Text 10
Hello, everyone,I’m Monica.I’m from New Zealand.New Zealand is an amazing tourist resort. For people going to New Zealand, there are three or four places that they must see.It depends on what you’re looking for really.
A lot of people that come to New Zealand enjoy an outdoor lifestyle,so there are lots of outdoor activities and places you can go to enjoy. In particular, there are two ice mountains there. You can visit them on foot,or pay for a helicopter ride that will show you a bird’s eye view of them.If you want to see rural New Zealand,it’s a good idea to drive through the country as you will be able to see the farms, particularly in the lower part of the South Island. There are a lot of sheep and cattle as well,so I think it’s a good idea to go for a drive and see them in person.Another thing I’d strongly recommend is to go to a city like Rotorua, which is in the center of the North Island,to experience Maori culture. There’s a Maori village and you can listen to Maori songs and see the hot springs and mud pools there.

Long ago, poems were recited out loud instead of being written down. When the Greeks first started the Olympics, they held poetry contests as well as athletic competitions.
Now,poetry competitions have been revived. This year 120,000 high school students competed in the first Poetry Out Loud national recitation contest, performing poems from memory for $100,000 in prizes.
The first competitions were held in classrooms. The winners went on to school-wide contests, and then they competed in city and state competitions. Finally, the 50 state champions, along with the District of Columbia champion, descended upon Washington D.C.,last week for the ultimate showdown. After the 51 champions competed against one another,12 went on to the finals. Then the field was narrowed to five. The final five had one last chance to “perform” a poem. The overall champ,Jackson Hille,a high school senior from Ohio, won a $20,000 scholarship.
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation started Poetry Out Loud because they realized that hearing a poem performed is a different experience from reading it on a page.
It’s not just a matter of saying the words in the right order. It’s the tone of voice, the pauses, the gestures, and the attitude of the person performing that bring the words to life.“Each time we hear somebody recite a poem,we understand again what we found fresh and interesting about it,” says National Public Radio broadcaster Scott Simon, master of ceremonies for the finals.Hearing it in a new voice offers something new to the listener.
Not only do the people hearing poems have a new experience, but memorizing and presenting poems helps the participants understand those poems in a new way.Another benefit of a competition such as Poetry Out Loud is that the participants learn public-speaking skills that can help them for life.

The idea that you can use humor, laughter, and play to make you healthier probably seems too simple to be true. However,it is really true and simple. The senses of humor, laughter and play play an important part in keeping you healthy.
Treat the blues with a sense of humor, which is closely tied to laughter.Laughter is infectious.Have you ever heard a big laugh of a young child and been able to keep yourself from smiling When laughter is shared between people,it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness When laughter is shared between people,it makes them closer to each other and increases their happiness.Smiling is the beginning of laughter and a smile is also just as infectious as laughter is.You can experience something by smiling at everyone around you,and you will feel happier just by sharing a smile, even with a stranger.
Play is an important part of making sure that we stay healthy. We are often encouraged to make sure our children play, and are told of the benefits of being out playing. However, what we often forget is that it is just as important for old people to make play be part of their life as it’s for children.Physical play is important for the old and it certainly helps prevent illness. While the studies are still in the early stages, the studies that have been done have shown that physical play certainly plays a part in preventing cognitive(认知的) falling.
Anyway, adding humor, laughter, and play to our life will influence us mentally, physically and socially and bring us many advantages. So we should make full use of humor, laughter and play to make our life more active, more interesting and happier.

The UNICEF(United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) report estimates that around one-third of the world’s youth—most in developing countries—are not online. For example,in Africa, only 40 percent of children are online. In Europe,by contrast,88 percent are online.
UNICEF reports that one in three Internet users around the world are children.Even though so many children are online, the organization says little is known about the effect of digital technology on children’s well-being.
More importantly, the report finds that little is being done to protect children from the dangers of the digital world. For example, many children around the world have a digital footprint before they can actually walk and make real footprints.Parents often post photos of their children and share stories about them. And a child’s medical records may be stored in the cloud.
As children grow, they may share additional details about themselves or photos and videos of themselves. But making all this personal information public may put a child at risk.Laurence Chandy,Director of Data,Research and Policy for UNICEF,explains that these risks include the misuse of children’s private information, access to harmful content and cyber-bullying.
Besides cyber-bullying,Laurence Chandy says children are also at risk from online criminal networks. These criminals target children for some of the worst forms of exploitation and abuse. He says safeguarding children’s privacy on the Internet is an issue of major concern.
“We really emphasize the importance of putting in place safeguards to prevent children’s personal data from falling in the wrong people’s hands and protecting their identities. This is an issue which is only going to grow in importance.”
Parents, caregivers, teachers and school administrators, businesses and policymakers need to work together to ensure safe access and protect children from the possible harm of a growing digital world.

