Analysis of students Target students: Junior 3 studentsStudents' learning status: The target students are junior 3 students, who are capable of simple communication on familiar topics. They have learned English for more than two years and mastered the basic ability to understand and write articles on short and simple topics. They also do well in learning autonomously before class. Meanwhile, some of them lack learning enthusiasm in class and couldn’t write complete and logical sentences .Students' English proficiency: Gradually moving towards Level 5.Students' learning mood: Full of interest in talking about familiar topics in English learning and can say and write what they want to express.Knowledge of English: Students can use the basic writing skills of brainstorming, outlining, editing and revising to write their own articles on certain topics.
Teaching material analysis Analysis of textbooks for junior 3This textbook is the first volume of grade 9 published by People’ s Education Press. The whole textbook is in units, and each unit contains two parts. Section A mainly cultivates students’ listening and speaking ability, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and other teaching content learning activities. Section B focus on the cultivation of students’ reading and writing ability. Students can experience and perceive vocabulary and grammar through text learning, as well as the language structure and vocabulary to improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.Analysis of the unitThe topic of this unit is music and movies, which is a familiar topic for students. Through the learning of this unit, students can talk about their favorite kind of music and movies, express their preferences by using “relative clauses” with that, who and which.

Justifications:The video clip is set to draw students' attention to today’s topic and to stimulate their desire to learn more and write down their own ideas about the topic.By showing the names of the specific movie, it can remind students of what they have watched before and make them aware of what they are going to write next.By leading students to watch the pictures of the movie, the teacher not only intends on showing the key sentences to the students, but also draw their attention to the words that can be replaced by other advanced words: like /prefer/favor/fancy/be interested in etc. Also this activity can also stimulate their further interest to the content of the writing.By showing students some expression about showing preferences, the teacher intends on help them lay a foundation to the writing.
