How would you feel if you received a large amount of money all at once
That’s exactly what happened to Nkosikho Mbele, a worker at a gas station in South Africa. His sudden luck was brought about by an act of kindness he did for a young woman—Monet, a company manager.
One day, Monet stopped at the gas station to refuel(加油). But when Nkosikho was about to serve her, she realized she didn’t have any money or cards on her. She immediately tried to stop him. Knowing about her trouble, Nkosikho decided to pay her gas bill of about RMB100($7) to make sure that she could travel across the highway with enough gas.
“Madam. I’ll pay for you so that you won’t run out of gas on the road. Whenever you are near here again, you can just give me back the money, ” Nkosikho said. As for him, RMB100 was almost all he made in a day. He had to support a big family. He needed the money very much. He wasn’t even sure if Monet would come back to return his money, but he still volunteered to help her.
Several days later, Monet came back with his money and a box of chocolate. She was so thankful that she also posted their story on the Internet. Great changes took place. Nkosikho became famous in his town. Many people were moved by his act and offered to raise money for him. Nkosikho received around 24, 000, as much as about his salary(薪水)of eight years. His boss also heard of his kind act and he decided to give him a rise in salary.

My friend’s eight-year-old daughter, Mary, used to stay with her grandparents in the countryside. Recently her parents brought her to town to live with them. Wild and uneducated, Mary would use rude or dirty words when she was angry. Sometimes she rolled(打滚)on the ground, which shocked all people around. Mary’s parents tried to tame(驯服)her by beating and kicking, but it didn’t work. Finally they became completely disappointed with her.
One day their next-door neighbor, a woman teacher, gave Mary a beautiful snow-white dress. It caught Mary’s eyes right away and made them shine brightly.
Mary put on the dress and became quite another person. She no longer abused(骂人)or hit others. She didn’t roll on the floor, either. She knew that running wildly was not suitable for a girl in such a beautiful dress.
Since then, Mary has changed a lot. And now she is gentle, tidy and lovely. Her parents are quite satisfied with her.

Du Fu (712—770), one of the greatest poets in China, was born in Gongyi, Henan Province. He is familiar to most of us. However, Du has remained largely unknown in the Western world.
The BBC’s documentary Du Fu: China’s Greatest Poet introduces the great poet. As the first English-language documentary about Du, it lasts for an hour and it compares him to Dante and Shakespeare, two of the greatest masters of literature(文学) of the West.
The documentary explains why Du’s works have been popular for centuries. “Chinese people really value the recording of history and Du is better than anyone at reflecting history in his poetry. Because historical events are mirrored in his own life and spiritual journey.” said Zeng Xiangbo, a professor at Renmin University of China.
Du lived under the rule of the Tang Emperor Xuanzong (712—756) and he was a civil servant (文职人员) in the Tang court (朝廷). But as the An Lashan Rebellion of 755 floored the empire, he took his family on the road as refugees (难民), and had to stand hunger and poverty (贫穷). Through ups and downs, the poet never stopped writing, pouring out his concern for his country and people, as well as celebrating the simple joys of life. Known as China’s “saint of poetry”, he wrote about 1,500 poems that are still with us today.
