Materials:
Whiteboard and markers
Pictures of mountains
Handouts with information on the world's highest mountains and discussion questions
Warm-up:
Show the students pictures of mountains and ask them to name any mountains they recognize.
Write some of their responses on the whiteboard.
Ask the students if they know which is the highest mountain in the world and where it is located.
Presentation:
Introduce the topic of the world's highest mountains.
Show the pictures of the world's highest mountains and their locations.
Ask the students to repeat the names of the mountains and their locations.
Practice:
Divide the class into pairs.
Distribute the handouts with information on the world's highest mountains and discussion questions to each pair.
Ask the students to read the information and discuss the questions with their partner.
Walk around the classroom and provide feedback and assistance as needed.
Production:
Ask each pair to share their answers with the class.
Write some of the interesting facts or information on the whiteboard.
Instruct the students to work in pairs again.
Ask each pair to choose a mountain from the list and imagine that they are planning to climb it.
Instruct them to create a dialogue between a mountaineer and a travel agent, discussing the logistics and planning of the climb.
