Many workers have had no choice but to adapt to working from home in recent months since offices shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠疫情). And the noisy situation and endless housework may result in a terrible emotion. A new option is waiting for you. That is WFH: work from a hotel.

According to Managing Director Connie Wang, the set-up launched in June and is a great opportunity to get out of their houses with high-speed Wi-Fi, unlimited printing privileges and free parking. Hotels By Day
Yannis Moati founded Hotels By Day back in 2015. That company has grown to include more than 1,500 hotels, and has seen a significant increase in the number of inquiries for day-use bookings lately.

Chen Xingrong, 16, was born with autism (自闭症). “We did not understand why such a thing would happen to us,” says Chen’s father Chen Xunhu. He quit his job at a computer company and devoted his full attention to helping his son. In 2012, Chen Xunhu learned that swimming could help people with autism improve their articulation (发音) and physical growth, so he spent months teaching his son to swim.
“The efforts made no difference in the first three months,” he recalls. To his surprise, after another three months, he discovered that his son had developed the ability to control his breath under water, which significantly boosted his confidence. “I used to plan all his exercises for him, but now it is all up to him,” says the father. “He decides how many exercises he wants to do, and we respect his choices.” In spite of all the hardships in life, Chen Xingrong managed to become an outstanding swimmer, thanks to constant training and the support of his parents. Last year, he won five medals, including a gold, at the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the eighth National Special Olympic Games.
In 2010, an autism-themed film, titled Ocean Heaven, hit the big screen in China. It describes how a dying father attempts to teach his son the necessary life skills to live without him. “My wife and I watched the film in the theater,” he says. “We wept uncontrollably because we could resonate with the film’s characters.”
Since then, as well as swimming, helping his son learn basic life skills is also an important aim for the father. Thanks to his efforts, Chen Xingrong has learned to buy food in the market in their neighborhood. He also does voluntary jobs at supermarkets and fast-food restaurants, such as arranging shelves and cleaning dining tables. “He is part of the community, and I hope he will live a normal life in the future. There is nothing that we want more than that,” says Chen Xunhu.
24.Why did Chen Xingrong’s father arrange swimming exercises for him
A.To realise his potential of swimming. B.To develop his ability to breathe.
C.To become a well-known athlete. D.To overcome his autism-related problems.
25.What made Chen Xingrong’s success
A.His father’s professional instruction. B.His determination and his parents’ love.
C.His physical disability and hardship in life. D.His own special gift for swimming.
26.What does the underlined word “resonate” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Work together. B.Get along. C.Fall in love. D.Share common feelings.

Italy's fashion capital is gray — not only because of the blocks of stone buildings, but also due to its often-gray sky, which traps pollution. But Milan now wants to change it.
The city has an ambitious plan to plant 3 million new trees by 2030 - a move that experts say could offer relief from the city's hot weather. Some projects have already contributed to environmental improvements. Architect Stefano Boeri’s Vertical Forest residential (居民的) tower, completed in 2014, aims to improve not only air quality but the quality of life for Milan residents. Boeri created a small island of greenery in the heart of Milan, filling every balcony with plants that absorb carbon dioxide.
“I think forestation is one of the best chances that we have today. It is one of the most effective ways we have to fight climate change, because everyone can plant trees,” Boeri said.
Damiano Di Simine, a member of the environmental group Legambiente , said the green Milan project will lower temperatures in a city where the nighttime temperature can be 6 degrees Celsius higher than in the surrounding area. City show that Milan experiences 35 hot nights a year. Because the city lies close to the Alps, Milin gets very little wind to lower the city's temperatures. "Planting trees will help this," Di said.
The Vertical Forest has attracted more than 20 species of birds. And the shade provided by the 800 trees and 15,000 plants means that residents rarely have to put on air conditioning, even in hot summers. The Vertical Forest's total greenery- can absorb 30 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year. The presence of green trees has a very important effect on people's health and psychological state, as has already been proved.
28.What change does Milan plan to make
A.Planting more trees. B.Creating a new fashion style.
C.Pulling down more gray stone buildings. D.Doing more surveys to study global warming.
29.What's Boeri's opinion on the city's plan
A.It costs a lot. B.It is unpractical.
C.It fails to attract people's attention. D.It is helpful to fight against climate change.
30.What is Di Simine's attitude toward the city's plan
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive.
C.Disappointed. D.Unconcerned.
31.What does the last paragraph focus on
A.Specifics of the city's plan. B.Challenges faced by the city.
C.The aim of the Vertical Forest project. D.The positive effect of the Vertical Forest project.
D
Have you ever spent half an hour searching the Internet which, as you find out afterwards, lasted three hours, or opened a book shortly after breakfast and a little while later noticed that the room was getting darker
Most people can remember experiencing such a state. Your mind wasn't wandering; you were totally focused and concentrated on that activity, to such an extent that you were not even aware of yourself. Psychologists call these fully absorbing experiences flow states, which were discovered and named by a world-famous psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. His celebrated book Flow: The Psychology of Happiness became an instant best-seller, making its way to the top self-help classics.
The state of flow happens under very specific conditions-when we encounter a challenge that is testing for our skills, and yet our skills and capacities are such that it is just about possible to meet this challenge. So both the challenge and the skills are at high levels, stretching us almost to the limit. If challenges exceed skills, one can become anxious. If skills exceed challenges, we usually become bored. Neither of these two cases result in flow.
What is also interesting in flow is the almost total absence of emotions during the actual process. One seems to be almost beyond experiencing emotions, most likely because the awareness of self is not present. Mihaly himself is also very much aware of the potential negative impact of the flow. One philosopher once describes his own experience of flow: “When I get totally involved in the conversation, I am not aware of myself, the world around or the passage of time. Sometimes, I may become addictive to that existence, unwilling to cope with other daily routines of life, like forgetting dinner, and saying goodbye to my children.”
32.What is the purpose of Paragraph 1
A.To offer a general background of the topic. B.To make an overall outline for the passage.
C.To introduce the topic of the passage. D.To clarify the definition of the topic.
33.In which of the following experience can we enter "flow state"
A.Adopting a dog. B.Watching TV.
C.Playing the chess. D.Arguing with others.
34.What can we infer from the third paragraph
A.The state of flow is little conditional. B.Genius at normal schools often gets bored.
C.Challenges at high levels push us to the limit. D.Skills play the most important part in flow.
35.Why does the writer quote the philosopher's words
A.To show the drawbacks of the flow. B.To stress the value of self-awareness.
C.To underline the absence of emotions. D.To indicate the difficulty of enjoying the flow.

第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Having learned that English volunteer guides for the Forbidden City are wanted, I feel it’s the very thing I like to do during the summer vacation. Therefore, I’m writing to apply for the position.
I’m a Senior 2 student in Hongxing Middle School, and I’m convinced I’m qualified for the position. These years, I have been on several exchange programs in America, granting me the ability of communicating with foreigners in English with great fluency. Apart from that, as a fan of Chinese ancient history and architecture, I have a deep understanding of the Forbidden City, including its history and collections, which will prove helpful when I introduce it to foreign guests.
Should you take my application into account, I would be most grateful.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua
