1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was excited as I walked into the classroom. Today was my birthday! I set down the box of treats I had brought for the class. Birthdays were a big deal in our classroom. The birthday person brought treats for the class, and he or she got to choose someone our teacher called "the birthday helper" to pass them out. My friends, Andrea, Crystal and I had talked about choosing each other on our birthdays. I still hadn't decided which of my two best friends I was going to choose. I knew both of them were expecting me to pick them, but I just couldn't decide. I didn't want either one of them to be mad at me.
A loud shout stopped my thoughts. "Hi, April!" shouted Lisa.
No one liked Lisa. She had dirty hair that looked like it always needed to be washed. The kids made fun of her a lot. She annoyed me sometimes, too, but I tried to be nice to her.
"Did you bring treats today "
"Yes," I answered. "Today is my birthday!"
Lisa's parents were divorced (离婚的), and her dad gave her and her mom lots of problems. Lisa once told me that I was the only friend she had. At times I felt embarrassed (尴尬的) to hang out with her, but she never seemed to notice when I didn't want her around.
The bell rang, and we quickly went to our seats. Our teacher, Mrs. Doughty, started class, and I pushed aside my thoughts. The rest of the morning flew by, and soon it was time for the lunch break.
Mrs. Doughty announced (宣布) that today was my birthday. I forced a smile, but my stomach turned over. I retrieved (取回) my cupcakes at the back of the room and slowly went to stand beside Mrs. Doughty. I didn't know what to do! Should I choose Andrea or Crystal
Then Lisa caught my attention.
"No one ever chooses me on their birthday!" she said loudly. Her face looked so sad. I saw the hurt she felt from the rejection (嫌弃) she constantly faced from our classmates.

Suddenly, I knew my decision.
……
Just before I rushed out to catch the bus after school, Lisa stopped me.
【答案】 Suddenly, I knew my decision. I told Mrs. Doughty that Lisa would be my birthday helper. Lisa's eyes were wide with surprise. She looked at me, her mouth hanging open. "Really " she asked in a low voice. I smiled brightly and nodded. Lisa got out of her seat and rushed to my side. She looked so proud to stand beside me as we passed out the treats. I saw my two best friends' angry looks from across the room. I knew they were mad, but I knew I had done the right thing.
Just before I rushed out to catch the bus after school, Lisa stopped me. Her face brightened with happiness. She threw her arms around my neck and hugged me. "April, you are the best friend I've ever had!" she told me. All I could do was smile and hug her back. I felt so good inside! As I watched Lisa run down the hall, happiness filled my heart. This had turned out to be a wonderful birthday after all.

2. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
When I was about six years old, my family and I went to Disneyland one weekend and had a wonderful day full of excitement. Little did I know that the real excitement wasn't to begin until that night.
While we watched the fireworks, I began to get an urge to go to the restroom, but I didn't want to miss the show. I overheard my sister Isabel talking to my mom, and I got closer to them to hear what they were talking about.
"Mom, I'm going to the bathroom with Lizette, okay " said Isabel.
"Okay," my mom replied, "but stay together. I don't want any of you getting lost. "
The second I saw my sisters leaving, I didn't think twice before running after them—without telling my parents. As I followed them through the huge crowd of people, I started to lose sight of them. I began to panic as I scanned the crowd for them. Crazy thoughts ran through my head like "What if I never see my family again "
I gave up trying to find my sisters and tried to get back to my family, but I was completely mixed up. After searching for what seemed like forever, I couldn't hold back my tears, and I started crying like I had never cried before.
"Mommy!" I cried out. But everyone around me was too caught up by the fireworks to pay any attention to me.
I tried to stop the scary thoughts that were going through my head and started running as fast as I could...anywhere...everywhere. I was going crazy. I'm only six, and I've gotten lost. "What have I done How could I have been so dumb to run off without telling anyone " I thought.
With my face wet from tears, I kept running, pulling at people's pants and crying, "Mommy!" I was hoping, wishing, that one of these adults would be one of my parents.

