人类对于火星的探测起步于20世纪60年代，到今年6月底，共进行了44次探火活动，美国21次，苏俄19次，日本1次，欧洲2次，印度1次，其中完全成功的探测任务只有19次，成功率仅仅为43%，因此探测火星十分不易。大量迹象表明，火星以前很有可能和现在的地球一样，只不过经过几十亿年的演化今天这个样子。经过多年对火星的探索研究，在火星上发现了有水存在的证据，而且间接的推测出了火星可能存在一定有机物分子，这为探究火星上有无生命以及生命存在的形式类型提供了基础依据。
