Kate Bowler had it all. She was married in her 20s, had a baby in her 30s and landed her dream job teaching at Duke University. Then she was told at age 35, when her son had just turned 1 year old, that she had incurable cancer.
Bowler is giving her cancer treatment, and hopefully it will keep her cancer at bay, but she is not sure if she has months or even weeks left. Bowler has generously shared her insights(深刻见解) in a recent essay. She wrote that she began each New Year as most of us do with a wish list in hand, but those wishes are just things we plan to do in the weeks or months to come. Cancer has taught her to make the most of whatever time she has left rather than keep thinking about the past or future.
When I first worked with terminal(晚期的) cancer patients in my early 20, I took it for granted(认为……理所当然) that I could reward myself with a nice meal after work. When caring for patients, most of whom were confined(限制) to their beds all day and many of whom found it hard to keep food down, I learned to stop taking such simple pleasures for granted.
It is always believed that love is more powerful than suffering or death. And Bowler's focus on her husband and son even in the face of suffering and death proves that truth. She begged her sister-in-law to tell her husband to remarry if she died because she didn't want her death to end his life as well. Bowler wrote, "Life is so beautiful. Life is so hard." She experienced both sides of that when she noticed an elderly gentleman lovingly touching his wife's hair as she received her treatment in the hospital.
4. What was Bowler's life like before the age of 35
A. Satisfying. B. Uncertain. C. unusual. D. Hard.
5. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Beyond reach. B. Under control. C. On guard D. In sight
6. What made the author start to value the simple pleasures of life
A. The hope for awands and praise.
B. The training in cancer treatment.
C. The suffering of terminal cancer patients.
D. The difficulty in looking after cancer patients.
7. What impressed Bowler during her treatment in the hospital
A. The support from family matters a lot in hard times.
B. Life also contains beauties in spite of the hardships.
C. The pain of cancer patients is unbearable.
D. Life is full of uncertainties and difficulties.

It has been almost six and a half years since the American music group Pearl Jam published its tenth album. That changed Friday when the band dropped its eleventh collection, Gigaton. Critics (批评家) have noted that this new album includes hard rock. Entertainments Weekly called the music "a gathering storm of guitars". In other words, there is some loud and wild music on Gigaton. But most reviewers agree that Pearl Jam continues to experiment with less traditional rock and roll sound on the album.
But back to the name of the album—Gigaton can also mean the weight mass equal to 1 billion tons. The word is most often used these days in stories related to climate (气候) science and environmental damage. In fact, former U. S. President Barack Obama famously defined the word during a 2015 speech about climate change in Alaska and the Arctic. When discussing the huge yearly loss of ice from Alaska's glaciers, he compared the amount to the size of the national Mall in Washington, D.C. as if it were a solid (固体的) block that stood almost 700 meters tall.
And climate change issues are at the heart of Pearl Jam's Gigaton. The album picture shows icefalls in Svalbard, Norway. Svalbard is one of the northernmost places where humans live in the world. Some climate scientists say it is warming faster than any other place. Pearl Jam has devoted most of its 30-year existence to environmental causes. The band and its members have won honors for raising money, climate change educational efforts and more. They also put money into environmental health projects to reduce the group's carbon footprint.
Pearl Jam was officially introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. The lead singer Eddie Vedder's opening comments were about the environment. "So, climate change is real," he said. "And we...cannot...cannot be the generation that history will look back upon and wonder, why didn't they do everything humanly possible to solve this biggest danger in our time."
8. What can we know about the new album Gigaton
A. It contains more loud music. B. It receives fans' high praise.
C. It is pearl Jam's tenth album. D. It has new musical elements.
9. Why are Barack Obama's words mentioned
A. To give a definition of Gigaton.
B. To call on people to focus on glaciers.
C. To show the influence of climate change.
D. To explain the character of Alaska's glaciers.
10. What do the members of Pearl Jam always try to do
A. Fund healthcare projects. B. Team climate scientists up.
C. Fight against climate change. D. Build residences in Svalbard.
11. What is the best title of the text

B. Gigaton: a Gathering Storm of Guitars
C. Pearl Jam: an Influential Band in the World
D. A New Album Rocks Hard on Climate Change

