My grandmother grew up in a world different from me. She experienced many things in her
long life.
Though she never told stories, her stories were in the way she ate — she savored (品味) her
food, cherished (珍惜) it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave.
Food had been really scarce (缺乏) when she grew up.
Her stories were in the way she handed me lucky money. From a young age, my grandmother
was brought up to understand the importance of hard work and the necessary of saving. Every
Chinese New Year, I would be handed, or sent, a small red envelope that contained money, but
never more than twenty dollars. When I was young , I didn’t understand why my grandmother gave
me such a small amount of money. As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about
money, but about tradition and hard work and family. The money was insignificant. I would
probably spend it on any toy that I would lose soon after; it was the meaning behind her gift that
mattered. It was her saying, “I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your
family has before you.”
My grandmother’s stories were lessons. But they were never told in words. From the time that
I was very young, up until she could barely remember my name, I remember her calling me “good
girl”.Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was
still so young, with still so far to go.
Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and
in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies(遗产)that I will create. And I know
she would be proud.
24. The Author’s grandmother spent so much time eating at the table because ________.
A. she had no teeth B. she had nothing to do
C. she was preparing to clear the table D. she really wanted to enjoy the food
25. What did the author learn from the way her grandmother gave her lucky money

B. She needed to continually improve herself.
C. She should be proud of her manners and behaviors.

The corona-virus has quickened the change to pedal power in Europe. The German Cycling
Association (ADFC) reports that Germans across the country are spending twice as much time

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary (周年纪念日 ) of the birth of the
modern environmental movement in 1970.It gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness(意
识)about the state of our planet. The founder was Gaylord Nelson.
What moved Gaylord Nelson to action was the 1969 massive oil spill(溢出)in California, the
largest oil spill in the United States at that time. The spill proved to be an environmental nightmare
as it had a strong impact on marine life, killing an estimated 3,500 sea birds, as well as marine
animals such as dolphins, elephant seals and sea lions. Inspired by the student antiwar movement at
that period of time, Nelson found it was a right time to channel the energy of the students towards a
fight for environmental protection. He decided that it was time to educate the Americans on the
need to protect the environment. Thus, Earth Day was born in 1970, and public environmental
consciousness took centre stage.
On 22nd April 1970, millions of Americans went to the streets to demonstrate(游行 ) for a
healthy, sustainable environment and thousands of students marched in protest of the terrible
situation of the environment. Businesses were forced to follow environmental standards if they
wanted to continue their operations. The year 1990 saw Earth Day reach out to many more
countries around the world. It helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summi(t 峰会)
in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together many nations, for a joint effort towards protecting the
environment. In 2009,the United Nations decided to officially set April 22 as Earth Day.
For his role as founder of Earth Day, Gaylord Nelson was awarded the Presidential Medal of

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写词
数应为 150左右。
Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for
the end of the pool.
The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational(娱乐的,消遣的), while the competitive
swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish
what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out
Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified, I was hired on the
spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they
went down the slide, those sorts of things. I can do more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway
through, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks really easy for you. Why aren't you applying to
become a guard "
“The thought hadn't crossed my mind."
“Well, life guarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per
hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certificate.(结业证书)”
Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me-You never know what you can do until you force
yourself to do it.
Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid(急救), CPR(心肺复苏), and
procedures for different land and water-based emergencies(突发,紧急情况).
Work started soon. A well- intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went
by without accident; There were few emergencies . The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired
seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another usual day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to
exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para 1
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself.

Para 2
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.

【原文】W: Welcome to the museum. Before we go, let me just give you a taste of what we have here.Well, for
one thing, we have a fine collection of the twentieth and twenty-first century paintings, many by very well-known
artists. I’m sure you’ll recognize several of the paintings. This is the gallery that attracts the largest number of
visitors, so it’s best to go in early in the day, before the crowds arrive.
Then there are the nineteenth-century paintings and sculptures. The museum was opened in the middle of that
century, and several of the artists each donated one work.
Then there’s the collection of coins. Most of them were discovered by farmers digging their gardens, and donated
to the museum!
And our clay and glass were left to the museum by its founder. And in the terms of his will, we’re not allowed to
add anything to that collection: he believed it was perfect in itself, and we don’t see any reason to disagree!

As an English learner myself, I believe that English is not only a language, but also a tool for communication
and a key to global opportunities.
However, learning English can be a challenging task. I remember struggling with grammar rules, unfamiliar
vocabulary, and pronunciation. At times, I felt discouraged and unmotivated to continue. But, I did not give up.
Instead, I sought out different methods to improve my skills and overcome these obstacles.
One of the creative ways I find effective is to watch English movies and TV shows. This not only helps me
learn new vocabulary and idioms, but also practice my listening and comprehension skills.
By finding creative ways to learn and consistently practicing, we can overcome the difficulties and unlock the
opportunities that this language has to offer.
Thank you for listening.

读后续写
【答案】 “Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. Sure enough, with a closer look,
I found the boy waving his hands desperately. I quickly dived into the water, swimming towards the boy at full
speed. By the time I reached him, he had sunk to the bottom of the pool, his head hanging down, which filled my
heart with fright and concern. I picked the boy up and headed to the poolside, keeping his head above the water.
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck. I could tell that he had no
heartbeat and wasn’t breathing. Every second counted! Without hesitation, I did first aid, giving him
mouth-to-mouth breathing and doing CPR as trained. Other guards watching anxiously, I carried on, sweating.
Suddenly, a stream of water burst out of his mouth and the boy coughed intensely. Seeing the boy regain
consciousness, those around broke into cheers. Exhausted, I sighed with relief. I thought had I accepted that easy
position, I would have been nothing but a bystander. I’m happy I didn’t take the easy way out.