Luckily, I felt a pat on my shoulder and a gentle voice came, "Are you lost "
……
Finally, through the crowd of people, I recognized a face.
【答案】 Luckily, I felt a pat on my shoulder and a gentle voice came, "Are you lost" "Yeeesss!" I cried. It was a lady working at Disney. She picked me up and carried me through the crowd as she kept asking me where my parents had been standing. As I began to feel safe in the lady's arms, I calmed down and thought for a few minutes. I remembered we had been leaning against a wooden fence. She carried me around the wooden fence, asking random people, "Is this your child " "No. Sorry," everyone kept saying. You're sorry Look at me. I'm looking for my mommy, I thought.
Finally, through the crowd of people, I recognized a face. I was so happy. "Mommy!" I shouted as I pointed toward her so the lady could carry me to her. When the lady put me down, I ran to my mom and gave her a huge hug. I couldn't let go of her. I didn't want to lose her again. As I cried in my mother's arms, my family thanked the nice lady for everything she had done for me. For the rest of the evening and the entire next day, I was more concerned with making sure that my parents were within my sight at all times than I was with seeing the sights at Disneyland. I look back at these memories and laugh at myself, but to this day, I always make sure to tell someone where I am going before I run off.

3. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Shoes are made for walking.
But Aamir, a homeless Indian boy, doubted it. Wandering the noisy railway platform, he found one of his flip-flops (人字拖鞋) broken again. He hurried to a corner, sat down and tried to fix it, his bare foot pressing awkwardly against the ground. However, it was beyond repair.
He gave up and looked around aimlessly, staring at people's shoes. Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to two boyish legs wearing flawlessly white socks and equally perfect black leather shoes, which were glittering in the mid-day sun. It was a boy of his age. He couldn't treasure his possession too much, obviously, because every ten seconds, he stopped, bent down and carefully wiped a dust or two from his shoes. His father was constantly glancing over and urging him, "Hurry up! The train is coming!"
Aamir's eyes followed the father and son, but mostly the leather shoes, as if enchanted (被施魔法的). Imagining himself wearing them, the comfort from the good leather, jaw-dropping look on his friends' faces, he couldn't help cracking a big smile.
The bell of the train drew him back; the fancy-shoe boy and his father were about to get aboard. They tried to crowd into the doorway. However, the instant the boy entered the compartment (车厢), one of his shoes fell off and before he could pick it up, the train began to pull away.
The shoe was now lying alone on the platform. Aamir's eyes lit up with excitement. Like an arrow, he shot for the shoe and then picked it up, holding it with both hands as if holding the Queen's crown. After a few seconds of hesitating and looking from the shoe to the train and back, he began racing--with only one good shoe, his flip-flop.
He held the leather shoe up, trying to pass it to the boy through the window, who was desperately reaching out his hand as well. However, it was never close enough.
Para 1: That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train.
Para 2: But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window.
【答案】 That left Aamir no choice but to throw the shoe onto the train. With his eyes fixed on the window, Aamir put all his strength in his right hand and made a powerful throw. However, he abruptly fell off because of the broken flip-flop. Without a second thought, he tried again, the shoe just flew past the window frame and fell on the platform like a dead leaf. Seeing this, Aamir stamped his feet, wearing a frustrated look. "Are shoes really made for walking ", Aamir thought with depression. He drooped his head, not knowing what to do next.
But when he raised his head, Aamir saw the other shoe thrown out of the window. Miraculously, it landed on the platform several steps away from him. Before he could look up again and seek out the fancy-shoe boy, the train sped on, vanishing in the distance. What remained in sight was the meandering rail track and the rolling mountains far away. Twenty years later, when he was launching his new footwear product at a press conference, wearing a pair of shining leather shoes, Aamir started his presentation with a simple sentence: "Shoes are made for walking."

