Last week, City Daily did a survey about “How do Chinese people celebrate the Spring Festival?” and “How do Americans celebrate Christmas?” About 500 Chinese people and 300 Americans took part in the online survey. Here are the results.
Such a survey can be naturally connected with the importance of the Spring Festival for Chinese people, but what results in these differences To my understanding, at least two reasons can explain this result. For one thing, Chinese people have a strong sense of family, which enables many people to celebrate the Spring Festival together with family members or relatives.
For another, compared with the past, some people are richer, and they have more freedom (自由) during the vacation. So, many people choose to celebrate this holiday by travelling. As for Americans, they prefer travelling. In fact, Americans like travelling on vacations, not only Christmas. Americans like exercising. There are no parks with fitness equipment (健身器材) in the US. So, they pay money to go to the gym.
44. 13% of Americans choose ________ to celebrate Christmas.
A. travelling
B. staying at home
C. studying or exercising
D. visiting relatives and friends
45. [跨学科综合题]About ________ Chinese people visit relatives or friends during the Spring Festival.
A. 265 B. 135 C. 80 D. 20
46. Why do Chinese people choose to travel during the Spring Festival
A. Because they prefer to travel.
B. Because they want to exercise.
C. Because they can afford to travel, and they have days off.
D. Because they think travelling is more exciting than visiting relatives or friends.
47. What can we know from the passage
A. The survey is done in the school.
B. Chinese have a strong sense of family.
C. There is enough fitness equipment in the parks in the US.
D. Americans prefer the Spring Festival rather than Christmas.
C
I'm writing this article in China, far away from my home—the United States. You might wonder what I do to my mom on Mother's Day. Well, I certainly call her to say “Happy Mother's Day” and promise that I will visit home soon.
I still remember the first time I forgot Mother's Day. When I finally figured__it__out,__I asked, “Why does Mom get a special holiday Why don't we celebrate Children's Day for kids?”
My mom explained in the way that only moms seem to be able to explain, “Because Children's Day is every day!”
I knew I had messed up. I thought about all the love my mom had given me. I thought about the food she had made, the toys she had bought and the long hours she had spent with me. There might not be a perfect mom, but there is Mom's love, which can fix anything.
After that day, for 364 days, I was looking forward to the next Mother's Day.
That was the first year I forgot Mother's Day. It was also the last year I forgot.
Are you struggling to consider what to do for your mom on Mother's Day Common things are to write a message that thanks for the love she has given you, send her a card or buy her a gift. But the most important thing is—DON'T FORGET!

B. to explain why there isn't a Children's Day
C. to advise us not to forget to keep our own promises
D. to remind us to remember the love Mom has given us

It's great to receive your letter. Knowing that you're interested in Chinese red, I'm writing to tell you something about it. Chinese red is one of the most popular colours in China. It stands for happiness and it stands for good luck too. There are a lot of festivals in China. Of all the festivals we like the Spring Festival best.( It usually comes in January or February. All the family members come back home and get together.) During the Spring Festival, we first put on paper cuts on the doors, windows or walls. Then we hang lanterns above the doors. Children are very happy because they often get red packets from their parents or their relatives and friends.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
