I made up my mind to pass on “love” to others(传递爱给其他人). Just as a saying goes : “ Roses given, fragrance in hand(赠人玫瑰,手有余香). ”
From that day on, every time I meet someone who needs help, I always reach out to them, hoping to pass on the kindness (希望传递善意)that Mexican family offered me.
Sometimes, a small act of kindness may be powerful enough to make a huge difference(会有很大不同).
这个句型就是:from then on +行动。
From then on, I would try my best to help sb like sb.Only in this way, could more and more people help each other in the future.
From then on, Bernard made up his mind to help someone who needs help . Only in this way, could more and more people help each other in the future.
From then on, I placed a jack and some common tools in my car. When meeting people in need on the road ,I would try my best to help them like the family.Only in this way, could more and more people help each other in the future.
sb looked at sth / held sth, tears rolling down without control. It is love that makes the world go around, which sb felt deep in one’s heart.
It is love that makes the world go around(正是“爱”让世界转动),还有一个定语从句:which sb felt deep in one’s heart.
I held the paper bag tightly, tears rolling down without control. It is love that makes the world go around, which I felt deep in my heart.
He held the coins tightly, tears rolling down without control. It is love that makes the world go around, which Bernard felt deep in his little heart.
It dawned on me that a moment of kindness could mean so much to another, and that a simple act could make the world so much better.
Whether rich or poor, we should be happy to do something for society. Thus we can learn that giving is the source of happiness.
Sometimes, a small act of kindness may be powerful enough to make a huge difference.
I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.Kyle had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn’t have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. Meanwhile,I found he looked hard at me and gave me a little smile."Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable,I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. When his eyes caught mine,I was able to see tears shimmered in his smiling eyes.
I smiled back in tears. Not until that moment did I realize what big difference one small gesture had made to him. I even saw his Mom and Dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. It dawned on me that never should we underestimate the power of our actions. With one small gesture we can change a person's life. For better or for worse.
The water kept rising, and there was no hope of rescue. The hours passed. Jason and Andrew didn't dare to move for fear of slipping. They dozed off and then jerked themselves awake. Every once in a while, one of them turned on his headlamp to check the water level. An hour later, the water level went down enough that they could try an escape. Stiff from keeping in one position for 12 hours, they slowly unfolded their bodies. Jason screamed in pain, but he was determined not to let it stop him.
Slowly but steadily, the group made their way forward. Still, each time Jason moved a leg, he cried out. Over the next 90 minutes, they made their way toward the entrance, at times in chest-high water. Now, in a passage that was high enough for them to walkupright, Jason saw something flicker in the distance."Lights! I see lights!" Jason shouted out.For the first time since entering the cave, over 20 hours earlier, Jason's emotions got the best of him and tears trickled down his cheeks.
As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise. At that moment, in her sight came the packet of cookies, which had beenjust bought by her, unopened at all. Ashamed and feeling like a thief, she finally got that the cookies were not hers but belonged to the man sitting next to her, who had calmly offered to share his last cookie with her.A sudden rush of shy blood filling the face, she instinctively look around with the hope of finding the very man to make an apology.
Surprisingly, she found the man sitting just behind her. He was just looking up and met her eyes, also with a smile on his face. The woman was at an absolute loss but gave the man a nervous laugh in return. Witha quite open mouth, she was unable to say any apology to him. Murmuring "Sorry, sorry..It was I myself who was the real cookie thief." After a while, she fell asleep on her seat with the plane flying steadily. The next day, when she arrived at her new company, the biggest surprise was waiting for her.
Tom noticed the flame was reaching up. Frozen with fear, he stood rooted to the spot. He comprehended the gravity of the situation and held Jane′s hand tightly. By then, both of them were coughing and their eyes were stinging. Time seemed to stand still, though they were probably there for only two or three minutes. Tom begged Jane to run for safety as quickly as possible.Jane tried to shield her nose from the choking smoke and shook her head. She kept pounding against the door. Tom burst out crying.
Luckily, some neighbors passing by stopped and offered help.A sense of strength immediately replaced the mounting fear and anxiety in Jane's mind. She told them Ms. Makcik must be still in the room. They forced the door open with all their might. Sure enough, Makcik was lying in bed, unconscious. She was carried downstairs and then rushed to the hospital, where she finally came to herself. People in the neighborhood felt relieved and Jane and Tom's joy was immense.
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then he picked it up and tapped the man on the shoulder and said,"Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket." The man turned around and saw the money. He knew what was going on,he looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his, squeezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with his lip shaking and a tear running down his cheek, he replied,"Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family.
