Long before social distancing, Greg Dailey was already keeping his customers at arm's length. In fact, to those on his paper route (路线) in central New Jersey, Greg has never been anything more than a shape past their driveway. But all that changed when one elderly customer asked him a simple favor: Could he please pull in and throw the paper closer to the garage
"If she can't get the paper at the sidewalk, which is 20 feet from the house, during the-COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), how is she going to get the things she needs " Greg said. "So a couple days later I just decided, you know what, I'm going to put this note out." The note, stuck in the next day's edition, said "My name is Greg Dailey and I deliver your newspaper every morning"—which was news to most people—"I would like to offer my services—free of charge—to anyone who needs groceries (食品杂货)."
From that moment, the phone has been ringing off the hook. He takes the orders, does the shopping, and delivers the groceries—not by throwing them out the window, but by carefully placing them on the porch.
So far, he's delivered to nearly 100 senior citizens on his route, and some not on his route. If Greg hears about a person who is elderly or disabled, he will be there. Eileen Stein, 85, said: "I don't have enough adjectives. He is one of the finest people in the world." Another went even further, and called him the closest thing to bravery and kindness.
Greg says he might not necessarily stop when the pandemic is over. "There's something about being able to do something really nice for people," Greg said. Greg didn't do volunteer work before—actually, he didn't do his own grocery shopping before. He's just a guy called on to do it by chance—who will now stay in service by choice.

A. Being familiar with his customers.
B. Being fond of his paper delivery job.

C. To do grocers a favor.
D. To help customers get necessities easily.

7. What can we infer about Greg from the last paragraph
A. He will start his own grocery store.
B. He used to take part in volunteer work.
C. He developed more newspaper delivery routes.
D. He will continue his services after the pandemic.

After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room is equipped with a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. There's no shower or washbasin.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate a shared gym room by a smartphone application, reserve a room ahead of time and then need to scan (扫描) a QR code to unlock the door. A refundable deposit (押金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan, Yicai Global reports. The idea of the shared fitness experience is not entirely nascent. Last December, the Shanghai-based technology company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident investors are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China's sharing economy will see yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country's GDP.
8. What makes the shared gym room special
A. Offering open spaces. B. Standing in the living zone.
C. Holding one person at a time. D. Having some advanced equipment.
9. What do people need to do to use the shared gym room
A. Book in advance. B. Pay 100 yuan first.
C. Scan a QR code to register. D. Share a smartphone application.
10. What does the underlined word "nascent" in paragraph 5 mean
A. Simple. B. Popular. C. Satisfying. D. New.
11. What is the author's purpose of writing the text
A. To introduce shared gym rooms.
B. To advertise a technology company.
C. To support the shared gym rooms.
D. To promote the sharing economy.

The icy waters surrounding Antarctica have long been called the Southern Ocean by scientists. However, it never received the official recognition it deserved—until now. On World Oceans Day, the National Geographic Society announced that from now on, there would be five oceans: the Atlantic, the Pacific, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.
The new ocean will include most of the waters around Antarctica out to 60 degrees south latitude (纬度). Unlike the other oceans, which are divided by the surrounding continents (洲) the extent of the Southern Ocean is determined by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC)—the Earth's longest and strongest oceanic current (洋流).
The ACC encircling Antarctica and flowing from the west to the east was set 34 million years ago when Antarctica broke off from South America, which enables the water to freely flow around Earth's southernmost tip. Its water is colder and less salty than the ocean waters to the north and provides a unique habitat for thousands of species, including whales, penguins, and seals.
National Geographic Society's map policy committee had been considering making the change for many years. However, it is on June 8, 2021 that it recognized the Southern Ocean as the world's fifth ocean. "Our maps are updated. The Southern Ocean is treated the same as the traditional four, and the next quiz question about the number of oceans has an updated official answer from National Geographic Society—five!" the officials declared.
Alex Tait, a National Geographic Society geographer, says that the change draws public attention to protecting the Southern Ocean's unique ocean ecosystem. Tait says the change will have an impact on how children using maps in school learn to see the world. "Students learn information about the ocean world through what oceans you're studying. If you don't include the Southern Ocean then you don't learn the specifics of it and how important it is," he says.
12. How is the Southern Ocean separated
A. By surrounding lands.
B. By an oceanic current.
C. By the habitat for unique species.
D. By 60 degrees south latitude.
13. What can we know about the ACC
A. It keeps flowing in circles. B. It belongs to South America.
C. It broke off from Antarctica. D. It moves freely to the north.
14. What does Alex Tait think of "the change"
A. It will attract people to ocean exploration.
B. It will contribute to the ocean protection.
C. It will help scientists research the ocean system.
D. It will make the Southern Ocean more habitable.
15. What might be the best title for the text
A. The Antarctic Waters Need Attention
B. The Earth Now Officially Has Five Oceans
C. The Feature of the Southern Ocean Is Amazing
D. The World Map Needs Updating All the Time

We often take for granted (对……不予重视) the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom. Kind and caring, she always seemed to make people comfortable in her presence. For years she was a volunteer in our community. I loved going to the local nursing home to help her until I hit my teenage years. Suddenly, I was too caught up in my teenage world to worry about helping others.
One particular summer day when I was twelve, my mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car. I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything Finally, I made my way outside. I imagined the lake water cooling my skin. Annoyed, I climbed into the car and shut the door. I sat in silence, too upset to make a conversation. "Tasha, would you like to know where we are going " Mom asked calmly.
"I guess..." I murmured under my breath.
"Sweetheart, we are going to a children's shelter. I have been there before and I think it would benefit you," she explained.
I felt a knot slowly form in my stomach. How was I supposed to help there
When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. It was a large white Victorian home. As we approached the large front hall, wind bells sounded peaceful while trees and flowers welcomed us. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.
My mom rang the doorbell. The door flew open and we were led to the front room, where all of the children were playing. Toys were spread out across the floor. I noticed a baby whose body was scarred with wounds. The majority of the children had noticeable physical scars such as cuts. What a terrible life they had had before they moved here! My heart sank.
Paragraph 1:
As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt.

Paragraph 2:
I returned to the shelter with my mom several times.
