一、阅读单选(共0分)
①Anger(生气)often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child’s anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to reduce this feeling, parents will often encourage children to “stop crying” and say things like “It’s nothing to cry about.” It’s moments like these that plant the seeds(种子)of unhealthy anger. If a child never sees his or her parent express anger, he or she should never express anger, either. But if a parent always expresses their anger loudly, the child may think of anger as something that he is always afraid of. So we should learn how to create healthier anger in our kids.
②The first thing you can do to create healthier anger in your children is to practice creating healthier anger in yourself. Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids.
③Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong. You may feel bad when you believe you are wrong. When children express their feelings and are told that it’s nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad.
④We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kid expresses anger, help them find out what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry How did it do that Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of our feelings are in our control.
⑤Anger is natural and common, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.

About a week after Glenda and Raphi Savitz welcomed their daughter Samantha to the world, they learned that she was deaf. “We knew right away that we had to start learning American Sign Language,” Glenda says.
What the new parents didn’t know was that their neighbors in Newton, Mass, would decide they needed to start learning sign language, too.
The Savitzes had moved to their neighborhood—a community of about 100 houses, on a peninsula(半岛)in the Charles River—just three months earlier. It’s a place where most families have lived for many years. When they moved in, Glenda says a neighbor stopped by to send him a directory(电话号码簿)of everyone who lived in the neighborhood. She says their next-door neighbors called themselves “newcomers” to the area—and they had been there for 17 years. “It makes you think that this is a place people don’t want to leave,” Glenda says.
When young Samantha was out and about with her parents, neighbors like Jill McNeil were sad that they couldn’t talk to her. Soon McNeil with three other neighbors quietly attended local adult education classes in American Sign Language. “I asked our teacher Rhys McGovern if he would come here and teach more neighbors,” McNeil explains. “So that’s how it started.” 20 neighbors immediately went to the class.
The classes have been so popular that there are now two offerings, on two different weeknights, bringing the number of neighbors learning the language to about 40. Many of the students are older neighbors. But there are also younger parents, and two school-age girls.
As a result of that neighborly effort, Samantha, now 3, moves easily around the neighborhood. “It’s amazing that they’re signing to her,” says Raphi. “We’re just so thankful that we’re living around these wonderful people,” he says.
And they’re not the only ones who say they’re thankful. “We are really enjoying the whole process, not only the learning of American Sign Language, but the learning together,” says MeNeil. “It’s made our neighborhood a closer place.”
9.What did Glenda think of the new community at first
A.It’s giving special attention to education. B.It’s mainly made up of newcomers.

C.To help her family know neighbors better. D.To continue a tradition in the neighborhood.
12.What can we say about the class
A.It needs old neighbors’ support. B.It is difficult for most neighbors.
C.It is popular among the neighbors. D.It mainly attracts younger students.
13.What did learning American Sign Language bring to the neighborhood according to McNeil
A.Better living conditions. B.Stronger ties among neighbors.
C.An open mind to deaf people. D.An increase in learning new skills.
Take a selfie(自拍) in space

Hot and hungry insects
Global warming is having many side effects(副作用). “It is even causing insects to eat more crops,” the Atlantic reported. Higher temperatures can increase the insects’ metabolism(新陈代谢). This makes them eat more and also breed(繁殖) more quickly.

Learning music can improve children’s language skills, according to scientists from MIT. Children who learn a musical instrument, especially piano, are more sensitive(敏感的) to different tones(音调). This helps them learn words better.

Even more confused, the shopkeeper asked, “But your feet are always with you. Why didn’t you just try the shoes on ”
The wise man said, “All the books say shoes must be bought with the exact same measurements of the shoes you already own.”

①After winning the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, China has been trying hard to hold a high-tech Winter Games. Now, as the Games are coming nearer, viewers can learn how innovative technologies are being used, especially in building venues(体育比赛场馆).
②For example, how the National Aquatics Center, also known as the “Water Cube(立方)”, was turned into the “Ice Cube”. The “Water Cube” was built to host aquatic(水上运动的) events for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Now, the stadium will also host the curling(冰壶) events for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games.
③The main change is to turn the swimming pool into a four-lane curling rink(冰场). According to Xinhua, the transformation(转变) will be completed by using a quick-disassembly(快速拆卸) system. Simply put, the water will be drained(抽干) from the pool and then a convertible frame(可移动的支架) will be built and put inside. The frame is made up of 2,600 H-shaped steel columns(钢柱) and has a height of three meters and a length of two meters, China News Service reported.
④Such transformation is an example of China’s mission(使命) to hold a “Green Games” by using sustainable(可持续的) technology for its Olympics venues.
⑤Another major technology can be seen at the National Speed Skating Oval(NSSO). The stadium is also known as the “Ice Ribbon(丝带)”. It is the only newly-built ice spots venue for the Games.
⑥Traditionally, freon(氟利昂), which is harmful to the environment, was used in the ice-making process. But NSSO uses an environmentally friendly technology which uses carbon dioxide(CO2) to make ice. For “Ice Ribbon” with an ice surface area of 12,000 square meters, the effect of using the new technology in reducing carbon emissions(排放) is the same as planting over 1.2 million trees, People’s Daily reported. The new technology will also be used in other stadiums including the Capital Indoor Stadium and Wukesong Sports Center.

