情态动词could
情态动词could用于有礼貌地提出要求或请求准许，用于疑问句，代替can, 在时间上与can没有区别，但语气要比can委婉、有礼貌。回答时要用can，不能用could.
◎礼貌地提出要求
1. 句型“Could you do... /Could you please do... ”意为“请你做……好吗 ”或“麻烦你做……好吗 ”
-Could you please take out the rubbish 请你倒一下垃圾好吗
-Yes, sure. 好的,当然。
--Could you please take the dog for a walk 请你带狗出去遛遛好吗
-OK, but I want to watch one show first. 好的,但我想先看个节目。
2.对于这种请求的肯定与否定回答
(1)肯定回答:Certainly./Of course./ With pleasure./No problem./Yes, sure. 等。
(2)否定回答:No, I can't./Certain利用not. /No, I'm afraid I can't. 等。
◎表示请求许可
1. 句型“Could I do.. ”意为“让我做……好吗 ”或“我可以做……吗 ”。
-Could I go out for dinner with my friends tonight 今天晚上我可以和朋友一起外出吃饭吗
-Sure, that should be OK. 当然,那应该是可以的。
-Could we get something to drink after the movie 看完电影后我们可以喝点东西吗
-No, you can't. You have a basketball game tomorrow. 不,你不可以。明天你有一场篮球比赛。
2.另外,用“Could I do ”表示请求对方准许时，对方回答不能用could,而要用can。
-Could I use your bicycle 我可以用你的自行车吗
-Yes, of course you can.是的,当然可以。
用法拓展
◆could 可用作can 的过去式,表示“能,会”。
She could swim at the age of seven. 她七岁就会有游泳。
◆could表示可能性:指对将来、现在或者过去某种可能性的推测,比can的可能性弱。
My wife is in hospital—our baby could arrive at any time.
我妻子住院了—我们的宝宝随时都可能出生。
◆could用在肯定句中,可表示提出建议,比can语气更加委婉。
You could buy a tie as your father's birthday gift.