That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets. We didn't go to the circus that night, when I asked dad why he did so, Dad said,"My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. Surely he wasn't begging fora handout, but he reminded me of my father, when I was young." He paused for a while, as if wandering in his memory."We should appreciate what we have obtained from life and seize every opportunity to help others. We didn't go to the circus tonight, but we didn't go without. Now, who wants an ice cream 。
The driver responded,"It must feel good to be taken care of and protected like you are every day."Confused by what the driver talked about, she asked, "What do you mean " The driver answered, "Every morning in the past week,a fine looking gentleman ina military uniform has been standing across the street watching you getting off the bus.He makes sure you cross the street safely and he watches until you enter your office building. Then he blows you a kiss, gives you a lite salute and walks away. You are one lucky lady.'
Tears of happiness poured down Susan's cheeks. She stood motionlessly facing the opposite side of the street as if gazing at someone. Although she couldn't physically see him, she definitely felt Mark's presence. Susan thought she was actually lucky, for he had given her a gift more powerful than sight,a gift of love that can bring light where there is darkness.Just as Mark grew a little worried, he saw his wife break into a radiant smile and blow a kiss to his direction. Finally she found back herself blind but attractive and confident as she used to be.
A seat beside her was empty, and Dannis occupied it.He felt a wave of anger swept over him. "Where is my wallet " he yelled. The black-haired girl glanced up from her reading, with a confused look on her face. Dannis stood up,glared at her and shouted,"You stole my wallet!" The crowds began to gossip. The girl turned deadly pale, looking so restless that words failed her.A strange silence hung in the air. Abruptly, she leaped from the seat.
The girl ran and Dannis ran after her. After a while, Dannis finally grabbed her by the arm.At exactly that moment,a policeman approached them and asked about what happened.Dannis hastened to explain it while the girl frowned with a shake of her head. After further inquiries, the policeman took out a wallet and handed it to Dannis, adding that someone had found it in the toilet. What a mistake he had made! Overwhelmed by guilt, Dannis made an apology to the girl.
The boy started running again to give the kite lift. The wind on the kite was at once strong and swift, carrying him up high into the air.Closing his eyes tight, he trembled all over in panic, not daring to look down. But with the boy's inspiring words in mind, he got up his nerve and managed to keep the balance and let his fear go.As the wind carried him upward, he slowly opened his eyes, only to see the whole town from a brand-new dimension!"Give more string, please. More! he yelled to the boy excitedly. With courage,he made a great dance in the air, making other kids cheering wildly
The kite felt peaceful and delighted and new. With other kites flying around, he floated, twirled, stretched his wings and waved his rag tail, a broad smile spreading on his face. The higher he went, the greater the view. Seeing the scared, timid kite now dancing confidently, the boy was touched, believing that the kite had learned a new lesson--the best way to defeat fear is to face it bravely and optimistically.
Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation.Jenny didn't answer. How could she explain about the watch and its magic No one could understand. No one could believe. "But I saw you wearing it yesterday," Miss Walker gently reminded him. For a moment Lee remained silent and then he apologized he had just remembered that.Jenny was relieved saying she had found it on the way home and decided to return it after the speech. Everybody was puzzled and asked why. Jenny again was speechless.
Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny's speech first.Jenny walked slowly to the front. She couldn't think properly. All round her, a sea of faces was watching. She felt so frightened and the watch didn't seem magical at all. Suddenly she saw Miss Walker's encouraging eyes.Jenny took a deep breath."I'm going to talk about swimming…." Ten minutes later the whole class stood up applauding Jenny's wonderful speech. Jenny smiled as she eventually realized the real source of confidence.
I was stopped by my mother's eager, joyful look."Let's see what it is, honey. Hurry and open it."It was a blow dryer. Though this may seem but a simple gift, to me it was so much more. Being an eleven-year-old girl, I was stunned. In my world, where receiving lately outweighed giving, my mom's act of selflessness was incomprehensible. It was a huge act Tears filled my eyes and I thought in disbelief about how much my mom must love me to give up her Christmas so-could have a few more presents.
I have always remembered that Christmas fondly: It had such an impact on me. As an adult with children in my life whom I adore, I can now understand my mom's actions.I see actually, she was not ""giving up her Christmas" as I had thought, but was finding an even greater joy in her Christmas because giving truly is better than receiving. My mom's simple act meant the world to me. Whenever I look back on my mom's giving, I will choose to give in my life.
I was wondering what to say when I heard the sound of footsteps out of the tent.We both looked up. It was exactly the young man in the photo but looked much stronger. The woman said something to him, looking at us smiling."Need some Mg "he asked. It's amazing he was speaking very good English! George and I looked at each other, eyes lit up."Yes, and we were wondering if you could have one of our tyres changed." "Follow me!" he said, sounding like sort of an order.
We got up and together walked back to the car. The man grabbed the wheel with one hand and a spanner with the other. With an outburst of shout, the tyre was oosened up."You just need a bit of effort. Haha!" George and I stood there dumbfounded watching him finishing the whole job, gratitude and admiration rushing in my heart. The knot that had been tired up by the pain in my foot, the cold soaking rain and the stubborn flat tyre was loosened up too,in the warm tea from the woman, the heroic shout of the man, the mountain view in the distance and the joy of being alel to set off again.

During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.

When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch.Hearing what she said, I realized that I didn’t have lunch. To be honest, after working hard for several hours, I was so hungry. Feeling a bit embarrassed, I replied: “no!”The girl said with a smile, “Come on! Join us.The Mexicon sandwich is delicious!” With moved tears rolling around my eyes, I took the sandwich. After eating it like wolf, I felt that it was the tasty sandwich that I had ever had. While dining, I talked about my trouble and feelings and they shared their interesting stories in the life. Then, the girl’s mother had another sandwich and some fruit place din a paper bag and handed it to me,saying gently: “Keep it and have it later! We had to go now.” I showed my heartfelt gratitude to them and saw them disappear in my sight.
After they left, I got into my jeep and opened the paper bag. What surprised me a lot was that there was a sandwich, fruit and the bill given by me.Holding the paper bag tightly, I stood still, a warm current rising in my heart. How grateful was I to the family helping me. Although most of people I met on the road were indifferent, there were still some people like this family who was so helpful and thoughtful. From then on, I placed a jack and some common tools in my car. When meeting people in need on the road ,I would try my best to help them like the family.Only in this way, could more and more people help each other in the future.

The Meredith family lived in a small community. As the economy was in decline, some people in the town had lost their jobs. Many of their families were struggling to make ends meet. People were trying to help each other meet the challenges.
Mrs. Meredith was a most kind and thoughtful woman. She spent a great deal of time visiting the poor. She knew they had problems, and they needed all kinds of help. When she had time, she would bring food and medicine to them.
One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy — his name was Bernard — had interested her very much.
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don’t see what he can do.”
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. “I wish we could help him to earn money,” said Clara. “His family is suffering so much.”
“So do I,” said Harry. “We really should do something to assist them.”
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, “I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish (完成) .”
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. “I tell you what we can do,” said John. “You know that big box of corn Uncle John sent us Well, we can make popcorn (爆米花), and put it into paper bags, and Bernard can take it around to the houses and sell it.”

When Mrs. Meredith heard of the idea, she thought it was a good one, too. Then Mrs. Meredith searched the internet and ordered a household popcorn machine. After that, Mrs. Meredith, together with her three children, paid another visit to the family and told them about the popcorn plan. Needless to say, they were deeply moved, especially Bernard who finally found a way to make money for his family. A few days later, the machine was delivered to Mrs. Meredith’s doorstep. And it wasn’t long before they got the hang of using the machine to make popcorn.
With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. Although it was a hard time and things were tight for everybody, Bernard’s business worked out quite well. He carried the popcorn on his small bike, going from door to door to sell it. People were surprised to see such a little, poorly-dressed boy selling popcorn at their doors, but eventually almost all of them would buy a bag or two. It is love that makes the world go round and Bernard felt it deep in his little heart.

