Bob enjoys breakfasts of caviar, swims in his own saltwater pool and receives foot massages on the beach. A comfortable life, perhaps, but you could say he deserves it: Bob serves as an ambassador for conservation(保护大使). Bob,you see,is a flamingo(火烈鸟).
Odette Doest rescued Bob in 2016,after the bird crashed into a window in Curacao and hurt his left wing. While taking care of the bird at her wildlife sanctuary(庇护所),Doest discovered that Bob previously had been trained by people: He felt at ease with people, but he suffered from bumblefoot. The foot disease would have weakened his ability to catch food in the wild.
For those reasons, Doest decided to keep him as an educational animal at her sanctuary, alongside 90 other animals. When Doest began taking Bob on her foundation's weekly visits to schools on the island, the flamingo became famous instantly.
“Bob is like the hot item-everyone likes Bob,”Doest says. That's because most people have never seen such an elegant colorful bird up close.“Just don't try to take a Bobselfie. That's not what Bob is about,” Doest says firmly.“I have Bob for students to think about nature and the environment, and how a slight change in their habits can have a big effect on nature around us.”
That could mean choosing reusable cups instead of plastic bottles or skipping the balloons at a birthday party or picking up rubbish on the beach--all things Doest says children take to heart because they're so dazzled by Bob. Many of Doest's rescued birds were caught in fishing lines. In her talks, she stressed the environmental threat caused by fishing lines, along with plastic pollution.
24.What can we learn about Bob's life
A.It is strange and meaningless. B.It is relaxing and meaningful.
C.It is difficult but exciting. D.It is hard but interesting.
25.What happened to Bob before he got hurt
A.He was often beaten by people.
B.His left wing was badly broken.
C.There was something wrong with his foot.
D.He often got lost while looking for food in the wild.
26.Why does Doest like to bring Bob to schools
A.To take photos with the students.
B.To teach students how to raise flamingos.
C.To make herself well-known on the island.
D.To educate students about environmental protection.
27.What does the underlined word “dazzled” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Attracted. B.Disappointed. C.Upset. D.Challenged

When everything is going wrong, there's nothing like listening to a few bars of your favorite sad song. But why do we find pleasure in sad music This puzzled two researchers at the Freie Universit t Berlin in Germany who set out to explore our strong feeling for sad songs in a world where entire industries exist to help us remove sadness from our lives.
Their study — based on a survey of more than 770 people around the world and published this month in the journal, PLOS ONE — discovered sad music can create positive emotions, like peacefulness and kindness, and that choosing the tearful ballad on your music player offers three benefits.
The biggest turned out to be that sad songs allow you to feel sadness without any of its “real-life contexts.” In other words, you can safely explore what it's like to be a little blue without experiencing the great pain of losing a loved one, for example.
“Emotion control” was another important benefit. Many of those surveyed said that when they were in a bad mood (情绪), experiencing sadness through music made them feel better afterwards and provided an emotional improvement. That may be because the songs help them to express and let go of their emotions, researchers noted. “Sad music promotes and creates a space for reflection and reexamination of personal experiences, thoughts and feelings,” one of the researchers added
The benefit of “empathy” (同理心) made the listener feel good by allowing him to share the sadness of another human being through the song. When we're having social problems, like when we're feeling lonely, homesick or missing someone, the sad songs can offer comfort by showing someone else shares our state of mind, the study found.
So it turns out that Elton John was right: Sad songs do say so much.
28. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. When things go wrong. B. What to explore in sad songs.
C. Why sad music brings us joy. D. How to remove sadness from life.
29. Which of the following best describes the findings of the study
A. Benefits of sad music. B. Strong feelings in sad music.
C. Real-life contexts of sad music. D. Empathetic comforts from sad music.
30. How does sad music achieve "Emotion control"
A. By freeing us from bad moods. B. By bringing great pain to us.
C. By helping us reflect on exams. D. By providing a space for us.
31. Why is Elton John mentioned at the end of the passage
A. To prove Elton John was right. B. To show Elton John wrote songs.
C. To make the readers think deeply. D. To stress the point of the passage.

Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), people all over the world are wearing masks to reduce the risk of infection. It’s a very simple but incredibly effective method to protect oneself from a variety of harmful things. In fact, masks have been helping mankind for centuries. Let’s take a look at some mask-related history.
1st century
In that era, many people in Roman Empire worked underground in mines to support their families. But most of them suffered from and even eventually died of respiratory (呼吸的) illnesses. To address this problem, Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD), a Roman philosopher and naturalist, recommended the use of animal bladder (膀胱) skins to stop dust from being inhaled (吸入). Although primitive, his idea was considered the very first recorded mask invention.
16th century
Early inventions did not stop with Pliny. Many centuries later, Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), proposed using a woven cloth dipped in water over the face to protect against the toxic (有毒的) chemicals.
19th century
The design of the mask took a big step forward in the 19th century.
In 1848, American Lewis Hassley became the first person to patent (注册专利) a protective mask for miners, which was a milestone in face mask history. Masks at this stage were similar to gas masks. Later, in 1897, Polish-Austrian doctor Johann von Mikulicz-Radecki designed a simple mask composed of one layer of gauze (纱布), recommending medical workers to wear it to prevent infection. That was the first recorded use of a surgical mask.
20th century
In 1910, an epidemic broke out in Northeast China. Chinese doctor Wu Liande designed a cheap face mask called “Wu’s mask”. Made of two layers of surgical gauze, it could be wrapped around the back of the head and tied in a knot. This mask was praised by experts around the world, as it was simple to manufacture (制作) and had a low production cost.
Modern exploration
With several outbreaks of infectious diseases and the flu, and the rise of pollution caused by industrial waste, the materials in masks have continued to evolve(进化) to better protect its wearer. For example, in 2012 when China suffered from smog, mask models such as N95 and KN90, which can filter out this fine particulate (微粒) matter, became highly popular. In the future, masks will continue to improve, hopefully so will the habits of humans.(选自Newyork Times)

Time went by...The little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree every day.

I need money to buy them.” “Sorry, but I don’t have money...but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So you will have money.” The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy never came back after he picked the apples. The tree was sad.

The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy never came back since then. The tree was lonely and sad again.
One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said. “I am sad and getting tired. I want to go sailing to relax myself. 29推理判断题。根据第二段“Their study — based on a survey of more than 770 people around the world and published this month in the journal, PLOS ONE — discovered sad music can create positive emotions, like peacefulness and kindness, and that choosing the tearful ballad on your music player offers three benefits.(他们的研究基于对全世界770多人的调查,并于本月发表在PLOS ONE杂志上。研究发现,悲伤的音乐可以产生积极的情绪,比如平静和善良,在音乐播放器上选择伤感的民谣有三个好处)”可知,这项研究发现了伤感音乐的三个好处。故选A。
30推理判断题。根据第四段第三句“That may be because the songs help them to express and let go of their emotions(这可能是因为歌曲帮助他们表达和释放自己的情绪)”可知,悲伤的音乐让人们摆脱了坏情绪。故选A。
31推理判断题。根据最后一句“So it turns out that Elton John was right: Sad songs do say so much.(所以事实证明Elton John是对的:悲伤的歌曲确实包含很多东西)”可知,结尾重申了伤感音乐的好处,强调了文章的重点。故选D。
D篇 32. B。由文章1st century部分内容可知,早期矿工大部分人都会受呼吸道疾病的困扰或因此而死亡。为了解决这个问题,Pliny the Elder推荐用兽皮来过滤灰尘。

M: Hello, everyone. Welcome to our program. Today, we’re going to talk about reading. Do you like reading Reading habits look different around the world. In India, the average person spends 10 hours and 42 minutes on reading per week—which is five hours more than the average person spends in the US. What people choose to read also varies depending on their geographic locations. American readers prefer the classics to other popular types. Scary books possess the first place in Mexico and Argentina and love stories win over readers in Brazil. In Latin America, horror and romance are the most popular sorts. Fantasy is another popular type read around the world, coming out on top in Italy, Germany and Poland. Indian readers, who have the biggest desire of reading in the world, prefer poetry over the other types. No matter what your choice is, reading is a great way to enjoy traveling without leaving home.