Close your eyes and picture a scientist. Does an image of a man show up in your mind
It is hard to ignore that even in the 21st century, the “scientist equals male” stereotype(成见) is still there. In the science world, women’s voices are often unheard.
According to UNESCO, only 35 percent of global STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students in higher education are women. In pursuing science and technology careers, women are more likely to be treated unfairly because of their motherhood and skin color, noted Teen Vogue.
In November, at the 4th World Laureates Forum(世界顶尖科学家论坛) held in Shanghai, some of the world’s top female scientists announced an initiative(倡议), encouraging institutions around the world to promote gender equality(性别平等) in STEM areas.
“Role models of women scientists need to be better represented on important international stages and allow their voices to be heard as a way to encourage youths,” Lenore Blum, a female scientist from the US, said at the forum.
In December, Talk With Lu Jian, a Chinese TV show, launched a series of programs under the title of She Power in Tech. The show interviewed Chinese female scientists, including geneticist(遗传学家) Fu Qiaomei at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lü Zhi, a professor of life sciences at Peking University, and Rong Yi, a chief designer of the Long March 2F rocket.
“These female scientists share a strong passion for science,” said Lu Jian, the TV show’s host. “They are making a pathway(通道) for the next women scientists.”
Actions should also be taken to create a better environment for women working in the field of science and technology, noted Science and Technology Daily. For example, they should be given more resources, join in decision-making and gain support for their research during maternity(生育).

Governments around the world are pushing for an end to plastic straws(吸管)and bags. More and more businesses are switching(转换)to paper products as an alternative(可供选择的事物). Paper is considered by many to be better than plastic. However, it is harmful to the environment, too.
Firstly, paper bags and straws are made from trees. Trees, as you know, can reduce carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere(大气). They can slow down climate change. An increase in the use of paper bags can cause more deforestation(毁林).
Secondly, the production of paper things requires more energy and water. About 10 percent more energy and four times as much water is used to produce a paper bag than a plastic one. You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process(过程)than to make a new paper bag. Products made from recycled paper are also often short-lived.
Furthermore, paper products are heavier than plastic ones. That means they require more fuel to transport. Seven trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags, while only one truck is needed to transport the same number of plastic bags. The increased weight also leads to a larger amount of waste once the bags are thrown away.
Paper products are actually a lose-lose for both the environment and businesses. They are more expensive than plastic products. A paper straw costs about 5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents. The most environment-friendly solution(解决办法)is to avoid single-use things altogether. Products like glass water bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic products. Through increasing the use of these items, you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our earth a greener place!
44.What can trees do to the environment
A.They can make carbon dioxide levels lower in the air.
B.They can improve climate quickly.
C.They can cause more deforestation in the end.
D.They can provide materials for paper products.
45.From Paragraph 4, we can know that ________.
A.plastic products are much better than paper ones
B.paper products are easy to transport
C.one truck is needed to transport two million plastic bags
D.plastic products often lead to a larger amount of a waste
46.Which is the following should people use in order to protect the environment
A.Recycled paper bags. B.Steel knives and forks.
C.Strong plastic chairs. D.Single-use cups.

A.To push for an end to plastic straws and bags.
B.To tell readers the disadvantages of paper products.
C.To push the use of environment-friendly products which can be recycled.
D.To introduce the importance of making our earth a greener place.
Have you ever found beauty in life, even during difficult times
Here’s a movie called Life Is Beautiful. The story happened in 1939. Guido, a young man, is a Jew. He’s funny and clever, and falls in love with an Italian girl named Dora. Later, they get married and have a son named Joshua and run a bookstore together.
Unluckily, German Nazis take them and many other Jewish families to a concentration camp. In the camp, Guido explains to Joshua that the camp is a game and he must perform the activities. Guido also tells his son each of the activities will give them points and the person who gets to 1,000 points will win a tank. The most moving part is that the people in the camp also keep the lie to themselves. Guido tries hard to protect Joshua’s innocence (天真). He even teaches all of the German children how to say “Thank you” in Italian. Though Nazis kill Guido at last, Joshua is alive when the allies (同盟军) arrives.
The film shows us how to protect those we love in the face of difficulties. As the French writer Romain Rolland once said, “There’s only one heroism (英雄主义) in the world: to see the world as it is and to love it.” And this best describes the life and actions of the hero, Guido.

In our busy society where food is readily available (可得到的) from delivery (递送) services and fast food restaurants, almost one in three American adults is now considered to be obese. Childhood obesity is also at an all-time high.
Obesity means very overweight. If you are obese, you have too much body-fat. Doctors define(定义) obesity as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher, and overweight as having a BMI of 25 to 30.
If you eat more food than your body can use, this will make you put on weight. Food that your body does not need as energy will be stored as fat by your body.
The following are the major factors that increase the risk of obesity.
What you eat plays a major role in weight gain. Eating a lot of fattening foods such as hamburgers, sweet drinks, ice creams and other sweet and fatty foods can increase the risk of becoming obese.
If you do not do enough exercise, you will put on weight as the food you eat is not being used to make energy for physical activities.
The chances of you being obese are greater if your parents are obese.
There are many psychological (心理的) factors that cause people to eat too much.
People who are stressed, unhappy or bored will often eat to make themselves feel better. This is known as comfort eating.
Age is another factor, as you tend to be less active when you get older. The amount of muscle in your body usually decreases (下降) as you get older and this causes the metabolism (新陈代谢) to slow down. As a result of these changes, you need to eat less, and if you do not eat less as you grow older, you will put on weight.
Obesity can cause many health disorders such as high blood pressure, diabetes (糖尿病), heart problems, cancer and many other serious medical conditions.
53.Which group of people do not become obese easily
A.Those whose parents are obese. B.Those who are often nervous at work.
