Unit 8 Have you read Treasure Island yet
(Section A 1a-1c)
Level: 8th Grade
Objectives:
To introduce and practice vocabulary related to books and reading.
To develop reading and comprehension skills.
To practice asking and answering questions using the present perfect tense.
Materials:
Textbook: "New Target 8" by People's Education Press.
Handout with comprehension questions.
Whiteboard and markers.
Pictures of different types of books.
Warm-up:
Start the class by asking students what their favorite book is and why. Allow a few students to share their answers.
Presentation:
Write "Have you read Treasure Island yet " on the board and ask students what they think the sentence means.
Introduce the vocabulary related to books and reading, such as read, book, author, chapter, plot, character, etc. Use pictures and examples to help students understand the meaning of each word.
Model the present perfect tense using the sentence "I have read Treasure Island." Ask students to repeat the sentence and explain its meaning.
Practice:
Distribute the handout with comprehension questions and ask students to read the text in Section A 1a.
Have students answer the questions individually or in pairs.

For homework, ask students to:
Read a book of their choice in English and write a short summary of the book using the present perfect tense.
Practice asking and answering questions using the present perfect tense with a family member or friend. They can ask questions such as "Have you ever read a book by [author] " or "Have you read any good books recently " and answer using the present perfect tense.
Review the vocabulary words related to books and reading covered in class and try to use them in context throughout the week.