Ford is showing its first all-electric sport utility vehicle, or SUV—the Mustang Mach-E, marking a major change in the U. S. car industry. The new Mustang can travel between 370 and 480 kilometers before needing an electrical charge.
There are 18 electric vehicle models for sale in the U. S. The research group IHS Markit expects that number to grow to 80 by 2022. New vehicles will include pickup trucks and SUVs that are popular with American buyers.
Last year, electric vehicles made up only 1.5 percent of new vehicle sales worldwide. Auto Industry research company LMC Automotive predicts that will rise to 2.2 percent this year. In the U.S., electric vehicles were only 1.2 percent of sales in 2018. It is expected to be the same this year. Automakers, however, see room for growth. They note that electric vehicles are getting 250 miles or more on a single charge. That means a buyer no longer needs to worry about running out of power during a day's usual drive. Because of the added models and increased power, LMC predicts that they will make up 17 percent of worldwide sales and 7 percent of U.S. sales in 2030.
The first-generation of electric vehicles were simply existing models that were changed to be electric to meet government fuel economy rules. They did not sell well largely because they could not travel more than 100 miles between charges. But now, many can go farther than the average one-day driving distance. The five-passenger Mach-E looks like a traditional Mustang. Engineers say the least costly model will be able to travel about 370 kilometers on one charge. The most costly model will be able to travel 483 kilometers.
Some experts say the Mustang Mach-E marks the start of an increase in electric vehicles offered by top U. S. carmakers. However, some are not so positive. Stephanie Brinley, an auto expert for IHS Markit, said electric vehicle choices may expand before demand. "There is likely to be a period where the number of choices will increase faster than demand and sales for each will be low," she said.
12. What is IHS Markit's expectation of the electric vehicle
A. It has more models.
B. It goes on sale soon.
C. It is more environment-friendly.
D. It is more popular with customers.
13. What do the numbers in paragraph 3 show about electric vehicles
A. There will be increasing demand for SUVs.
B. There will be large growth space for their sales.
C. There will be more pressure on their power supplies.
D. There will be more competition between automakers.
14. How did the author develop the fourth paragraph
A. By giving examples. B. By introducing new ideas.
C. By following time order. D. By making comparisons.
15. What's Stephanie Brinley's attitude towards electric vehicles' future
A. Positive. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent.

Mrs. Palin spoke as she walked to the front of the classroom, "Next Wednesday, I'll give you a test to check your ability as a conductor. Now, select one of the composers listed on the blackboard. And after class, find a tape containing the composition created by the composer. During the test, use the tape player to play the composition. When the music starts, imagine you are the conductor of an orchestra(管弦乐队) that performs the composer's music."
And then she smiled, "You'll receive the test in front of your classmates."
"What A test in front of the classmates It will kill me," I said to myself. Although normally I perform well in music, and often have high marks, I am quite a shy girl. After a short while, I took a deep breath and looked through the list of names on the blackboard. One name caught my attention.
"Who's that person " I wondered. I didn't know, but that was going to be my choice. Seated in the classroom, I fixed my eyes on that name anxiously, hoping no one would announce that name. Finally, it was my turn. I said without a second thought, "Johannes Brahms." Once I said the name, panic washed over me. I sighed, "How am I going to do this I know nothing about the person and his composition. But I have to perform in front of my classmates and teacher."
Later in the day, I went to a store and bought a tape that contained Johannes Brahms's compositions and its relevant music notation(符号). Back home, I played the tape, and tried to get familiar with the composition. When listening to the composition and looking at the music score, I held a stick and moved my arms to and fro(来回地), pretending to be guiding an orchestra. During the following days, I kept practicing but didn't perform quite well. The composition was indeed hard for me.
When the big day came, I felt nervous as I slipped into my seat and waited for my turn to perform. Eventually, Mrs. Palin called my name, "Jill, it's your turn."

Then, I forced myself to walk to the front of the classroom.

故填and。
3. a place to do sth. 故填to learn。
故填is regarded。
故填on/about。
Tai'an Old Street Scenic Area,表示地点,从句中缺少地点状语,因此用关系副词where引导该从句。故填where。
故填its。
37. Then, I forced myself to walk to the front of the classroom. Standing in front of all the students made me very nervous, and my legs kept shaking. To make the matter worse, my brain went blank at that very moment, forgeting my previous practice. However, I tried to remind myself to be calm. After a few deep breaths, I felt much better and began to perform. Thinking my conduct must be terrible, I was even unwilling to think about the result.
The next day, Mrs. Palin handed each student a piece of paper with a score. With my report card in hand, my heart pounded because I was afraid that I would be the one who got the lowest score. I closed my eyes and slowly opened my report card. To my surprise, I got a high score. When the teacher announced that I was the best in my class, I almost jumped with joy. I understood that only by working hard, can we get good results.
