2. The elephant is one of Thailand’s symbols.
one of ... 意为“……之一”，后跟可数名词复数或代词的宾格形式。“one of + the +形容词最高级+可数名词复数”表示“最……之一”。

One of them is good at English. 他们当中的一个人擅长英语。
Lucy is one of the tallest girls in our class.

3. People say that “an elephant never forget”.
forget v. 遗忘；忘记
Don’t forget to close the window. 不要忘记关窗户。
常用结构：
① forget to do sth 忘记要做某事(事情还没做)
② forget doing sth 忘记做过某事(事情已经做过了)
I forget closing the door. 我忘记已经关上门了。
4. Elephants can walk for a long time and never get lost.
(1) for a long time 意为“长时间”，“for+一段时间”表示某动作或状态持续一段时间，对其提问要用how long “多长时间”。

--You can keep it for two days. 你可以借两天。
(2) for 的其它常见用法：
We eat eggs for breakfast. 我们早餐吃鸡蛋。

①表示“当作；作为”。
②表示理由或原因，
意为“因为；由于”。
③表示目的，意为“为了”。
He does it for fun.
他做那件事是为了娱乐。
④表示对象、用途等，意为“对，给，供”。

5. They can also remember places with food and water.
(1) with food and water意为“有食物和水”，在句中作后置定
语，其中with是介词，意为“具有；带有”。with后接名词，
构成介词短语，修饰前面的名词。
He looked at her with a hurt expression.
他带着受伤害的神情看着她。
He is a boy with glasses. 他是一个戴眼镜的男孩。
(2) with 的其它常见用法：
I’m in Class Eight with Bill. 我和比尔在八班。
① 和......在一起
② 构成的介词短语可作状语，表示动作伴随等。
③ 意为“用”，表示使用工具、手段等。
Miss Li walks into the classroom with a smile on her face.
李老师面带笑容地走进教室。
You can only write with a pen. 你只能用钢笔写。
6. But elephants are in great danger.
(1) be in (great) danger 处于(极大)危险之中，反义短语为be
out of danger 脱离危险
danger n. 危险
dangerous adj. 危险的
(2) “in + 抽象名词”表示“处于......状态中”。
in peace 平静 in trouble 处于麻烦中
in order 井然有序 in good health 身体健康
The old man is in great danger. 这位老人面临着很大的危险。
The doctor says he is out of danger now.
医生说他现在脱离危险了。
It’s dangerous for people to swim in that river.
对于人们来说在那条河里游泳是危险的。
The doctor is old, but he is in good health.
那位医生年事已高，但是他身体健康。
7. People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes.
cut down 意为“砍到”。其宾语如果是名词，可以放在cut和down中间，也可以放在down后面；宾语如果是代词，必须放在cut与down中间。
People here usually cut down trees (/cut trees down) to make their houses.
这儿的人们通常砍伐树木造房子。
Trees are good for our environment, so we shouldn’t cut them down.
树木有益于我们的环境，所以我们不应砍伐它们。
其他短语：cut back 削减 cut up 切碎 cut off 中断 cut in 插嘴
8. Today there are only about 3,000 elephants (over 100,000 before).
over prep. 超过；多于 相当于more than

made of ... 意为“由......制成的”，表示被动的含义，过去分词短语作后置定语。