My knees started shaking, yet my body froze. It felt as though my soul departed my body and I had no control over it. Anxiously, I looked through the roster (名单) posted on the wall of the locker room. My heart was beating harder and harder as I slowly saw all my friends’ names on that list but could not find mine. At that moment, I froze. I just could not accept that all my friends were on the basketball team while I was not.
I was so convinced there was a mistake that I went and found the coach. “Hey coach, are you sure that the roster you posted is correct ” I asked anxiously, dreading (担心) his answer.
“Yes, the names on the list are finalized. Sorry if you did not make it this year, there is always next year,” the coach replied.
I could feel the hot, bitter tears filling my eyes, and I ran out of the room as fast as I could. Trying to forget about the situation, I headed over to the cafeteria to buy some food. I felt dead inside, like nothing mattered. Walking was such a burden that it felt as if I had a 100-pound weight tied to my backpack. My mind was also blank for the rest of the school day. Everything my teachers said went in one ear and out the other.
After school, as I walked to the parking lot to get picked up, I saw all my friends gathered near the rear of the lot, celebrating and joking around. I detoured (绕道) around the side of the school to avoid them, trying not to think about being the only one in our friend group failing to make the team.
I saw my father’s car pull up near the school lot, and I walked up to the car and got in. He smiled at me, played the radio, and started driving home.

Noticing my bad mood, he asked me what was wrong. Full of sorrow, I told him tearfully, “I wanted to join our school basketball team so much and I practiced hard. But I didn’t make it.” Hearing what I said, my father comforted me, “I hope that the unexpected failure will not let you down. Success is never an easy task, but needs painstaking efforts and patience. I believe you can make it.”
Inspired by what my father said, I decided to work toward my goal. I made a much tighter schedule from then on. I practiced hard for an hour every day to improve the basic skills and strength. To my delight, I was finally recognized by the coach, who said that I showed great talent in sports.

What It Means to Serve
I didn’t continue college after graduation. I moved out of my family. With little work experience, I served as a waitress. But during the five years’ labor, I found myself burning calories running about only for a tip.
I had had enough so I moved to a smaller town hoping to pursue a college degree. I promised I would never serve people again - at least not in such way. It was time to serve myself. Luckily, I received a position as an afterschool program tutor at a local middle school, with the added benefit of completing English education degree. I had the opportunity to go big! The kid would need me - a role model and a trustworthy friend, I believed.
But my first day was welcomed by the students’ indifference (冷漠). The desks were messy and the whole room smelled of dirty gym socks. My excitement began to die down. I doubted whether the new job was a mistake. The playground activity was deafening while homework time was not much better. After my repeated persistence, they finally turned off the playground mode. But just a few minutes passed when I noticed two kids quarreling in the corner.
I supposed it was another little incident but one kid named Jeremy bothered me. He shouted at me for coming at him. And when I asked them to return to their seats, he slammed (用力摔) his backpack and grew mad as I tried to urge him to take the right attitude. “I don’t like you, homework and this afterschool program! All you guys do is yell at me. I’m never coming back.” he walked out of the classroom, slamming the door.
Naturally, I was so frustrated (挫败的). I wondered why I am here. Most kids disrespected me! I paused to take a deep breath. Then suddenly I thought to myself, “You said you would never serve people again, but you don’t understand what these kids really need.” At that moment, I remembered my middle-school life. I always had a poor attitude, never did my schoolwork, repeatedly got into fights, and disrespected my elders.

Realizing I was not different, I walked out into the hall and caught up with Jeremy. “I’m sorry, Jeremy. Could I have a talk with you ” I said, trying to be calm and sincere. He turned around, looked at me for a moment and nodded, “OK”. “Jeremy, could you tell me what have happened to you ” I asked. Hesitantly, Jeremy began to share with me about his story. From what he said, I knew his mother was killed in a car accident three months before. Worse still, his father, who was in deep sorrow, lost his job at the same time. After that, his father became bad-tempered and often shouted at him, ignoring all his requests. As he told me what was happening, he began to cry.
At that moment, my heart broke for this boy and his family life. I gently hugged him and patted him on the back. Then I walked him home and encouraged him to face life in a positive way. After that, I often chatted with Jeremy and helped him deal with his troubles. I even paid a visit to his father several times. As time went by, Jeremy behaved better and better and smiles often appeared on his face. At the end of the program, Jeremy hugged me tightly and thanked me again and again. At that moment, I suddenly realized what it meant to serve --- Get to know a person from the bottom of your heart and give what he needs.
