I have tried to write a ghost story that won’t make you unhappy with yourselves, with each other, with seasons, or with me. I hope it haunts your houses pleasantly.
Charles Dickens
One Christmas Eve, old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. It was a cold, foggy day. The fog was so thick that the houses opposite were like ghosts. It was only three o’clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.
“Merry Christmas, Uncle! God bless you!” cried a happy voice. It was Scrooge’s nephew (侄子).
“Bah!” said Scrooge. “Humbug (骗人的话)! ”
“Christmas is a humbug! Surely you don’t mean that, uncle.” said his nephew.
“I do.” said Scrooge “Merry Christmas! What reason have you got to be merry You are poor.”
“OK, then,” replied the nephew cheerfully. “What reason have you got to be sad You are rich. Don’t be angry, Uncle!” said his nephew.
“What else can I be ” answered the uncle. “I live in a world of fools! Merry Christmas! What’s Christmas time to you It’s a time for paying bills without money. It’s time for finding yourself a year older, but not richer. Everyone who goes around saying “Merry Christmas” should have his tongue cut out. Yes, he should!”
“Uncle! Please don’t say that!” said the nephew. “I’ve always thought of Christmas time as a good time, a kind, and a charitable happy time. And so, Uncle Christmas has never put any gold or silver in my pocket, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good. And I say, God bless it!”
Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded (鼓掌). He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.
“One more sound from you. Bob Cratchit,” said Scrooge, “and you’ll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!”
“Don’t be angry with him, e and have dinner with us tomorrow.”
“No.” said Scrooge.
“I’m sorry you don’t want to cerebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!”
“Good afternoon!” said Scrooge.

One evening after dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Tisich called a family meeting. “We’ve had to make a difficult decision,” Mr. Tisich announced. “You see, your mother has been offered a post as co-director of a television station in Chicago. Unfortunately, the station is not here. After thinking long and hard about it, we’ve concluded that the right decision is to move to Chicago. ”
Marc looked shocked, while his sister Rachel breathlessly started asking when they’d be moving. “It’s surprising, but exciting!” she said. Marc simply said, “We can’t go—I can’t leave all my friends. I’d rather stay here and live with Tommy Lyons!”
The Tisichs hoped that by the time they moved in August, Marc would grow more used to the idea of leaving. However, he showed no signs of accepting the news, refusing to pack his belongings.
When the morning of the move arrived, Marc was nowhere to be found. His parents called Tommy Lyon’s house, but Mrs. Lyons said she hadn’t seen Marc. Mrs. Tisich became increasingly concerned, while her husband felt angry with their son for behaving so irresponsibly.
What they didn’t know was that Marc had started walking over to Tommy’s house, with a faint idea of hiding in Lyons’s attic(阁楼) for a few days. But something happened on the way as Marc walked past all the familiar landscape of the neighborhood: the fence that he and his mother painted, the tree that he and his sister used to climb, the park where he and his father often took evening walks together. A green classroom used to be a classroom whose walls were green. But today’s green classrooms are “greener” than that! New “green” classrooms help schools save money and provide clean environment where students learn better.
Many classrooms are going green by adding solar panels (太阳能电池板) to their roofs. The solar panels collect energy from the sun and use it to power lights and computers.
The panels help create at least as much electricity (电力) as the classrooms use. They can also cut down the cost of energy.
Many new “green” classrooms are built by using recycled things. Green schools have other new ideas. Some classrooms are painted with special paint that helps improve indoor air quality (质量). Some use windows that help keep classrooms warm in cold weather and let in lots of natural daylight. Others no longer use glue that adds chemical (化学的) smells to the air.
Experts (专家) say that green classrooms are good for education. Studies show that the environment with good air can cut colds and flu by more than 50 percent. That means fewer sick days for students and teachers. Studies have also shown that natural light and other green features (特点) improve students’ learning and marks in tests, too.

Once upon a time, there lived a girl in ancient China named Mulan. Her father was too old and weak to fight, but not too old to teach her how to ride a horse and use a sword. Trees are one of the oldest “citizens” of our Earth. They keep our air clean, reduce noise pollution, improve water quality and provide food and building materials.
Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At 1 to 3 years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns (刺) to warn animals not to go near. Most young trees have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.
When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very rapidly and become strong enough to face challenges later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit. It is not until the tree is 20 to 25 years old that it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. The adult tree gives us shade, oxygen and natural beauty; it is also a great place for a tree house, or a place for us to read a book, listen to music and so on. If we give the adult tree proper care, it will go on to live healthily for many years.
Gradually, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important place in nature. When a tree becomes hollow or part of it becomes dead, it provides a home for small animals and is a source of food for many other animals.
In many ways, the life of a tree is similar to our own life experience. When we are looking at the life of a tree, we learn about that each period of life brings its own form of joy and challenge. Life is hard but the value of life is how you live it bravely. A man who overcomes himself is a real strong man in life. Don’t give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Enjoy every minute of the life of the trees as well as ours!

