书面表达 One Thing I will Do for My Parents
I have made great progress in the past three years. Now I want to do one thing for my parents.
I want to make a breakfast for my parents. I’m going to the supermarket on Saturday afternoon to buy what I need for breakfast. Then, the next morning I will get up early so as not to wake my parents. I will make my mother’s favorite sandwiches and coffee. My father likes to eat tomato beef noodles for breakfast, I will learn how to cook on my phone. Make sure they can have a delicious breakfast after getting up.
I have had this idea in my heart for many years, but I never get the chance to do it. In the past few years, my parents always got up early to prepare breakfast for me. It is their love and support that make me better, so I want to return them with the same love. I love them.泰州市民兴中英文学校

It was Jennifer Williams’s mother who made her interested in books lifelong. As a librarian (图书管理员), she read to her three children every day. “Not until we went to preschool” Williams told , a local news site. “Until we went to college.”
When Williams, now 54, became a teacher in Danville, Virginia, she wanted her students to fall in love with reading just as she had. But early on, she realized that some kids had little chance to develop reading habits.
“It’s very easy for teachers of young children to find out which kids read and who do not,” she said. “It’s clear at the end of the first day of school.” To Williams, the way to solve the problem was simple: Give kids books. In 2017, as part of a civil (市政的) event called Engage Danville, she gave away 900 used children’s books over three days. Most people would be satisfied with that.
“Anybody could do that,” she said. “I wanted to do something that’s going to go with my faith (信仰), my work rules, my everything.”
In order to realize her dream, she set a new goal for herself: Give away one million books. It sounds like an unreachable number, but as Williams posted on Facebook: “Don’t complain in the bedrooms if you aren’t willing to work hard out on the field.”
So she got to work, first by roping in friends to donate books or money to buy books. Before long, as news of Williams’ project spread, strangers started leaving boxes of books at her front door. As quickly as the books come in, Williams gives them to local schools—free of charge—and also gave away books to little free libraries around her city of 41000 just over the North Carolina border (边界). She also hosts a book club for people in the local jail (监狱).
In the four years, she’s been doing all this, the Book Lady, as Williams has come to be known, has given away more than 78, 000 books—only 922, 000 more to reach her goal. And she’s not slowing down. It’s too important for kids with few choices.
“Reading can take you anywhere,” she told a reporter. “You can travel in time and space. If you can read, you can learn almost anything.”

Last year, I took a trip to Dunhuang with some friends.
After we left our hotel, we stepped out into a sandstorm that morning. Luckily, many of our group were well-prepared with face masks and caps. I, on the other hand, was not as equipped(配备). I should have learned about the conditions there better.
This was the low-point of the trip, but reparation(补偿) was made that evening with a trip to an amazing cultural show called “Silk Road”. This was a more interesting take on the Silk Road’s history, using dance and song to show the vivid(生动的) cultural traditions and artistic legacies(遗产) of Dunhuang and the Silk Road. It was a fully entertaining(有趣的) evening.
The next day’s visit to the Mogao Caves was certainly the highlight of the trip. From the outside, they look perfectly common. But upon entering the dry, cool caves, it’s as though you’ve been taken to another world: it’s a great place of ancient artwork with 45, 000 square meters of murals(壁画) and statues, making it the world’s largest collection of Buddhist(佛教的) art. Many of the pink-coloured paints have turned black. Our guide said, “The painters spent much of their lives painting in the near-dark, guided only by rays of natural light and dull oil lamps, and as such, most went blind.”
Out of the darkness of the caves, we stepped into the blinding light of the Gobi, with a view of the Yueyaquan, nestled in the desert bowl, for an afternoon of sand-boarding and camel rides—Silk Road style.

Ancient art doesn’t have to be boring. Technology in the 21st century can help to bring it to life by combining(融合) the best of the old and the new.
Along the River During the Qingming Festival
Walking into the China Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, people were amazed by seeing a huge digital(数码的) painting. Scientists digitized(数码化) the famous painting Along the River During the Qingming Festisal by Chinese artist Zhang Zeduan.
The original(原先的) painting shows life during the Northern Song period and it includes many details of ancient Chinese customs, lifestyles and technology.
Farmers work in the fields, sailors move around their boats and people eat and do business in restaurants. Parts of the background are also animated(做成动画). You can see the wind blowing through the trees and across the water. These animations perfectly combine modern technology and ancient art.
Digital technology allows today’s artists to express their ideas in ways that ancient artists would not believe possible. Techniques such as animation and 3D digital projection(投影) make art come alive.
Dunhuang Cave Paintings
Dunhuang Caves, which are protected ancient treasures in the Gobi desert in Northwest China, are filled with paintings and sculptures with lasting value. This artwork was created over a period of around 1,000 years.
The good news is for art lovers who cannot travel and for the caves. Scientists have created a 360-degree, 3D digital projection of the caves, which makes the artwork come alive. There is also a function(功能) that lets viewers zoom in and enjoy the paintings and sculptures in greater detail.
Digitising ancient art allows us to explore the ancient practices. It also makes the whole world understand the art while protecting the original artworks for the future.

Tasty bananas are hard to turn down. They taste good and you don't have to wash them before eating them. However, British scientists say that the fruit may disappear by 2050.
One reason for this is climate(气候)change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected data from 27 countries that produce 86 percent of the world's bananas. They found that climate change has improved growing conditions in 21 of these countries. For the past 60 years, the annual yields(年均产量)have been increasing by 1.37 tonnes(公吨)of bananas per hectare. In this way, if temperatures rises all the time, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world's biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may die out.
Shouldn't banana plants grow more easily if it's hotter outside In fact, the perfect temperature for growing banana plants is between 24°C and 32°C. If temperatures get too high, they will stop growing.
Diseases are another danger to banana plants. Unlike other crops, the banana plants we grow come from shoot cuttings(茎段)rather than seeds(种子). This shows that all banana plants have the same genotype(基因型). In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all.
For example, one serious disease is called Panama. Caused by fungi(真菌) in the soil, it spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. If one banana plantation(种植园)suffers from the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow banana plants again. Scientists have to find a cure for this disease.
Bananas
Present situations ·Bananas ___76___ delicious. ·You don't have to wash them before you ___77___ them. ·The annual yields have been ___78___.
Problems ·Climate change hasn’t improved growing conditions in __79___ of these countries. ·if temperatures ___80__ rising, this advantage will disappear. ·India and other countries will produce fewer bananas.
Final endings ·If temperatures is ___81___ 32°C, bananas will stop growing. ·We grow banana plants from shoot cuttings __82__ of seeds. This shows that all banana plants have the same genotype. So, only one disease __83___ kill all the bananas. ·The __84___ which was caused by fungi in the soil spreads easily, and it takes 30 years to grow banana plants again. ·Scientists have to find a cure to avoid it.
Conclusion If we don’t act, they will be ___85___ bananas left.