My crippled (瘸腿) grandmother was dancing. I stood in the living room doorway, absolutely shocked. I heard her singing when I opened the door but did not want to interrupt her by shouting I had arrived. She was wearing beautiful dancing shoes and her legs obeyed her perfectly. As long as I could remember, she was once the pet of the dancing world. But it was all over after a sudden accident. She had always limped (一瘸一拐地走), helped by a cane (拐杖).
She turned around and saw me standing in the doorway. Her song ended, and her beautiful movements ended with it. Grandma turned towards the kitchen. She was walking with no difficulties in her beautiful shoes. I followed her, not believing my eyes.
"So…" I asked surprisedly but happily, "how did your leg heal(康复) "
"To tell you the truth—my leg has been well all my life," she said.
"But I don't understand!" I said. "I mean…You have pretended all these years "
"Very much so," Grandmother closed her eyes, "and for a very good reason."
"What reason "
"Your grandfather."
"You mean he told you not to dance "
"No, this was my choice. I am sure I would have lost him if I had continued dancing. I weighed fame (名声) against love and love won. "
"We were talking about the engagement (订婚) when your grandfather had to go to war. It was the most terrible day of my life when he left. I was so afraid of losing him, and the only way I could stay peaceful was to dance. And then one day a letter came. There were only three sentences: 'I have lost my leg. I am no longer a whole man and now give you back your freedom. It is best if you forget about me. ' "
Grandma continued to tell me that Grandfather was in hospital and she made her decision not to give him up. She took her leave, and traveled away from the city.
Paragraph 1:
Several weeks later, she returned.
Paragraph 2:
She took a deep breath, leaned on her cane and limped to Grandfather.
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Several weeks later, she returned. She had bought herself a cane and wrapped her leg tightly with bandages. She told everyone she had had a car crash and that her leg would never completely heal again. Her dancing days were over. No one suspected the story—she had learned to limp convincingly before she returned home. Then she traveled to the hospital. She saw my grandfather seated in his wheelchair with a cane on the ground nearby.
Paragraph 2:
She took a deep breath, leaned on her cane and limped to Grandfather. She told him she had an accident and a leg was injured seriously. She showed him two engagement rings she had bought the day after he left for the war. "I was not going to waste them on any other man," Grandma said to him. Then Grandfather bent to take his cane from the ground but Grandma was not going to help. And so he managed it on his own and never sat in a wheelchair again in his life.

5.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family has always loved going to Disneyland. So in 2001, when Disney announced that they were opening California Adventure, it was a big deal. I remember I was only six years old when I went there for the first time. I've been told that as a child I was very naughty and energetic, but always well-meaning. I got a lot of enjoyment from making people angry. This relates to going to California Adventure for the first time ever with my grandmother and it is my oldest memory with her.
On this fine day of fun and all things Disney, we reached the park's Ferris wheel, called the Sun Wheel (now Mickey's Fun Wheel). If you do not know what the Sun Wheel is, I can briefly explain: It is the most terrifying Ferris wheel. Why Well, the seat that you sit in, while 160 feet in the air, slides inwards and outwards as the wheel rotates (转动). If you rock it hard enough, it can almost do a complete 360-degree spin (旋转). This creates a terrifying experience because it is like a 160-fool-lall swing.
So I stood in line with my grandmother, and neither of us had any idea that this was not an ordinary Ferris wheel. After a long wait it was finally our turn to ride it. We sat inside and began to rise up and that's when I discovered the ride's special feature. I started with slow, easy rocking and my grandmother began to fear for her life. Worrying we would fall out, she asked me to stop.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Since I was a very naughty boy, I rocked it harder.
……
But to my surprise, my grandma actually enjoyed the terrifying experience with me.
【答案】 Since I was a very naughty boy, I rocked it harder. Each time I rocked harder, she asked me to stop. But I was having too much fun scaring her and swinging around. So what did I do I rocked it as hard as my little body could manage. It got to the point that my grandmother was yelling at the top of her voice, while kicking and screaming at me to stop. It was so much fun. The ride finished and I knew I was going to be in trouble.
But to my surprise, my grandma actually enjoyed the terrifying experience with me. I actually didn't get into trouble, but she vowed to never ride it with me again. To this day, my grandma and I still recall and laugh about our terrifying Sun Wheel experience. She's told me that she always thinks back to that moment when she thinks about how much I have changed since then, and I always think back to it as a fun experience with her that I will never forget.
Fach timeI rocked harder she asked me to stop.运用了时间状语从句:I rocked it as hard as my little body could manage.运用了比较状语从句:It got to the point that my grandmother was yellina at the top of her lunas. while kickina and screamina for me to stop.运用了同位语从句;The ride finished and I knew I was going to be in trouble.运用了并列句和宾语从句;I actually didn't get in trouble, but she vowed to never ride it with me again.运用了转折并列句;She's told me that she always thinks back to that moment when she thinks about how much I have changed since then, and I always think back to it as a fun experience with her that I will never forget.运用了宾语从句,限制性定语从句。

