When I was a teenager, I knew nothing about mental health. If you talked about "safe space", I'd think that you meant a bank. What's more, I didn't care about mental health. Why would I As Dad used to say, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it!"
But unfortunately my mental health did "break". I was diagnosed (诊断) as a seriously clinical anorexic (厌食症患者) at age 23. I had immediate treatment in hospital, which lasted two and a half years. People always wonder what helped me recover and the key was simple: comedy.
I'm a professional stand-up comic. Comedy began as my hobby and has progressed into a job. The word "comedy" is believed to come from the ancient Greek Kōmos meaning "to reveal", whose job is to reveal, explain and understand things. This was something I turned to when I was in recovery from anorexia. I'd never been able to explain what was going on inside my head. Trying to explain what's going on in your mind is like trying to explain a color to someone who's blind. So humour became a way of understanding things and then a way of explaining them.
Dr Dieter Declercq, Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of Kent, believes "Humour can change our opinions in a difficult situation." However, he adds carefully that "We should avoid judgments like all humour is good for you." In his new book Satire, Comedy and Mental Health, he looks at how comedy can be used as a mental health method. He notes that, enjoyed with others, it is important for good mental health and recovery.
Stand-up comedy was important to my recovery. I know I'm not alone in that. So I want to pay that forward and show other people their mental health doesn't have to be "broken" before they can "fix it".

B. She will improve her physical health as well.
C. She will introduce her experience to others.
D. She will help others test their mental health.

With more and more kids picking up bats and gloves, efforts to build a "baseball ecosystem" in China continue to produce impressive results. And with Major League Baseball (MLB) a key contributor to the drive, Chinese kids are learning from the very best in the business.
"The baseball environment has changed greatly since MLB entered the Chinese market. When we first came to China in 2007, the baseball population in the country was very limited." said Tony Qi, managing director of MLB China. "But in 2019, the active baseball population had reached over 20 million. When we first organized the youth baseball match in five Chinese cities in 2008, each city had only one age-group to take part. But this year we have 20 cities, and in some cities we have competitions for five age groups."

During one recent season in Beijing, there were about 100 teams that wanted to take part in the MLB Cup. So, MLB, the Chinese Baseball Association and local baseball organizations are all working together for a brighter Chinese baseball future.
Audiences have also been attracted by the 2020 documentary Tough Out, which tells the lives of a group of Chinese teenagers whose lives are changed through baseball. "In the documentary, the kids build a new home in their baseball team, together with their coaches in a Beijing suburb," said Qi. "The notion (观念) of home is very important in baseball culture. Through baseball, these kids gained home, friendship and confidence. They also gained the courage to fight against the hard situations they found themselves in. We're planning to produce more content like this to make baseball culture popular."

Roughly 8.5 billion plastic straws are used in the United Kingdom each year, but as a new ban took effect, that number will decrease to zero. One company is hoping to corner the market in alternative (可供替代的) straws using an unlikely material:pasta.
"It has all the function of a plastic straw that everyone has been using," says Maxim Gelmann, the founder of Stroodles, the company. The straws, made by an Italian company that also produces regular pasta, are the same shape and size as a standard plastic straw.
Unlike a paper straw, they don t taste like wet paper;they don t change the flavor of the drink. They last at least an hour, and longer in colder drinks. If you're nursing a drink for hours and the pasta straw eventually softens, you can choose to eat it. The raw straw is also eatable, and Gelmann says that some people snack on them.
A handful of other pasta-straw companies also exist, though Stroodles is hoping to differentiate itself with a smoother, more plastic-like material and its branding.
It s more expensive to make than a plastic straw, but in mass production, it can compete with the cost of paper straws.Because of the ban, "No one really compares us with plastic anymore, "Gelmann says. "They compare us with paper straws' prices, which makes my argument much easier and our future brighter."
Other alternatives, like bamboo or stainless steel (不锈钢), are more expensive and a less elegant solution; some bars say that customers don t trust the idea that stainless steel straws can be fully sanitized (消毒). Another option—a plastic-like eatable straw made from seaweed—may be more of a competitor.
12. What s the company s main purpose of producing the pasta straws
A. To occupy the market. B. To reduce plastic pollution.
C. To answer the call for the ban. D. To promote the sale of pasta.
13. What disadvantage do paper straws have compared with pasta straws
A. They are easily broken. B. They affect drinks' taste.
C. They last a very short time. D. They are not very clean.
14. What s Gelmann s attitude towards the pasta straws future
A. Uncertain. B. Doubtful. C. Curious. D. Positive.
15. What s the best title for the text
A. Plastic straw alternative: one made from pasta.
B. Pasta straws will bring great profits in the future.
C. Which is better: pasta straws or paper straws
D. Why are pasta straws welcomed by customers
