I’ve learned to change. With my own car, I could go anywhere right away and at any time.
But now, my eyesight gets worse and I must plan ahead for 39 . No more popping out for

Giving up driving is 40 , and some of us never accept the loss. For me, however, it

As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only
amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger and success.
Working in space, spacemen are in danger of radiation(辐射)from the sun and other stars,
which is bad for their health. The damage(危害 ) done by radiation won’t be seen until their
children or even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but there is no
really helpful medicine.
Space junk is also a great danger to spacemen. It’s said that there are 9,000 man-made
things flying in space. About 30% of these are satellites(卫星), 10% are spaceships, and the rest
are space junk. An explosion in 1996 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments(碎片 ), and even a
small piece of them would break a spaceship window. If the window of the spaceship breaks, the
results are almost unimaginable. Spacemen may face the danger of death. Scientists are watching
and reporting any possible danger all the time to ensure the safety of spacemen.
Although space is really dangerous, it interests everyone on Earth. In the near future, it may
become usual for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave
Earth and live in space in a few years.
Recently, some international companies are investing in space travel projects. If human
beings could travel in space, what a wonderful experience it would be!
44. Space junk and radiation in space are dangerous to __________.
A. spacemen working in space B. people only on Earth
C. all the people except children D. scientists
45. The underlined word “explosion” probably means “_________” in Chinese.

47. We can know from the passage that the writer___________space trips.
A. hates B. supports C. dislikes D. distrusts

Nowadays, younger people are beginning to develop health problems, such as pains in the
neck, shoulders and lower back. There may be many reasons for this problem, but one of the
most important reason is that young people’s lives have changed a lot, especially for those who
live and work in large cities. They have to work very hard to get a foothold in big cities.
第 5 页/共 11 页
In the office, they often bow their heads and hunch their shoulders to stare at mobile phones
or sit in front of computer screens for a long time, so their shoulders, neck and lower back often
endure(承受) lots of strain, which produces(产生) pain over the long term.
Young people under great pressure(压力) at work like to joke that they have given all their
money to the hospital. Every day, young people account for about 60 percent of the visitors to
the hospital’s outpatient department(门诊部). They mostly visit from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. because
they need to work during the day, so they only have time in the late afternoon, evening or at
weekends.
“I think there are different reasons that most of the young people would choose our
hospital----the service, great treatment results and the fact that the cost is not that high here.”
Zhang Hua, a doctor from Ren’ai Hospital said.
“Fifteen years ago, the number of outpatient visits was not large, and we only had about 12
patients a day at weekends. Now, the number of outpatients is very large. We usually treat 30
patients every day.” Zhang Hua also felt the great pressure of being a doctor.
“As doctors, we also hope that everyone can be healthy. But I’m afraid that this situation
will not get better.”
48. Why do younger people have more and more health problems
A.Because they don’t care about health.
B. Because their life and working styles have changed greatly.
C.Because they don’t work and just play games every day.
D.Because they don’t stand or sit properly.
49. Among the people who go to the outpatient department, __________.
A. they are all young people.
B. half of them are young people.
C. 60% of them are young people.
D. 60% of them are old people.
50. Which of the following statements is TRUE
A. Young people don’t see a doctor in the morning as they are lazy.
B. Ren’ai Hospital is popular with many young patients.
C. Many young people choose Ren’ai Hospital just for a low cost.
D. Zhang Hua is the best doctor in Ren’ai Hospital.
51. From this passage, we can infer that_______________.
A. All costs in hospitals will be lower and lower.
B. The number of outpatients is quite large now.
C. Young people will choose a healthier lifestyle at present.
D. Young people in big cities may face more health problems.

When I was in high school, I worked part-time helping my dad sell fruits and vegetables at

a market. One day, as I was preparing the fruits, a little boy came by with his mom and sister. He
was about eight years old, and the girl, six or seven. They were looking at the fruits in front of
me.
Just when I wanted to go up and ask him if he needed help, I heard the kids say “They’re
good!” to their mom in French. I knew it was French because I can speak and understand it.
Then I noticed how the mom was picking the fruits. At first, I thought she was really
looking at the fruits because she was facing them. But then, I noticed how much she had to feel
and smell each one as she picked them out. But one thing’s strange that she often asked her son
if it looked okay. I suddenly understood her special situation.
Both of the kids continued to help their mom pick out the fruits. The son made sure the
fruits were not bad from the surface, and the daughter handed them to her mom. The woman
then felt each one and smiled, and the daughter would put them into their basket. The mother
often gently touched the two children’s heads with her hands, and I can see the look of happiness
on their faces.
Their smile and gentle manner moved me in a way that never happened before. It was so
touching to see such a loving family. Most kids that age would be choosing candies or toys in a
store for themselves, instead of helping their mom pick out fruits as the two kids did. In the same
way, the mother’s love for her children also defeated (打败) the suffering that life brought to her.
It was great to see the moment with my own eyes, but not so great because I didn’t tell them
how beautiful they were in their language at that time. This is what I feel sorry to this day.
52. The mother picked the fruits that she want by____________.
A. looking at them
B. feeling them
C. asking her children to pick them
D. feeling and smelling them with her children’s help
53. Which of the following is NOT true

C.The children are unwilling to help their mother pick fruits.
D.The mother is blind.

Have you experienced the feeling of falling as you start to fall asleep If 75 ,

In fact, these muscle twitches (肌肉抽搐) in the arms, legs or other parts of the body are
called hypnic jerks (入睡抽动) or sleep starts. And they are very 76 . Up to 70 percent
of people experience them sometimes, The Huffington Post reported. But why
Some scientists believe that the feeling of falling comes from the body relaxing 77 ,
especially if the person is anxious or unable to get comfortable. As you’re about to sleep, your
muscles become relaxed. But your brain stays awake. It misunderstands the relaxing of your
muscles as a sign that you’re falling. The brain then wakes up the 78 as if it’s trying
to protect you.
79 scientists believe that different periods of sleep might be the cause. When we
sleep, we experience two periods: non-rapid eye movement (NREM, 非快速眼动睡眠期) and
rapid eye movement (REM, 快速眼动睡眠期). 80 REM, our heart beat, breathing
and nervous system can act irregularly (不规律地). If the body 81 moments of REM
while starting to fall asleep, these irregularities could cause twitches.
If you don’t want to experience hypnic jerks, scientists have some suggestions. When you
become deeply relaxed, you can move your fingers and toes a little bit. Then start to move your
head and open your eyes, as you get out of the relaxed state.
But experts agree that 82 hypnic jerks are sometimes scary, they are not bad for
us. If it wakes you up, simply go back to sleep. But keep in mind: coffee, exciting evening
activities or stress may make hypnic jerks happen more often.

I ’m Gina. I come from the USA, but now I live in London with my family. Five months
ago, I moved to this city. At first, I had no friends and I felt very lonely. Later, I made
friends with some boys and girls, and now I am more outgoing. Last Saturday, I did some
volunteer work with some of my friends. In the morning, we first cleaned up the city park.
Then we gave out some notices about saving animals. We also put up some signs about saving
water. In the afternoon, I asked uncle Tom to help me repair my broken bike. He cannot hear
anything, but he is very clever. I think helping others can give us a strong feeling of
satisfaction. Do you think so