53.A.mistake B.excuse
C.accident D.trouble
根据下文“...thinking that success and happiness come from someone setting a goal and then marching straight towards it.”
54.A.answer B.truth
C.condition D.privilege
根据前面所提到的一个错误观念及下文“...there is no straight path to success.”
55.A.willing B.proud
C.anxious D.ambitious
根据前文作者的经历及下文“to recalculate your route when you miss a turn or there is something in your way.”

between...and...
62.Though/While/Although 考查连词。
根据时间状语“for over a decade”可知,本句用现在完成时,且主语为第三人称单数,故填has studied。
65.that/which 考查定语从句。

In the popular imagination, the rise of self-driving cars will mean greener cities, safer roads, and happier workers. With technology, speeding, braking, and reaccelerating—which are responsible for much of the gas burned on roads, today and the resulting air pollution—would be a memory. But despite these opportunities, there are certain reasons why driverless vehicles may fail to live up to some of these expectations,or at least take a little while longer to achieve them.
First, truly automated technology—at least the kind that requires no human involvement—is rare in every sector of the economy, and there’s little reason to think driving will be any different. There is a permanent need for a human backup, which means human drivers will still bear the final responsibility for the cars they’re riding in.
A related challenge—particularly for driverless cars—is the complexity of the systems involved. For example, some cars today require over 100 million lines of software code(代码) to keep them running.More code means more functions, which,to some degree, also means more opportunities for software errors.Driverless cars raise a challenge in this regard and possibly cause more opportunities for errors—errors that can lead to accidents.
Yet the greatest challenge facing driverless cars isn’t technological, but psychological.Surveys consistently reveal global skepticism about the technology.Americans, for example, remain more worried than excited by driverless cars.Over half of the American public says they would not ride one given the opportunity. This shows a deep-seated lack of trust in the technology.Similar ideas have been expressed worldwide.
What’s more likely is that human drivers will continue applying some control over their cars, regardless of how automated those cars are. Some may quarrel with this idea. But automakers have long been preparing for it.Just ask Nissan,Waymo, and Zoo,all of which are exploring ways for human drivers to retake control of a car should automation fail.In other words, driverless does not—and will not—mean humanless.

24.From the first paragraph,we can know ________.
A.the Greeks were the first to write poems
B.the Olympics used to start with poem reciting
C.poems were spread orally in the past
D.athletes were asked to recite poems before competing
25.How many rounds of competitions did the champions take before they went to Washington D.C.
A.Three. B.Four.
C.Five. D.Six.
26.According to the passage, hearing a poem recited by different people can ________.
A.bring a new life to listeners
B.help listeners find their interest
C.make listeners learn the words
D.offer something new to listeners
27.One benefit the participants get from poem recitation competitions is that they can ________.
A.become skilled in speaking in public
B.write good poems themselves
C.change their attitudes towards life
D.make friends with many great poets

D.Let Our Body and Mind Relax

32.What can we probably know from the UNICEF report
A.Around two-thirds of the world’s youth are often online.
B.Digital technology develops faster in developing countries.
C.The influence on the health of children online is mentioned.
D.The number of youth online is larger than that of adults online.
33.What may be found about some children on the Internet
A.Their passwords.
B.Their parents’ footprints.
C.Their childhood stories.
D.Their academic records.
34.What can we infer from the passage
A.We don’t do much to safeguard children online.
B.Children like to post their family information online.
C.There’re chances for children online to break laws.
D.Criminals target the parents of children online for money.
35.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Cyber-bullying causes more dangers to the youth.
B.Digital technology can push the world to develop.
C.The digital world is mentally good but physically bad.