B.Because trees devote all their lifetime to satisfying people and protecting the Earth.

D.Because life is becoming better and better with so many beautiful and useful trees.
The reviews below are about the film The Silver Glove.
Angela Moore
I just love this fast—moving pirate (海盗)film. The story moves at a high speed from one frightening (令人惊悚的) fight scene (场景) to the next. You really feel as if you are on the ships with these pirates. The main pirate is given all the best and most humorous lines. The film has laughs as well as frightening moments.
Max Court
I enjoyed this film very much. The film is directed with great skills and invention by German Dieter Muller. There are a lot of surprises in the story to keep us guessing until the last minute. Some clever jokes give the film a surprising level of humor too, which I really didn’t expect from a film about pirates.
Deborah MeGhee
The Silver Glove promises much but shows very little. The opening scene, filmed in a storm of lightning and high waves, is an exciting start. But as the film takes you from one fight to another, it starts to seem boring. Actress Patricia Groves plays the doctor wonderfully.

Goldfish have long been a popular family pet. However, there is a growing problem associated with these lovely fish.
Many people are buying goldfish home, while many people are setting goldfish free. One survey of people in Texas found that nearly 60% fish owners put their fish into lakes.
Goldfish can grow very large. As a result, the number grows quite quickly, and there is not enough food for the rest of the fish in the lake. Such is the case in West Medical Lake.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says that it can cost up to $150,000 to take away the foreign species(物种)from the lake. It’s such a serious problem that they are considering making setting goldfish free into the wild a crime(犯罪)and prosecuting(起诉)those responsible(有责任的).
“If they get caught doing that and get prosecuted, they could have to pay for solving the problem they created,” said Randy Osborne, a fish biologist from the department.
So what should you do if you no longer want your pet fish Well, if you can’t find a willing friend or family member to help care for them, call your local pet shop or animal shelter. You might also join a goldfish club in your town or on Face book, if your fish are ill, do not put these sick fish into the wild or throw them into your toilet. “A sick fish can introduce harmful things like the disease into water,” wrote Pet Helpful, a website sharing knowledge on pets. “Keeping our waterways clean and safe is important for future generations(代).”

How do you feel about nature After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However. humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10 of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.
As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr. Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a maths test. During the test, their heart rate (心率), were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group.
The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life. In Dubai (迪拜), for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden, so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. Schoolchildren study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. And South Korea (韩国) is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.

Argentina in the late nineteenth century was an exciting place. Around 1870, it was experiencing an economic boom (经济繁荣), and the capital Buenos Aires, attracted many people. Farmers, as well as many foreigners from Spain and Italy, came to Buenos Aires looking for jobs. These jobs didn’t pay well, and the people felt lonely with their new life in the city. As the unhappy newcomers mixed together in the poor parts of the city, the dance known as the tango came into being.
At the beginning, the tango was a dance of the lower classes (阶级). It was danced in the bars and streets. At that time women were fewer than men, so if a man didn’t want to be left out, his only choice was to dance with another man so that he could attract the attention of the women. Gradually, the dance spread into the upper classes of Argentinean society and became more respectable.
In Europe at this time, strong interest in dance from around the world was beginning. The interest in international dance was especially strong in Paris. Every kind of dance from ballet to belly dancing could be found in Paris theaters. After tango dances from Argentina arrived in Europe, they began to draw the interest of the public as they performed their exciting dance in cafes. Though not everyone liked the new dance, the dance did find enough supporters to make it popular.
The popularity of the tango continued to grow in many other parts of the world. Soldiers who returned to the United States from World War I brought the tango to North America. I reached Japan in 1926, and in 2003 a tango dancer of South Korea was hired to act as a kind of dance ambassador (大使) and push for tango dancing throughout South Korea.

During my first year of high school, I was a skinny (干瘦的) boy who weighed just 55 kg. I dreamed of being a football star. I played a little bit, but spent most of my time on the bench.
Over the summer, I found a special diet that bodybuilders use to bulk up. Drinking a lot of whole milk and lifting weights every day added an extra 11 kg of muscle (肌肉).
By the time football season started, I felt ready. I was soon disappointed, though, when I saw that I was still smaller and slower than most of the other boys. I found myself on the bench again.
That was to change during one of our first games of the season. We had built up a lead and the coach felt secure (放心的) enough to send me in for a while to play halfback (前卫). I was so excited.
On the very first play, I met with challenges. When the quarterback (四分卫) handed the ball off to me, I thought it was my time to show off. However, I was soon hit by three of the other team’s players. They tackled (擒抱并摔倒) me hard to the ground. I got up and walked off the field, back to the bench.
Over the years. I have lost count of how many times I have dreamed of achieving something, only to find that the world had other plans. I hated this for a long time. It was not until I became a football commentator (评论员) that I finally realized that maybe the world’s plans for me are better than my own.