On a cold windy day, a poor boy tried to pay his way through school (支付学费) by selling goods door to door. Wandering on the street, he was not a successful seller. What's worse, he found that he only had one dime (一角硬币) left. His empty stomach reminded him constantly that for days he hadn't eaten anything. He had no choice but to beg for a meal at the next house.
Hesitantly he knocked at the door, thinking about what to say when it opened. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. "What can I do for you " asked the young woman. The boy paused for a while, "Would you please give me some…a drink of water " The boy dared not to look directly into her eyes. She looked at the bony boy and thought he might need something to give him energy so she brought him a glass of milk. His head rising and small hands taking the cup. He drank it up slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you " "You don't owe me anything," she replied with a warm smile on her face. "My mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness." Deeply moved, he said sincerely, "Then I shall thank you from the bottom of my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in God and the whole human race. As a matter of fact, he was about to give up and quit before that point.
Years later the young woman became seriously ill. However, the local doctors were unable to give the effective medical treatment. Finally they sent her to a hospital in the big city, where specialists can be called in to cure her rare disease. Among those famous specialists, Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation (会诊). When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. My dad got a new job. We had to pack up and move away from everything we were familiar with. There were so many changes. We came from the north, and now we were almost as far south as possible. We landed in South Florida, and we were total strangers. We moved over during the summer vacation, so I didn't have to deal with school right away. Summer passed by while we unpacked, arranged furniture, found stores we liked, and adapted to the Sunshine State.
School was coming, and I was afraid of it. I was not an adventurous person. Being shy and quiet, I read a lot and did not make friends easily. My head was filled with fears and worries. Would I make friends Would I fit in Would I survive in this strange new world Anyway, there I was, attending a new school full of people I didn't know.
I had a difficult time adapting to the new school. However, I still loved learning and reading. I even loved homework, and I was good at doing my homework. Loving books and reading helped me to get good grades. Teachers loved that about me. Other kids, though, did not. Although I always answered questions in class, I seldom talked with my classmates. I was unpopular. I felt like a total failure and nobody would like me.
Then one day, a tall boy walked over to me after an English class. He introduced himself and told me he was in the school basketball team. I knew him — he was the star player! "Hey," he said. "You do really well in English class. And you know, my teammates and I spend much time competing and practising. The subjects, especially English, really bother us. Do you think you could help us " "Yes. Oh, definitely yes. I could, and I would," I replied with surprise. We made the deal with an exchange of smiles.

