Part 1
Jenny was very happy.
Jenny couldn't resist her inner joy, flying into the door like a bird.
(Jenny
Simile
The country, covered with cherry tree flowers, looks as though it is covered with pink snow.
The smile on her face shone like a diamond.
The scenery along the Lijiang River in Guilin is just like a beautiful landscape painting.
His heart is as hard as a stone.
Her soul is as pure as snow.
●和as … as …
as soft as water
as pure as snow
as clear as crystal
as weak as water
as unique as a fingerprint
as drunk as a mouse
like a duck to water
like a drowned cat 落汤鸡
like a cat on hot bricks
like a rat in a hole
Metaphor
Life is a ship on the ocean meeting both sunny days and stormy days.
Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.
She is going through a roller coaster of emotions.
At once, the Eastern and Western Chang’an Roads became roaring oceans.
He has a heart of stone. He has a heart like stone.
a bed of roses 安乐窝
a mushroom millionaire 暴发户
Metonymy
The kettle boils.
The room sat silent.
Lend me your ears, please.
I had the muscle, and they made money out of it.
Synecdoche
There are about 100 hands working in his factory.(部分代整体)
He is the Newton of this century.(特殊代一般)
The fox goes very well with your cap.(整体代部分)
(明喻) Shenzhen is like a melting pot where new ideas are mixed.
(隐喻,暗喻) Shenzhen is a melting pot where new ideas are mixed.
经常有:like, as, as…as, as if。
Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork forced into a bottle. 这个句子中,就用到了明喻,“like a cork forced into a bottle”像软木塞进了瓶子里。
Paul looked out the back window and saw the wolf standing over Mac’s bike as if it were a kill.
The smile on her face shone like a diamond.
I feel like I am floating in an ocean of sadness.
你可能会用His face was cold.在这里,我们可以用上之前讲解过的“动作细化”原则,再加上今天学习的比喻,我们看看这个句子的效果如何?I reached out to touch her face, which was as cold as the ice.
Her hair was a flowing golden river streaming down her shoulders.
Stars winked at me in a darkening sky.
The forest is very dark.或者It’s dark in the forest. Immediately, an absolute darkness ruled the forest.
The church has witnessed the city's changes in the past 20 years.
Birds on the tree are singing a beautiful song.
The thunder clapped angrily in the distance.
The sun looks over the mountain’s rim.
The city gradually began to breathe again.
The wind howled in the night.
The flowers / The curtains danced in the gentle breeze.
The candle flame danced in the dark.
The moon is always so bright and bright, so people praise it with all kinds of words. As time goes on, the moon becomes proud.
I'm very shy, please don't touch me!
Outside the window, the wind blows the bamboo forest, playing a wonderful song. .
The flowers in the garden all lowered their proud heads.
The bridge stood there like an old man of high moral standing.
The beetles were carrying sand, exhausted one by one.
A yellow Oriole was crying freely on a stage-like tree.
The birch forest was blown by the wind and sang a song.
When the spring breeze blew, the wicker changed into a green dress.
第一句:My heart was broken 我心碎了。
My heart broke in about a million pieces.
好了,我已经猜到了,难道是it’s very cold. It was so cold that…When the men spoke, their words froze in the air. Everything they said remained frozen all winter long, and did not melt until spring.
The rabbit made me jump out of my skin. 我的“魂”竟然从皮肤里跳了出来jump out of my skin,是不是很夸张!
①My heart almost stopped beating when I heard my daughter's voice on the phone.
②I was so hungry that I could eat a horse.
③When she heard the bad news, a river of tears poured out.
My gray hair can make a long long rope.
When she heard the bad news, a river of tears poured out.
Her appearance fairly took my breath away.
Synaesthesia
The birds sat upon a tree and poured forth their lily like voice.(用视觉形容听觉,鸟落在树上,由它发出的声音联想到百合花)
Taste the music of Mozart.(用嗅觉形容听觉)
Parallelism
Reading makes us wise and exercises make us strong.
To succeed in life, you need to take advantage of opportunities and to follow your dreams.
This is not only just what I wanted, but also what I needed.
lt was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, and it was the age of foolishness. It was the epoch of belief, and it was the epoch of incredulity. It was the season of light, and it was the season of darkness. lt was the spring of hope, and it was the winter of despair.
Euphemism

