Betty White, a longtime television star who enjoyed a second wave of popularity in her 90s, was best known for her roles on The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Before Betty White’s death at the age of 99 on New Year’s Eve, she was regularly asked to reveal her secret to living a long, happy life. Her answers often came in the form of humor. In 2011, the Golden Girls actress appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman and shared her “Top 10 Tips for Living a Long and Healthy Life.”“Try not to die,” White said. “Avoid tweeting any photos of your private parts,” and “get eight hours of beauty sleep — nine if you’re ugly”. The following year White told The New York Times that she was a “health nut” whose “favorite food is hot dogs with French fries. And my exercise — I have a two-story house and a very bad memory, so I’m up and down those stairs.”
However, there were times when White gave some more serious understanding about how mental health was really important in staying healthy. “First of all, keep busy and don’t focus everything on you. That wears out pretty fast. It’s not hard to find things you’re interested in, but enjoy them and get involved in them. And I think that keeps you on your toes,” she told journalist Katie Couric on her 95th birthday.
White would have turned 100 on Jan. 17, 2022 and for a People profile that was meant to celebrate her centennial year, the actress spoke about how she was feeling. “I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age,” she said. “It’s amazing.”

27.What did Betty White think difficult to keep mentally healthy

A young female athlete in the Philippines recently won many gold medals during a sports meet despite not having proper running shoes. Rhea Ballos, an 11-year-old student of Salvation Elementary School in Balason, Iloilo, was only wearing bandages around her feet when she competed at the Iloilo Schools Sports Meet.
Facebook user Valenzuela posted pictures of the girl with her feet wrapped in bandages bearing the famous Nike logo. Ballos even wrote the word “NIKE” on the sides of her “shoe” to complete the “Nike running shoes” look. The bandages were tightly wrapped around her feet, creating a thin protective layer against the track. While she was actually barefoot during the races, she was still able to defeat her competitors who all more proper footwear intended for running,
According to the post, Ballos bagged the top awards in the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, and the 1500-meter run in the girls' categories in the inter school sporting event held in Iloilo, central Philippines.
When pictures of her “Nike” footwear become popular, Flipinos on social media praised her. Many noted that instead of falling into self-pity, she was even able to make light of the situation by drawing the Nike logo on her “running shoes”. Some of the commenters of Valenzuela's post expressed how the girl deserved to be recognized by Nike and that the brand should actually give her a new pair of real Nike shoes. Others started getting in touch with the American sports brand, as well as local basketball specialty store Titan 22.
It did not take long for Titan co-founder and Alaska Aces head coach Jeffrey Cariaso to take notice of Ballos' outstanding achievement. Cariaso immediately made an effort to get in touch with the young track runner. The seven-time PBA champion has since talked to the student as well as her coaches in an apparent bid to help her out.
28.Why did Ballos wear bandages around her feet to compete
A.She couldn't afford to buy shoes. B.She wished to be noticed by Nike.
C.She wanted to draw public's attention. D.She thought it fashionable and unique.
29.What's people's attitude to Ballos' story
A.Surprised. B.Confused. C.Favorable. D.Doubtful.
30.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Ballos will be recognized by Nike. B.Ballos will be probably helped by Cariaso.
C.Ballos is bound to win more champions. D.Ballos will become a great basketball player.
31.Which of the following can best describe Ballos
A.Shy and lucky. B.Kind and brave. C.Clever and outstanding. D.Gifted and optimistic.

A hybrid electric vehicle (混合动力车) or HEV is a vehicle driven by the combination of petrol engine and electric motor. Terrence has been driving a HEV for five years. He really doesn’t understand why more people aren’t accepting them. “I probably spend about $ 7 a day on petrol,” the taxi driver told . au. In his previous conventional vehicle Terrence said he was spending up to $ 30 a day on petrol, meaning he saves almost $ 6000 every year.
The Toyota spokesman said this was quite a high saving and official tests estimate (估计) an average driver would only save about 33 percent off their current bill. This means a driver paying $ 30 a day on petrol would see their bill drop to about $ 20 using the hybrid. “A taxi driver that drives in built-up areas and spends little time on highways will notice a higher fuel saving,” he said. “Low speeds allow the electric motors to be used more and the petrol engine used less.”
While some people are skeptical about how reliable hybrids are, Terrence said he had never run out of power. His Camry cost about $ 34,000 and so after five years, it’s nearly paid for itself. “For cab drivers, it’s a real advantage because of the cost-effectiveness,” he said. Terrence has no complaints about the car. “I love it, the calm and quietness of it, the simplicity of it—you just jump in and go. The maintenance(保养)is really low. But the only difficulty is finding someone to service the car as there are not many experienced mechanics(机修工).”
Terrence said it’s “extraordinary” that more drivers aren’t buying more hybrid electric vehicles and that governments are not encouraging this more. “I think people have a view that you have to plug it in, which is not true. A lack of information about the cars may be stopping people from taking the plunge. It’s not promoted at all for the public to understand—it’s simplifying the actual owning of a car—you don’t have to do so many things to own it and run it, it’s just so much simpler. Why wouldn’t the government promote such a thing ”
32.How much does an average driver save each day by driving a hybrid, according to the Toyota spokesman
A.$ 30 B.$ 20
C.$ 10 D.$ 7
33.Terrence’s problem with his HEV at the moment is about the ________.
A.speed B.power
C.price D.service
34.When saying “extraordinary”, Terrence thinks it is ________.
A.understandable B.wonderful
C.doubtful D.unbelievable
35.What does Terrence think prevent the popularity of hybrid cars
A.The difficulty in servicing the car.
B.The restriction of the government.
C.The lack of information about HEV.
D.The inconvenience with charging the car.

Dear Fred,
I wonder if you could do me a favor and help with the preparation of the concert to be held in our school.
The concert aims to help foreign students learn more about Chinese traditional music. First, I’d appreciate it if you could help advertise it. Moreover, lacking some equipment, I sincerely hope you can contact the school music club so they can provide some for us. I wonder if it’s convenient for us to have a discussion together in our classroom tomorrow afternoon. With your generous help, I believe the concert will be unforgettable.
Thanks for your time and I’m looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Interesting. Shall we forget the sandwiches today and have lunch in a local restaurant
M: I suppose we could.
W: Come on, I’m hungry. We could try out that new place on the main street near our office. I fancy beef noodles.

M: What else does the book say

M: What makes “Songkran” so special that you want to go all the way to Thailand
W: Well, the Thai people consider the festival as a time to clean their homes. It is also when they dress up in colorful clothing. I learned from a storybook that the festival is famous because the Thai people have playful water fights with each other.

W: No. I think I want to do it because it will be a fantastic experience. I think it will make my spirit happy to be a part of such a wonderful time.
