We might usually see this scene in science fiction or movies: people are traveling between cities in tubes. The tube trains are even faster than planes, and people arrive at their destinations in minutes. Well, one big step was taken to make this happen.
On May 11, 2018, the first open air test of the propulsion system (推进系统) for a tube train, which is called the Hyperloop, took place in the Nevada desert, US. The system went from 0 to 169 kilometers per hour in just over a second.
We may feel shocked at the fact but this isn’t the final goal. Elon Musk, founder of the US space company Space X, first had the idea for the Hyperloop in 2013. He wants passengers to travel in low-pressure tubes, propelled (推进) by magnets (磁铁), at a speed of around 1,200 Kilometers per hour. The common speed of Boeing airplanes is 800 to 1,100 kilometers per hour.
Musk calls the Hyperloop the fifth main kind of transportation for humans, after ships, cars, trains and planes. According to him, the Hyperloop is safe, produces fewer greenhouse gases and can work in any weather.
But right now, Hyperloop One is still far away from its final product. One major problem about making the inter-city Hyperloop available is that it could cost too much. “They’re up against airlines, and airlines don’t need to build hundreds of miles of tubes,” said Jose Gomez Ibanez, a professor of city planning at Harvard University, US. So we will have to wait and see.

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village, “Who are they ” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was completed, a policy (政策) was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.
Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside. Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we should not forget our hometowns where we are from.

What would you do if you see an old man lying on the side of the road If you know first aid (急救)and have received first aid training, you can provide him with help before professional help arrives.
Experts say the first 10 minutes after an accident are important for saving a life. Just as its name suggests, first aid is the first steps before a person gets professional medical help. It includes making the person stay safe, and helping him or her feel better and stay calm. It also includes getting help, either by telling an adult or calling 120.
First aid is an important life skill that everyone should learn. By learning it, you may save someone’s life someday. But in China, less than 1 percent of adults have first aid knowledge. A 2019 research showed that 64.6 percent of schools already have these courses. However, the results have not been good. According to the MOE, future results are expected to be better.
Other countries have also made a big effort to provide first aid training to their people. In1966 the US government said police officers, firefighters, middle school teachers and college teachers must receive CPR training. In Switzerland, all people learn first aid skills. I’d already won prizes for the best math and English exams. A week later, the list came out and it didn’t include me. I was sad.
Mr. Wang came to me and said, “Don’t be sad. I know you’re excellent! Maybe you’re a little distant from the girls in our class. They don’t know much about you, so some of them didn’t choose you. It doesn’t matter. Do your best to get along well with everyone and I think you’ll make it next time.”