He is out visiting the necessary.
His relation with his wife has not been fortunate.
Deng Xiaoping passed away in 1997.
Allegory
英文解释:an expressive style that uses fictional characters and events to describe some subject by suggestive resemblances; an extended metaphor 摘自英语专业《大学英语教程》一书
Make the hay while the sun shines.
It's time to turn plough into sword.
Irony
It would be a fine thing indeed not knowing what time it was in the morning.
"Of course, you only carry large notes, no small change on you. "the waiter said to the beggar.“当然,您只带大钞,没有零钱。”
Pun
She is too low for a high praise, too brown for a fair praise and too little for a great praise.

Rhetorical question
How was it possible target=_blank class=info text key>possible to walk for an hour through the woods and see nothing worth of note
Shall we allow those untruths to go unanswered
Predawn lamplight, bright as it is, can never outshine the majestic rising sun.
Isn’t it unfair to forget appreciating myself while appreciating others
Isn’t it true that without doing manual labour, we couldn’t even keep a single flower alive
Contrast
Many people will soon find themselves rich in goods, but ragged in spirit.
Everyone in the classroom was chatting happily while Refael sat alone, at a loss.

More haste, less speed.
The child is the father to the man.(童年时代可决定人之未来)三岁看大,四岁看老。
Oxymoron

No light, but rather darkness visible.
The state of this house is cheerless welcome.
Climax

Repetition

I am Sadie. I love oceans, especially the one near my grandma's house with beautiful shells. Why That's what I am about to tell you.
It all started when my parents divorced a few weeks ago. I had remained silent since then. So my mother decided to send me to Florida to live with my grandma.
On the way to my grandma’s house, my mother said, “Sadie, I know we are not the best family you can have and I truly apologize. I just do not know how to be a mother. But remember, Sadie, whatever happened, I do love you." These words made me sadder.
When we arrived, Grandma told me to go upstairs and unpack my things while she spoke to my mother. When I saw a blue and green painted room with a huge window and a comfortable bed, I thought, Moving to Florida might not be that bad." I comforted my-self as I walked towards the window. I opened the curtains and saw sky-blue waves slowly washing away the sand on the beach and sea birds flying in the clear sky. The ocean was only a few hundred meters away from here.
After my mother left, Grandma softly touched my shoulder, “I want to take you to the place I called 'the Big Blue’. And I think you might like it." (I guess you could know where it is.)
Before I stepped on the sand I could smell the ocean. Together we enjoyed the sunset with a whole lot of yellow and orange. Suddenly she picked out the most beautiful shell I had ever seen in my life. It was almost gold, shining in the sunlight. I couldn’t move my eyes off it.

When a tornado hit a small town nearby, many families were left homeless. Afterward, all the local newspapers carried stories of the families who suffered the hardest to appeal to people’s attention and assistance.
One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of a mobile home, a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old. stood at her side, eyes downcast. Hiding behind her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, wide eyes with confusion and fear. The article below gave clothing sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my seven-year-old twins. Brad and Brett, and three-year-old Meghan to help those less fortunate than themselves.
“We have so much. And these poor people now have nothing” I said. “We’ll share what we have with them,” I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them in the living room. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and foods. While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. The boys were pleased to join. Brad rose and went to his room fast. He came back bringing his action figures that he played with not so frequently. Brett also jumped up and ran to fetch some of his Matchbox cars and airplane models. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up abandoned toys.
The boys placed the objects they had chosen to donate into one of the boxes while I filled the third box with clothes. Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, faded, best-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. “I’ll help you find something for the little girl, too.” I said to the little Meghan.
Para. 1:
“Mommy, I will give Lucy to them,” Meghan turned to me.

Recognizing what little Meghan’s gesture meant, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes.

