I was excited to take my rescue Beagle (比格犬) to the river the other day, as it's within walking distance of our new home. Having spent her first six years in a cage, Georgie had never seen a body of water, and I wanted to get there before sunset to watch her experience it.
I was growing increasingly impatient about all the stops her little Beagle nose required. She inspected the grass, dirt, and trees, and licked (舔) whatever was stuck to the road. These were all new discoveries for her, and she took her time studying them.
When I accepted that it was fruitless to hurry her along, I whipped out my cell phone and began texting. I thought that I needed something to do while Georgie was slowing us down. Then, for some reason, I heard the cicadas (蝉), and I remembered that the sound of cicadas is my favorite sound in the world. That awakened something buried within me that longed for the simple pleasures that had been replaced by technology.
I made a conscious decision to be present, and to enjoy the journey to the river Just like Georgie. Now, I admired the flowers and the winding ivy on our path. I smelled the grass and the flowers, and the dirt and the air. I treasured each one equally, as if discovering them for the first time.
As we neared our destination, I realized something even more important: It didn't matter if we even reached the river. Why must there always be a destination Georgie had no idea that we had a destination. She was present for the journey, and she savored every bit of that sweet experience. One of the most popular street food found in China is no doubt the barbecue (烧烤). A new series, called Chinese Barbecue, tells the story of this popular food cooked over hot coals on just about every street corner in cities and towns across the country. Barbecued meat is an important part of people's nightlife.
Shown on June 20, the series has had more than 80 million clicks on the video site . To find the most popular barbecue stalls (摊位), the production team travelled to more than 500 locations in 30 cities across the country. Some viewers compare Chinese Barbecue to Midnight Diner, a Japanese TV series telling stories from late-night informal Japanese bars.
"I'm happy to hear this comparison because Midnight Diner is a good program, and we share the same topic—night food," Chinese Barbecue's director Chen Yingjie said. "However, in terms of the tone, they are quite different." He said that Midnight Diner focused more on food itself, though there was some conversation while people were eating. In contrast, the night food scene of Chinese people means joy and a more lively spirit. People eating these barbecue snacks develop a feeling of connection, which can be a cure for loneliness.
The barbecue, regarded as the most ordinary and common night street snack, is different from home-made food by mothers as that is a symbol of family and kinship. The barbecue is where you go to become connected to people in society. And unlike official business lunches, during which people are rather reserved and polite, the barbecue lets people relax with old friends and new friends, leaving a lasting impression of friendship.
The world, as a whole, holds deep-rooted good feelings toward the barbecue, either for the taste or the warmth produced by fire. "What we should do is to present the Chinese barbecue just the way it is because with its special ingredients (食材) ways of cooking, and more importantly, the special environment and people, the world will recognize it and might fall in love with it just as we do," said Chen.

B. It plays a role in people's relationship.

C. To show the feature of Chinese food.
D. To introduce the history of the barbecue.

The world's first-ever floating(浮动的) farm is expected to open soon. The farm is located in Rotterdam, a port city about 50 miles away from Amsterdam. Built near the mouth of the river Meuse, the farm consists of three levels.
About 40 cows will be moved to the second level of the farm in November. The level above them will house greenhouses that grow grass and crops needed to feed the cows. Meanwhile, the bottom level will hold any necessary machines and packaging for the milk and yogurt. By December, the farm is expected to be producing more than 200 gallons of milk per day.
In addition to producing fresh milk and yogurt, the farm produces and sells fresh food that runs through a closed cycle and ends up at the customer. This causes almost no waste, bringing the reduction of food's travel from production to consumers.
The farm is the idea of Minke van Wingerden, a partner in the development company behind the project, Beladon. In 2012, she and her husband got caught in Hurricane Sandy during a business trip to New York City. With the storm preventing food delivery trucks from getting on the road, local people were unable to find fresh produce in stores.
The event pushed Wingerden and her partners to find a way to produce food closer to people's locations in order to avoid losses of supplies in the future. They eventually came up with the idea of floating farms, which would make use of otherwise unused space in the water and meanwhile shorten the distance between stores and farms.
After launching the Rotterdam project, Beladon will work on opening more floating farms. The company is designing floating chicken farms and floating vertical(垂直的) farming greenhouse. The company is in talks with another Dutch city for a second farm.
Wingerden and her husband also believe that new communities should be built with food access in mind. The area by the Port of Rotterdam, for example, is on track to be filled with residential space and offices in the next several years, and Wingerden said food production should be at "the heart of that community".
12. What do we know about the floating farm from the text
A. It is a farm without any grass or plants.
B. It can produce more milk than expected.
C. It has three levels with different purposes.
D. It is planned to be used in certain climates.
13. What is the advantage of the floating farm
A. It offers custom-made food.
B. It cuts the cost of shipping.
C. It plays a role in recycling wastes.
D. It acts as a shelter in a hurricane.
14. How did Minke van Wingerden get the idea of the floating farm
A. With the help of the scientists.
B. Through her personal experience.
C. By getting encouraged by the news.
D. By making research on the technology.
15. What can we infer about the floating farm from Wingerden's words
A. It makes it easier for people to get food.
B. It saves more residential and working space.
C. It helps people learn about food production.
D. It improves the attraction of new communities.

Randy Heiss was hiking in the large expanse of land behind his farm in Patagonia, Arizona, a town near the border between the US and Mexico when he came across a curious site. A bright spot of red that was once a balloon was caught in the grass and to it, attached by a piece of string (细绳) was a note.
On the top was written just one word—Dayami—while inside, was a numbered list of things in Spanish. Even though he could not read Spanish, 60-year-old Randy smiled. Decades ago, as a child, he too used to do the same.
It was a list of birthday gifts she longed for. Randy lost his only son nine years ago. He wouldn't have grandchildren in the future, so he hoped he could do more for Dayami, like his granddaughter. He reasoned that the balloon had been sent from the nearest city across the border, Nogales, but there was still a problem even if his assumption was right—Nogales has a population of a quarter million people. How could he possibly continue from here
He tried the Internet hoping to see if anyone would respond to his post but drew a blank there. With Dayami's birthday drawing near and time running out, Randy then got in touch with the local radio station in Nogales, Mexico, Radio XENY. Really wanting to help after hearing about his need, the radio station played the scenario (方案) out on air and within 24 hours, called Randy back.
With the radio station setting the time for the two to meet the next morning, Randy took the day off from work and rushed to the local Walmart. With the help of his wife, he translated the items on the list—clothes, art supplies, a doll and doll set—and bought everything they could find and a few extra stuff as well after finding out that 8-year-old Dayami had a 4-year-old sister.
Paragraph 1:
The couple packaged all the gifts.

2. 考查动词的时态。根据时间状语“during the 18th century”可知,此处描述过去发生的动作,应用一般过去时。故填reached。
3. 考查名词。根据句意及空前的of可知,此处应用名词作宾语,故填beauty。
4. 考查介词。be in good condition意为“处于良好的状态”,为固定搭配。故填in。
故填is divided。
9. 考查副词。空处修饰形容词elegant,应用副词。故填extremely。
10. 考查连词。句意:苏州园林极其优雅,是一场感官的盛宴,既用作旅游景点,也用作住宅。both...and...表示“两者都……”,为固定用法。故填and。
