A
Beginning 2020, the fifth generation of wireless technology is expected to be widely used throughout the world. The new network, called 5G, promises to give faster speeds and a higher capacity for the use of more devices. However, while some companies are competing to be the first to deliver 5G to the consumer, the environmental influences of the new network are being overlooked.
There is some evidence that the new devices and technologies associated with 5G will be harmful to ecosystems. The main component of the 5G network that will affect the earth's ecosystems is the millimeter waves. The millimeter waves that are being used in developing the 5G network have never been used at such scale(规模) before. Studies have found that there are some harms caused by these new technologies.
The millimeter waves, specifically, had a detrimental effect on birds. In a study, researchers observed that after exposure to radiation from a cell tower for just 5~30 minutes, the eggs of sparrows were disfigured. The disfiguration of birds exposed for such a short amount of time to these frequencies(频率) is significant considering that the new 5G network will have a much higher density(浓度) of base stations(small cells) throughout areas needing connection. The potential dangers of having so many small cells all over areas where birds live could threaten their population's survival.
Additionally, it was found that cellular devices were linked to many disturbances in the ecosystems of bees. In this study, beehives exposed for just ten minutes to 900MHz waves fell victim to colony collapse disorder(蜂群崩坏症候群). Bees are an incredibly important part of the earth's ecosystem. Around one-third of the food produced today is dependent on bees for pollination(授粉), making bees are a vital part of the agricultural system.
The impact that the cell towers have on birds and bees is important to understand, because all ecosystems of the earth are interconnected. If one component of an ecosystem is disrupted the whole system will be affected.
46.What will probably cause the environmental problems with the wide use of 5G network
A.The lack of the density of base stations.
B.The less mature devices and technologies.
C.The lower capacity for the use of devices.
D.The large amount of use of millimeter waves.
47.Which of the following best explains the underlined word "detrimental" in Paragraph 3
A.Important. B.Unknown. C.Harmful. D.Potential.
48.Why are bees important in the earth's ecosystem
A.They play a key role in food production.
B.They can guide some pollinators to work.
C.They are likely to reduce unpleasant noises.
D.They rid disturbances in the agricultural system.
49.What is the best title for the text
A.Should 5G Be Used in the Future B.The Influence of 5G on Ecosystem
C.The Research on 5G Technologies D.How Can Ecosystem Survive 5G
【答案】46.D
47.C
48.A

Innovation(创新) comes from environments where ideas can connect. So what kind of environment does an epidemic(传染病) create when it comes to quickening innovation This is the very question a new information chart from Top Masters looks to answer. According to the report, ground- breaking innovations have come despite the tragic effect of epidemics throughout history. This is a timely report because people are coming up with some innovative ideas to address many of the challenges brought on by COVID-19.
As epidemics go, the Black Death of the 1300% was extremely shocking. The plague(瘟疫) as it is also known, wiped out up to 60% of the population in Europe. According to the report, it was responsible for changing the economic and social structure of Europe and the creation of a middle class.
There were other outbreaks of the plague in England later on. In 1592, London faced an outbreak that shut down theaters for six months, This led Shakespeare to start writing poetry to make a living. And it was during this time that he wrote Venus and Adonis, and The Rape of Lucre. Another plague in 1606 also closed the theatres in London, and this time Shakespeare wrote King Lear and Macbeth.
In the US, the Boston smallpox epidemic of 1721 led to the spread of variolation (天花接种) which was responsible for reducing the death rate from 14% to2%, as well as the first steps towards vaccines.
COVID-19 is causing serious damage around the world. And although the death rate is nowhere close, the economic impact has been overwhelming. On the negative side, it has highlighted may of the shortcoming in the healthcare industry as nurses and doctors battled virus unfortunately underequipped.
With increased connectivity and technology, innovators around the world have responded by making the equipment that healthcare workers desperately need Today's innovators are addressing ventilator(呼吸机) shortages by using 3D printers and designing simpler ventilators; companies are making washable and reusable masks; app are tracking the virus and fighting the spread of misinformation.
50.What can be inferred from the first paragraph
A.Epidemics can promote creative ideas.
B.Creative ideas can influence epidemics.
C.Innovation exists in any environment.
D.Epidemics have more negative effects on the environment.
51.According to the passage what effect did epidemics have in history
A.The death rate was decreased.
B.European economy was improved.
C.Shakespeare changed his writing focus.
D.The Boston smallpox killed 14% of the population.
52.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.The COVID- 19 will soon be wiped out.
B.Medical workers are making equipment.
C.Healthcare equipment has been made in large quantities.
D.Innovators rely on technology to solve medical problems.