It was dark, cold and raining on December 24. James left his office and walked slowly across the street to the parking place. He was very tired. He took out his car key and put down his umbrella. He put the key into the lock and turned it. Nothing happened. The door would not open. Then James realized that it was the wrong car. His car was red, but this one was dark blue. “Oh dear! I must have parked in a different place this morning,” thought he. Putting up his umbrella, he set off to look for his car. The rain poured down and the evening got colder and colder.
Having walked round all the side streets, James didn’t find his car. He was exhausted and angry. “Someone must have stolen my car,” he thought. “Now I shall have to go to the police station and report it.” The policeman there was very helpful. He wrote down a description of James car and then took his address and telephone number. As James was leaving, the policeman wished him a merry Christmas.
“Christmas!” thought James. “Oh no! I’ve forgotten all about Christmas. I haven’t bought my wife a present and now all the shops are shut. What shall I do ” When waiting for the bus, he got wetter and more miserable (难受的). He had no umbrella and the rain flowed down into his collar. He felt like bursting into tears.
When James got home, he found his wife standing on a chair and looking for something in a very high cupboard. “What are you doing, Jessica ” he asked. “The big gold star for the Christmas tree,” Jessica replied. “Just a moment. I’ll go into the garage (车库) and fetch the stepladder (梯子) for you,” said James. When James saw .the well-decorated Christmas tree and lots of presents under it, he felt even more unhappy. “What a lovely tree!” he thought as he went downstairs, “I haven’t even got one present for Jessica. I’ve lost my car and I’m completely wet. I must have lost my umbrella, too.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
As James opened the garage door, he spotted something, frozen in amazement.

An ambassador is an honest man who lies abroad for the good of his country.
If we don't hang together, we shall hang separately.

Rome was not built in a day, nor in a year.
A friend in need is a friend to be avoided.
If you give a girl an inch nowadays she will make address of it.
Never before in history has a city been so completely destroyed. Never in all San Francisco’s history were her people so kind as on that terrible night.
Out at sea it was calm. No wind came up. Yet from every direction — east, west, north and south, strong winds blew upon the unlucky city.

More haste, less speed.
The child is the father to the man.(童年时代可决定人之未来)三岁看大,四岁看老。
Oxymoron
No light, but rather darkness visible.
The state of this house is cheerless welcome.
Climax

Repetition
For three days the water in the village wells rose and fell, rose and fell.
The trees were blown down, the billboards were blown down and the houses were blown down, some of which even lay in pieces.

Now is the time to forget everything in the past. Now is the time to get down to the business. Now it is the time to work hard for the future.
Watch your thoughts, for they become your words;

Part 3

“Mommy, I will give Lucy to them,” Meghan turned to me. “Oh, honey,” I said. “You don't have to give Lucy. You love her so much.” Meghan nodded seriously, eyes glistening with tears. “Lucy makes me happy, Mommy. Maybe she'll make that little girl happy, too.” She paused in front of the box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy's flat face, gave her a final kiss, and then laid her gently on top of the other toys. The boys watched, open-mouthed, as their baby sister placed her favorite doll in the box.
Recognizing what little Meghan's gesture meant, I removed my old jacket from the box of clothes. I replaced it with the new hunter green jacket that I had bought on sale last week. I believed the young woman in the picture would like it and fit it as much as I did. The boys had also been inspired by our behavior and carried their beloved things. We all wished the family could pass the difficult period as soon as possible and that they would love the things we gave them with all our heart.

As James opened the garage door, he spotted something, frozen in amazement. Inside the garage was his red car. He suddenly remembered that it wouldn’t start this morning so he just took a taxi to work. James was overjoyed. He was just about to rush upstairs and tell Jessica the good news when he heard, “Meow! Meow!” He looked inside the car and there sat a small kitten with pointed ears and green eyes. James’ eyes were glued to the kitten for a few minutes and a brilliant idea struck him. “This is for Jessica.” He picked the kitten up.
Pleased to know his car was there, James entered the room with the present. “This is your present,” said to Jessica happily. “Oh, thank you, darling. I’ve always wanted a kitten,” her face lit up. Just then the telephone rang. It was the policeman. James was told that his car hadn’t been found but his umbrella was got in the police station. Putting the phone down, James gazed at Jessica, joy welling up inside him. Bathed in the warm Christmas atmosphere, James walked over to Jessica and hugged her tightly.