I was backpacking in Panama over Christmas in 2018, and planned to climb Volcán Barú. It is one of the only places on earth from where you can see the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans at the same time.
I set off before sunrise. It was a bit cold, so I had pulled on leggings under my trousers. I've always felt safe travelling as a solo (单独) woman. I love the freedom. When I got to the base at 7 am, the ranger (护林员) was unwilling to let me go alone, but relented (缓和) because an American couple were behind me.
The first part of the climb was beautiful. I walked for an hour and had reached a fair height. The views were impressive, so I stopped to take a photograph. Suddenly I heard violent barking behind me.
I turned and saw two dogs running aggressively towards me. I could see their teeth looked sharp, and they looked angry. There was nowhere for me to run. I tried to keep calm, but my heart was racing. They stopped a dozen feet from where I stood and kept barking. I knew they could move fast, so I didn't want to try to outrun them.
I kept walking, saying, "Good dog, calm down, " as evenly as possible. But I was terrified. Then one dashed up and sunk his teeth into my leg below the knee. I was shocked. He held on for a few seconds. The pain took my breath away as I felt his fangs (犬牙) in my flesh. I considered bending down to get a rock to fight him off, but was nervous in case he went for my neck or the other one launched at me.
I tried to keep walking, and he finally let go. Then he was behind me, growling (嗥叫). I kept going, my body shaking, until after about 15 minutes I was out of their sight.
When I thought it was safe, I stopped.
A pickup truck appeared, driven by the ranger.
【答案】When I thought it was safe, I stopped. I rolled up my trousers and saw blood. The leggings had acted as a bit of a barrier but there were fang marks on the left side of my knee, seeping blood. I managed to stop the bleeding and cleaned up as best as I could with tissues from my bag. I couldn't walk up the volcano, but I couldn't go back down either because I'd have to pass them again. I imagined being stuck by myself all night. I was really scared. Suddenly I heard rustling and froze.
A pickup truck appeared, driven by the ranger. I must have been as white as a sheet. He told me to get in. The relief was unbelievable. A few minutes later, we saw the dogs in the road where I'd left them. As we drove past, they jumped up at the truck, growling. When we finally reached the gate, I saw the American couple. I learned it was they who told the ranger what had happened. I could never thank them enough for what they did for me. They saved my life!

Autumn was April's favourite time of the year and it was always the time of April's dreams, adventures, and discoveries.
One beautiful autumn morning April decided to ride her favourite horse, Buttercup, and explore some places usually well hidden from people's eyes. While riding Buttercup she came across an entrance to a cave. The sign said "Lush Cave. DO NOT ENTER!" April had always been curious and liked to explore new things. She got off Buttercup and went inside the cave. The path in the cave got narrower, so she left Buttercup and her saddlebag behind and then continued to walk.
While walking deeper into the cave, April regretted her choice and wanted to go back home but it was too late — the entrance to the cave got blocked and closed by a big rock accidentally falling from the top of the mountain. The cave was grim (阴森的) and scary, and the only sound that April could hear was the drip of water from the stalactites (钟乳石). The air was heavy and wet, and it was very difficult to breathe. The darkness was so thick that it was impossible to see more than a few meters in front of April.
Swallowed up by a merciless cave and surrounded by darkness, April lost her sense of time. Fear and terror crowded in. But she was determined to survive. She remembered her teacher's saying, "When you need to relax — imagine that you smell the flowers and blow the candles. Breathe." The meditation (冥想) technique helped a lot and April could stay calm and use as little air as possible. She lay still to conserve her strength. She did not have food, but she did have a supply of drinkable water dripping from the stalactites. There was also enough air for a while, because the cracks in the rocks meant air could come through.

Both Buttercup and April were happy to feel the presence of each other. She then got the matches from the saddlebag and lit them up. April slowly walked up to the entrance and touched the rock. She smiled.
Paragraph 2:
She figured out something to deal with the rock. She took a rope out of her saddlebag and then managed to tie it onto the rock, the other end to Buttercup. Optimistic and full of energy, April, with all the strength she had, pulled the rope together with Buttercup. And it moved a little! After ten minutes' effort, April and her Buttercup finally got out. She sighed with relief and delight, realizing the truth that a positive attitude, courage and calm can overcome hardships!

