rechargeable battery made of trees is still quite a way off. But if it passes test as a practical form of energy, it can very well replace rechargeable batteries. It is not hard to imagine electric cars having better sales for their real green, but saying that their batteries are just made from trees is beyond our imagination.
28.How are engineers making electric cars greener according to the text
A.By improving the materials of batteries. B.By reducing lithium ion in the batteries.
C.By using liquid to conduct electric power. D.By producing more lithium-ion batteries.
29.What is the advantage of lithium-ion batteries
A.They contain eco-friendly liquid. B.Their charge lasts for a long time.
C.They offer electrical power stably. D.They are safe and unlikely to explode.
30.Why is wood chosen as the solid-state conductor
A.It is resistant to structural pressures. B.It is much thicker and less changeable.
C.Its copper and fibers conduct ions well. D.It proves to be a practical form of energy.
31.What can we infer about batteries made of trees from the last paragraph
A.They have taken effect for a long time. B.They are still being tested at present.
C.They will never replace current batteries. D.They will make electric cars hard to sell.
D
The connection between people and plants has long been the subject of scientific research. Recent studies have found positive effects. A study conducted in Youngstown,Ohio, for example, discovered that greener areas of the city experienced less crime. In another, employees were shown to be 15% more productive when their workplaces were decorated with houseplants.
The engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT)have taken it a step further changing the actual composition of plants in order to get them to perform diverse, even unusual functions. These include plants that have sensors printed onto their leaves to show when they’re short of water and a plant that can detect harmful chemicals in groundwater. "We’re thinking about how we can engineer plants to replace functions of the things that we use every day,"explained Michael Strano, a professor of chemical engineering at MIT.
One of his latest projects has been to make plants glow(发光)in experiments using some common vegetables. Strano’s team found that they could create a faint light for three-and-a-half hours. The light, about one-thousandth of the amount needed to read by,is just a start. The technology, Strano said, could one day be used to light the rooms or even to turn trees into self-powered street lamps.
In the future, the team hopes to develop a version of the technology that can be sprayed onto plant leaves in a one-off treatment that would last the plant’s lifetime. The engineers are also trying to develop an on and off"switch"where the glow would fade when exposed to daylight.
Lighting accounts for about 7% of the total electricity consumed in the US. Since lighting is often far removed from the power source(电源)-such as the distance from a power plant to street lamps on a remote highway-a lot of energy is lost during transmission(传输).Glowing plants could reduce this distance and therefore help save energy.
32.What is the first paragraph mainly about
A.A new study of different plants. B.A big fall in crime rates.
C.Employees from various workplaces. D.Benefits from green plants.
33.What is the function of the sensors printed on plant leaves by MIT engineer
A.To detect plants’ lack of water B.To change compositions of plants
C.To make the life of plants longer. D.To test chemicals in plants.
34.What can we expect of the glowing plants in the future
A.They will speed up energy production. B.They may transmit electricity to the home.
C.They might help reduce energy consumption. D.They could take the place of power plants.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Can we grow more glowing plants B.How do we live with glowing plants
C.Could glowing plants replace lamps D.How are glowing plants made pollution-free

From Apple's Siri to self-driving cars, AI brings to society something new, But in fact, its not a fashion at all. Now let’s take a look at the long journey of AI’s development together. In 1950, the UK AI computer scientist Alan Turing made the Turing test. Although the test failed, it began a new age in the history of AI. Sixteen years later, the “first electronic person" of AI, Shakey, appeared. It can understand orders. In 1997, IBM's Deep Blue shocked the world by beating the No. 1 chess player. Seven years later Microsoft's Xiaolce showed us her special imagination and creativity. Just like us, she could write her own poems and put them together as Sunshine Misses Windows, a book of poems.
Can AI go much further The answer is yes. In 2017, the robot Sophia became a real “man” of Saudi Arabia. And last year, she even started to work as a teacher for a Chinese education group.
