I. Teaching aims:

II. Teaching procedures:
Step I. presentation
What historical sites will you think of when a place is mentioned?
Step II. Reading
Task: Ask students to read the Bell Tower, and get relevant information.
Step III. Grammar
Practice: translate and make similar sentences using object complement: “consider… a wise choice”, “find it necessary/ important to do sth”, “enable sb. to do sth.”, and “make sb. do sth.”.
Consolidation:
Present the definition of object complement.
Present 5 typical sentences from the Bell Tower.
Summarize 5 parts that can be used as object complement.
Step IV. Debate
Prepare viewpoints in groups for 3 minutes.
Debate using object complement.
Write down key viewpoints on the blackboard.
Step V. Writing
Write down your viewpoints on whether we should spend much money in repairing historical sites.
1) Practice: write in 6 minutes.
2) Feedback: read out the composition.
Homework:
1. Polish your writing and finish your composition.

The Bell Tower in Jinling High School
The Bell Tower of Nanking University, also called Fowler Biblical School(福勒教会学校), is believed to be a logo of Jinling High School as well as Nanjing Education. The Bell Tower constructed in North America style is considered to be the oldest Christian building in Nanjing. Also, the 3-storied building was definitely tallest at that time.
No wonder the former students said that they felt excited and proud when walking around it. With the bell ringing, they also found it interesting that people from half of the Nanjing city could hear the bell.
Later,the Bell Tower was becoming more famous. During Anti-Japanese War, it was made a shelter (避难所) for refugees (难民),similar to the story in the movie the Flowers of War.
After being used for a couple of years, the big bell was out of work, so we had the 1.4-meter-wide bell mended. Later on, the Bell Tower was turned into a school history museum, enabling us to have more knowledge of the past.
In 2006, the Bell Tower was put under State protection. We all consider it an honor to show it to visitors. Now the Bell Tower is made an administration building, while the ringing of the bell still makes us to think of its past glory(光荣).