Summertime is lots of fun, but when it's too hot it can instead be very uncomfortable and dangerous.
When the temperature rose to 38℃ in Fort Worth Texas several years ago it was especially difficult for those who didn't have an air conditioner (空调). 95-year-old World War I soldier Julius Hatley was one of those who have to stand the burning heat. His air conditioner had broken and he was completely burning up.
Still, even at 95, he was doing everything he could to get by without help. Julius tried spending time under the trees in his garden—but at one point, he just couldn't take it any more. So he took action. Not knowing what else to do about the extreme heat, 95-year-old Hatley called his local Fort Worth, Texas police department.
William Margolis, was the officer on duty that day. He knew this was a common 911 call. For the police, Hatley's request was not an urgent call because there were more important and bigger event waiting for them to do. Still, Margolis and his partner Christopher Weir managed to spare time for a visit.
When they got there around 8:30 am, they found his house was 38℃ to 39℃ already. And the temperature was still rising. After checking the room for a little while, Margolis and Weir quickly discovered that both Hatley's central air conditioning and window unit were broken, leaving the man to suffer alone.
The two men didn't have a solution to Hatley's problem right then, but they promised they would find it out. It didn't take long, however, for Margolis to realize that he just couldn't shake the image of the poor, old man out of his head. He requested that he and Weir make a stop at a shop, where they could buy Hatley a new air conditioner themselves.

But the kindness didn't stop there.
……
The 95 year old was touched by all that they had done.
【答案】 But the kindness didn't stop there. What they didn't expect was that more people were to join in the kindness. While shopping, the officers told Hatley's problem to the shop assistants, asking them which models were best suited to his needs. Touched by the men's decision to buy the air conditioner themselves, the shop assistants also joined in, donating $150 towards the cause. Margolis and Weir invited another officer to help them fix the air conditioner in Hatley's house. And now they are working on getting his windows replaced, his house repainted and food provided every week.
The 95-year-old was touched by all that they had done. He was so moved that tears welled up his eyes. He just couldn't believe what had happened because all these years he was living all by himself. He tried to solve every trouble himself. But now he knew he was not alone and if he needed help, the police would do everything they could to help him. What a difference a little bit of kindness can make!

LESSONS LEARNED OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Mr. Gray was my history teacher in tenth grade. I couldn't tell what kind of history he taught for two reasons: one, I never liked history, and two, my body was in class, but my mind wasn't. Mr. Gray wasn't the teacher who offered retakes (补考) on tests; he did so much more for me than that. He offered me a pair of ears and a shoulder to cry on.
Before Mr. Gray came along, one major event was taking place in my life. My mom told me she wanted to divorce my dad. Why then I didn't understand. I barricaded (筑起壁垒) myself in my basement bedroom, listening to angry music and sleeping. I fell into a depression and my grades were falling. Then there was Mr. Gray.
I sat against a brick wall outside the library, knees pulled into my chest, head down, surrounded by my noisy friends that I was slowly distancing myself from, when I heard his voice: "Ever feel like you're a fire hydrant (消防栓) and every dog in the neighborhood is stopping by to visit you?" I picked my head up and then I saw Mr. Gray.
I had heard him use this line in the classroom a few times before, when it looked like a kid was having a bad day. It usually aroused a laugh and ended there. This time was different though— he was waiting for an answer. Next thing I knew I was following him into the library.
We sat amongst the shelves of the mostly empty library for the rest of lunchtime. I don't remember much about that first conversation other than the unconditional promise he made me of lending a pair of ears and a shoulder to cry on. What made him such a special teacher was that he saw that I was struggling and reached out to me outside of the classroom.

Paragraph 1:
However, that didn't change our classroom relationship.
Paragraph 2:
Many lunchtime library conversations followed throughout the school year.
【答案】 However, that didn't change our classroom relationship. Every time he noticed my mind was wandering. He would call on me. Wearing the stern look with the same expectations and trying to draw my attention back to class. Unsurprisingly. I still distanced myself from classmates; I still didn't know the answers more than half the time. But I think he knew that I was at a crossroads in my life and that my history grade didn't matter much compared to everything else that was going on. Apparently, my problem needed to be addressed first outside the classroom and then in class.
More lunchtime library conversations followed throughout the school year: They always made me feel freer and although I still struggled, I didn't feel trapped like before. Mr. Gray presented me with an outlet for my pain and frustration: he was always there unconditionally, offering me a pair of ears and a shoulder to cry on. His presence and life wisdom enabled me to become less defensive and open up more. Gradually, the hours spent amongst the library shelves became my favorite time to take his "class". Little as I remembered about what he taught in the history class, the lessons learned outside the classroom would never fade away.
