Unit 12 What did you do last weekend
(Section A 1a-1c)
Grade level: 7th grade
Objectives:
Students will be able to talk about their past weekend activities using the past tense.
Students will be able to ask and answer questions about past weekend activities.
Materials:
Pictures of different weekend activities
Whiteboard and markers
Handouts with vocabulary related to weekend activities
Worksheets with dialogue for discussing past weekend activities
Warm-up:
Show pictures of different weekend activities on the board (e.g. playing sports, watching movies, shopping, etc.) and ask students to name them.
Presentation:
Introduce vocabulary related to weekend activities using pictures and descriptions of different activities. Go through each item several times until students are comfortable with the pronunciation and meaning.
Model how to talk about past weekend activities using past tense verbs. For example, "I watched a movie with my family on Saturday night." "I went shopping with my friends on Sunday afternoon."
Discuss the importance of using past tense verbs to describe actions and events that have already happened.
Practice:
Have students work in pairs to practice discussing their past weekend activities using the dialogue provided on the worksheet.
Distribute handouts with vocabulary related to weekend activities and have students match them up with the correct pictures.
Have students write a short paragraph about their favorite weekend activity.
Production:
Ask students to share their favorite weekend activity in front of the class.
Have a few students role-play a conversation about their past weekend activities in front of the class.
Assessment:
Observe students during the practice and production stages to assess their ability to use past tense verbs accurately. The written paragraph can also be assessed for accuracy.
Extension:
Have students write a short story about a fictional weekend they would like to have.
Have students create a collage of pictures and captions from their past weekend activities.
Play a game where students take turns describing a past weekend activity and the other students have to guess what they did.
Have students research a popular weekend activity in a different country and create a presentation or poster about it, including pictures and interesting facts.
Homework:
For homework, students can be assigned the following tasks:
Write a reflection on their favorite part of their past weekend and why they enjoyed it.
Create a journal entry for a fictional weekend they would like to have, including descriptions of their activities and how they felt about them.
Watch a video or read an article about a popular weekend activity and write a summary of what they learned.
Write a letter to a friend asking about their past weekend activities and sharing their own experiences.
Research a popular weekend activity in their own community and create a presentation or poster about it, including pictures and interesting facts.