This week, my social media feed was flooded with pictures of a festival that is typically celebrated in March in Nepal. For me growing up, the festival, which is a Nepalese tradition, had less regional significance and was largely cultural, providing me with a day to play with color and water with my beloved family and friends.
As an international student, being away from home means being disconnected from cultural traditions. While a cultural disconnect is unavoidable, when I see the news headlines or posts that friends share on social media, being ignorant about what's happening back home fills me with penitence. It had been a while since I read articles about what was happening in Nepal. Even catching up with family members and old friends takes weeks to achieve.
In all honesty, I don't know how to do a better job of keeping up to date with everything when focused on classes and work, and adjusting to college life. The news cycles in the US and at home are changing constantly, and can sometimes feel astonishing. But at least here in Rochester, the everyday chat keeps you knowing what's happening outside the campus. Keeping up with news from home, however, requires the extra individual effort I just can't spare time for while dealing with everything else I have to do here.
Talking to other international students, I find the feeling seems to be common for many of us. Maybe that's just the reality of living abroad, and all we can do is our best. But with the opportunity to celebrate the festival away from home with friends at the university and learn to forgive myself for not staying up to date with what's happening in my country, I know what I have at present is exactly what I need to hold and deserves my deep gratefulness.
54.What did the author regard the festival as
A.A connection with her hometown.
B.A chance to have fun with loved ones.
C.A tradition which is long forgotten.
D.A holiday reflecting regional uniqueness.
55.What does the underlined word "penitence" mean in paragraph 2
A.Guilt. B.Hope. C.Admiration. D.Surprise.
56.What mainly caused the author to be disconnected from home
A.Constant changes in Nepal.
B.Lack of channels of getting news.
C.Her tight schedule at school.
D.Different lifestyles at home and abroad.
57.What does the author think of her current life
A.It inspires her to try her best.
B.It should be treasured and appreciated.
C.It needs a change immediately.
D.It's similar to the life of other foreigners.

根据第一段中的“For me growing up, the festival... providing me with a day to play with color and water with my beloved family and friends”在我的成长过程中,这个尼泊尔传统节日的地域意义不大,很大程度上是文化的,让我有一天可以和我爱的家人和朋友一起玩颜色和水。
根据第二段中的“being away from home means being disconnected from cultural traditions.” 故选A。
根据第三段中的“I don’t know how to do a better job of keeping up to date with everything when focused on classes and work, and adjusting to college life.”我不知道怎样才能在专注于课堂和工作,适应大学生活的同时,更好地跟上所有事情的进展;以及“Keeping up with news from home, however, requires the extra individual effort I just can’t spare time for while dealing with everything else I have to do here.”
根据最后一段中的“But with the opportunity to celebrate the festival away from home with friends at the university and learn to forgive myself for not staying up to date with what's happening in my country, I know what I have at present is exactly what I need to hold dear and deserves my deep gratefulness.”
D
There's no doubt that our character has a profound effect on our future. What we must remember, however, is not merely how powerful character is in influencing our fate, but how powerful we are in shaping our own character and, therefore, our own fate. Character may determine our fate, but character is not determined by fate.
It's a common mistake to think of character as something that is fully formed and fixed very early in life. It calls to mind old proverbs like "A leopard (猎豹) can't change its spots" and" You can't teach an old dog new tricks. "
This perspective that our character is etched in stone is supported by a great deal of modern psychology emphasizing self-acceptance. As Popeye says," I am what I am." The hidden message is: don't expect me to be more, better, or different.
Ultimately, these views of humanity totally undervalue the lifelong potential for growth that comes with the power of reflection and choice.
How depressing it would be to believe that we can't choose to be better, more honest, more respectful, more responsible, and more caring. None of us should give up the personal seeking to improve our character. Not because we're bad, we don't have to be sick to get better, but because we're not as good as we could be.
There are so many things in life we can't control, whether we're beautiful or smart, whether we had good parents or bad, whether we grew up with affirmation or negation. It's inspiring to remember that nothing but moral will power is needed to make us better.
No, it isn't easy. But if we make a great effort to become more aware of the habits of heart and mind that drive our behavior, we can begin to place new emphasis on our higher values so that we become what we want our children to think we are.
58.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 mean
A.is carved in the stone with knives.
B.is controlled by oneself.
C.can be better and different.
D.can't be changed easily.
59.Which of the following would the writer agree with
A.A leopard can't change its spots.
B.We must attach importance to self-acceptance.
C.We should value our lifelong potential for growth.
D.We should make choices constantly.
60.What do we need to improve ourselves according to the author
A.Our smartness. B.Our will power.
C.Our fate. D.Our character.
61.What is the best title of the passage
A.Character can be fixed once formed B.Character determines our fate.
C.We shape our own character. D.Changing our character isn't easy.
【答案】58.D

根据第三段中的“As Popeye says, ‘I am what I am.’ The hidden message is: Don't expect me to be more, better, or different.”
根据第四段中的“Ultimately, these views of humanity totally undervalue the lifelong potential for growth that comes with the power of reflection and choice.”
根据第五段中的“None of us should give up the personal seeking to improve our character”最终,这些人性观完全低估了伴随着反思和选择的力量而来的终身成长潜力。

A
Beginning 2020, the fifth generation of wireless technology is expected to be widely used throughout the world.
B

A.The COVID- 19 will soon be wiped out.
B.Medical workers are making equipment.
C.Healthcare equipment has been made in large quantities.
D.Innovators rely on technology to solve medical problems.
