Both of my parents worked full-time when I was a little girl, so my grandmother would stay at our house during the day. We would watch game shows in the living room. Our favorite show was The Price is Right. We would call our answer along with the contestants. Laughter filled the tiny but warm house.
When I got older and started going to school, we couldn’t watch our game shows together regularly. That was okay with me, though, because one thing I liked better than watching game shows with my grandmother was helping her bake cakes. Watching her in the kitchen was amazing: she walked around the kitchen, busy but delighted. she never seemed to need the recipes(食谱) and everything she made tasted delicious.
At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch. Even though I didn’t understand what she was doing, I really enjoyed watching her and waiting for the cakes. As I got older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring the sugar. The day she let me separate the eggs, I felt like I had found complete pleasure.
Later my parents decided that I could take care of myself and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up burnt sometimes. More often they turned out pretty well. I tried out new recipes, and whenever I got to a thorny part, I would call my grandmother for advice and she would always give lots of useful advice patiently. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything.
My grandmother passed away ten years ago, but I still think of her every day. Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me in her bedroom. It included her recipes for brownies, cookies and my favorite, lemon pie. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could hear her voice and see her smile. She was the one who taught me not just about baking. but about life.
I would never forget my loving grandmother and the “treasure” she had given me.

A. knew the writer’s taste well B. taught the writer some life lessons
C. wanted to sell the recipe for money D. thought the writer was unable to bake

I think there are several reasons that suggest developing robots is a waste of money. In San Diego recently $ 325,000 was spent on inventing a robotic squirrel to do some scientific experiments. The research proved that squirrels are able to scare away snakes by wagging(摇动) their tails. Do you need a robotic squirrel to work this out
What about AIBO, a robotic pet, developed in Japan In Japanese aibou means "buddy". These pets have been developed at huge cost mainly to provide entertainment(娱乐). They've been used in movies and music videos. Universities have used them for educational purposes. However, in 2006 the company stopped producing these robotic pets in order to save money. Was it worth a lot of money
Then there's NAO, a robot which has been developed by a French company. Its main purpose is to make life easier for humans. It speaks 19 languages and has its own personality. It can tell children a story, help in the classroom or the home, or act as a companion to those people who need someone to be with. A fully developed one costs $16,000. Is that value for money Who can afford it anyway
There may be good reasons why it is worth developing robots, but so far I haven't thought of any.
51. What does the underlined word "companion" in Paragraph 4 mean in Chinese
A.公司 B.机构 C.对手 D.伙伴
52. What is the true fact about the robots mentioned
A. The robotic squirrel is needed by every scientist to do some research.
B. AIBO wasn't made any more because it only provided entertainment.
C. A fully developed NAO may tell kids stories in different languages.
D. All the three types of robots used to be produced at a very low cost.
53. What does the writer think of developing robots
A. It can help bring people a lot of fun.
B.It may be useful but costs too much.
C. It has advantages in many ways.
D. It is worth a great deal of money.
D
In Western society, especially in the English-speaking world, the chance for young people to see the other countries and experience life is considered important. Many young people, when they finish school at the age of 18, take a gap year before they go to university.
Parents often want their children to grow up a little and see what the real world is like when they finish school. Although they are worried about their safety, many think that the advantages of independence(独立) and experience are worth the worries. Children are encouraged to be brave, independent and to explore the world on their own or with friends.
Young people also want to experience freedom and see what life is like on the other side. This other side could be the other side of the world or just the other side of life. For example, if they have a rich life, they may want to see how people in poor areas live.
A gap year after school is also an important chance for young people to spend time thinking about what they want to do with their lives. A little bit of growing up and experience will help them make their important career decisions, especially when they are unsure about what they want to study.
Another reason for going straight after school is to get a break from studying before they start the next few years of university. So anywhere you travel in the world, you will meet young European people exploring the world.
So much of the world has been travelled and explored. The young people are now looking for more worthy experiences. Some of them work as volunteers to do something for the country they are visiting. Many gap year volunteers are now spending a few months teaching English in Thailand, helping feed giant pandas in China or building a well(井) in a village in Africa.
These young people’s wish to explore the world is an expression of the values of the societies that they are part of. Both discovering the world and making a positive difference in it are important parts of the Western mind.
54. Which is NOT a reason for young people to take a gap year
A. Young people want to take a break from studying.
B. Young people want to be sure about what to study.
C. Parents encourage them to be brave and independent.
D. Parents encourage them to live a free and wealthy life.
55. Now a gap year volunteer might do something more valuable like .
A. experiencing different cultures B. helping protect rainforests in Brazil
C. making friends with more people D. enjoying traditional local food
56. By taking a gap year, young people may .
A. stay with their parents all the time B. make money for their further study
C. help change the world for the better D. change the Western mind completely
57. The purpose of writing this article is to .
A. show different opinions about gap year B. offer readers information about gap year
C. discover new ways to take a gap year D. tell young people when to take a gap year

It’s OK to say you’ve never heard of grime(伦敦地下音乐)—unless you’re from the UK. That’s because this music type was invented in the UK in the early 2000s.
To someone who doesn’t know much about underground music culture, it’s not easy to tell the difference between hip-hop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn’t even want to know it, until earlier this month when grime stars like Stormzy and Hus led this year’s Mobo—“music of black origin”, an award in the UK. Just like UK electronic music and hip-hop, from which grime drew influence, it mostly shows the thoughts of young people. But different from hip-hop, grime singers sing in dialects(方言) with strong accents, giving a special taste to their songs.
Lady Leshurr, known as the “Grime Queen”, said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn’t want to be laughed at. But one day, she realized that she didn’t need to change herself just to please others. And there’s no doubt that this is the soul(灵魂) of grime music: be yourself.
Grime has challenged modern music in its expressions. It is also different from the hip-hop culture, which is mainly about being rich. Grime singers pay more attention to what happens in society like those who are badly influenced by disasters and the gap between the rich and the poor.
Although still quite a young music type, grime seems to be getting loved by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating big names like David Bowie and Radiohead.
However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted widely or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves.

The Person I Want to Thank
In my junior school life, many people have helped me. I thank them very much. But the person I want to thank most is my English teacher Miss Lee.
Miss Lee is beautiful with long hair. And she is kind. She helps me a lot. She often helps me with my English. When I am in trouble, she always encourages me to face my difficulties and gives me good advice. I still remember that once I failed in an important English exam and was upset. She has a great influence on me, and her help is very useful for my future development.
